Islands

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 11:56 am

One thing i loved about morrowind was the little islands off the coast. I was alittle disapointed to not find them in oblivion. I'd love to have a little island off the coast of Skyrim with not much but mabe a small village or a single cabin to be my home. How do you all feel about this? It might be a small thing that would make me happy :)
Mabe even a mission to colonize an island would be pretty sweet.
or perhaps even hidden islands with rare items to find?

That would be really cool. I remember when I was playing Morrowind and I was on this island and I found this dungeon that was guarded by skeletons and they killed me as soon as they saw me

There were islands in Oblivion. Not off the coast in the ocean but why do there have to be islands if there is water in an area? The only reason there were so many islands in Morrowind because it was a giant volcanic island, of course there were going to be lesser islands.

Oh yeah! I acctully remember that one and the same thing happened to me, see its just hte little things like that. I also remember finding alittle island with a cabin on i think and thats what made me think of this thread. Owning a house on an island would just be awsome in my opinion.

You do have a point, but it would still be cool have islands though.

Well, there is a small/medium sized island who's name escapes me, that's in between Atmora and Skyrim. Maybe that can be explorable?

Wasn't the entire Imperial city on an island?

Roscrea :) I'm hoping for that to be featured in a DLC or expansion (although Atmora itself, or at least it's southern coast, would be nicer)

There will be glaciers I'm sure... but if there are any islands they'll be small as there aren't any islands near Skyrim that are large enough to be listed on any maps. Roscrea is there but that's too far away to fit in a single map, so hopefully they'll make it a DLC.

I too wish Cyrodiil had islands off it's coast... the mysterious unnamed island in the south of the province belongs to Black Marsh, and for some reason Bethesda didn't add the island of Stirk to the west, so we were left with no substantial islands to explore (with the obvious exception of the Imperial City).

I think just small islands you could run from side to side in a couple bounds would be fine just big enough for a house or something. Roscrea does sound interesting can someone tell me alittle bit of the lore on it? As a DLC could be cool, heck id pay for my little cabin island as dlc in a heart beat haha.

Can I ever comment on something without someone not understanding what I said. I said that volcanic areas typically have lots of islands. I never said that's the only way you can have islands. I was commenting on your assumption that islands must be along a body of water when in reality, that's not truth. Also, there were several islands in Oblivion, the imperial city, the mages guild island, the island where you have to do the Hunters run and so on. There were dozens of more non-memorable islands in Morrowind than in Oblivion. The fact is that Oblivion had some islands. Cyrodiil doesn't need to be dotted with islands to be real or interesting and neither does Skyrim. Some islands are probably going to show up but it is not going to be the same as Morrowind because once again, Morrowind was a volcanic island.

Im sorry for not understanding what you said then.

Just saying not asking for big islands just little ones like you'd find in the middle of a river delta of such.

Shivering isles was pretty cool, the island some people are mentioning seems like it could be fun like this.
These big islands to me are always fun to explore. It's like bit sized i know i can explore the whole thing haha.

Oh and for people who might care

Not to much info at all but it is pretty lore appropriate in my opinion and sounds like fun with the Sea of Ghoasts and whatnot ;)

That's all fine and dandy but I believe the OP wants islands off of the coast of the mainland, and we didn't get those in Oblivion. Yes, Oblivion had islands, you've made that clear, but they weren't the kinds of islands the OP is saying they want.

There are islands in the lakes/rivers. Check on the map. Not many, but they're there. Also seems to be ice/glacier islands up North.

Yeah, I don't see why there HAS to be islands off the coast of every land mass. Islands are islands. I'm not saying there shouldn't be but no one should question the integrity of realism if there aren't islands off the coast of a land mass (not saying the OP did question the realism, just saying in general) because that isn't the majority of the coast line of the world, most of the coastline of the world is islandless, at least significant islands.

Islands are one of those things that make a map interesting.

Yes, Id like to see some islands, in lakes and off the coast.
A little more than the islands in oblivion, there were only two quest related ones.
The imperial city doesnt really count.

On Morrowind the islands often had a tomb or other structure, Id like to see more of that.

The Dead lands were filled with Islands...Though I would like to see some islands in the game. Roscera would be a good idea I think, as long as it is done properly. I don't want one just to have one, I want one with quality...
