Isn't war paint a bit lore breaking?

Post » Sun Jul 28, 2013 6:37 pm

I understand that war paint was added to customization in Skyrim so we'd have more options, but I don't think it literally is present in any culture aside from Nordic.

And you know, who have we ever seen wearing war paint in past games? Aside from these guys, of course. http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/dogate_EE-sineei07.jpg

But it is set in Skyrim.

"When in Rome..."

It's like wearing a cowboy hat visiting Texas. You may not wear it back home but there you just blend with the locals.

Dunmer have had a history of applying warpaint as do the nords, I'd also imagine warpainting is common for the Bosmeri tribes and even the orcish.

The only races I would imagine don't wear war paint in their own culture are the Altmer (obviously, it's far too uncivilized for them) and the beast races (also for obvious reasons, I could imagine painting fur could become a hassle). Other than that I don't see a problem with it at all

Dunmer are suitable for most of the war paints, and there are a few specifically designed for them.

Oblivion was the only game to break the whole "no war paint" deal. Arena, Daggerfall, and Skyrim had it, SO STOP THINKING OBLIVION WAS THE FIRST GAME EVER PEOPLE! IT IS NOT THE GOLD STANDARD!

The more human version of the Khajiit, the Ohmes and Ohmes-Raht, tattoo their faces.

War paint appeared first in late 2002, made by the freelancer Rhedd for Nord males in Morrowind. That's the origin of war paints made by the devs for Skyrim nine years later.

This is the weirdest lore complaint yet. We know for a fact that several Tamrielic races use warpaint and besides, it's an individual choice. In fact, restricting certain races from using warpaint would be very unrealistic - what is the logical reason? You're allergic and your skin burns whenever you touch paint?

You're not forced to use it if you feel it doesn't fit your character.

I hate the idea that every member of each race has to do the same thing. It's the same as 'what civil war faction would a Redguard join?'. It's an individual thing, and the racial stereotype has nothing to do with the choice of an individual. Any character can join either of the CW factions. Any character can wear war paint.

New Nord battlecry- "Warpaint Belongs to the Nords!!!"

No seriously. anyone can put warpaint on because well... they can. You dont have to have it.
