I have to spend a lot of time on the official garry's mod forums for level design reasons, and they have one of the worst moderating teams I've ever seen, makes here seem blissful in comparison.
It's easily the best community I've seen on the internet. Not hard admittedly, but it's still pretty good, so people to tend to stick around. There are people who are missed though.
Saurok, you're definitely an old member. i consider myself sort of old, not really. You are though. And yeah, some people can't handle politics and religion, but I think the mods should allow controlled, intelligent conversations about topics to go on as long as they don't spiral out of control.

I was actually just thinking about how the forums are a little quieter than they were last time I was here. There doesn't seem to be as much action in the CD as there used to be, which is surprising given the Skyrim announcement. Oh well,

I was here before they were banned. We're better off now.
I think the Skyrim announcement actually took away from CD. Given the fans here something about their favorite game series to talk about, you know?
That blows my mind, because there's not really anything to talk about in the Skyrim forum. It's just drooling over trailers (which is fair) and speculating. I don't know. Maybe its just me, but I can't stand forums for games before they're released. It seems that there isn't much substance. What does impress me about these forums, however, is the incredible dedication of the Morrowind and Oblivion forums, particularly the Morrowind forums. The game has been out for nearly a decade and there is still a good amount of people obsessing over it.
The reason I've stayed all of these years is because the community is overall quite mature and there are usually some interesting topics started in Community Discussion. Plus, I'm able to get information on any of the TES games all in once place.
What has it been now? I remember vividly the day I joined. Green everywhere back then. Hmm...freshman year, so that would make it a good 6 or 7 years ago. Heh. I keep it up and I'll have a full decade here.
But yeah, as for why I stay there's really no reason these days. Old habit that dies hard is all it is.
Actually no. I joined in 2000 under another username... but I think I made 5 posts before my username got purged when the forums changed layouts/software. So those two years don't count. 10 years on a forums. Ouch.

I stay because of the same reasons.
I come and go, I'm currently here a lot more than I used to be though. From like 06-09 I was seldom around, but now, unfortunately for all you people, I'm back.
I don't really consider the 08 group old. Anyone that came during of after Oblivion I do not consider old here. I was lurking around here shortly after oblivion. Anyway, yes this forum does tend to have people that stay a while longer. Maybe because of the size of the forum, it's not huge but not small. It's big enough for variety but still small enough to remember the members. As opposed to most big forums you might see one person and never hear from them again simply due to the size of it.

I would consider people before '04 'old'.
There also 'old' members on every forum which has lasted since 2000 or so. It's normal.
Now we're just discussing semantics.
It is true though, I don't feel too old relatively speaking unless I go outside of the CD to like the Skyrim section where everybody has a join date of yesterday it seems.
I'm actually approaching a decade here on these forums as well. My original account had a join date of sometime in 2001, but it was purged a long time ago. I didn't post much, mostly just lurked back then, I'm much more active now-a-days.
