Isometric

Post » Sun Jun 07, 2009 6:48 am

I really do think the isometric view should be kept from fallout 1-2, NWN2 etc.
I'm sure lot's of people will want full 3D but i still love the isometric view and think with some lush graphics can still live upto anything from today, im sure no one will agree with me :P

I think this view still lives on and if done right can feel as good as anything from todays world.
gamesas im sure will want to play it safe and go full 3D but consider the amount of money saved and how big you can make the game, plus keeping the controls alot simpler.

Isometric 3D at least, i think alot of depth can be created using this style and original fallout lovers should agree. Not you fallout 3 only players :D

Almost forgot a good example, developers/game makers, etc, think that the point and click world is dead, so make idiotic 3d style keyboard adventure point click games, there stupid, curse of monkey island is still the best monkey island game, due to simple good graphics with just using a mouse.

Judging from the fact that gamesas are working with Masthead studios on this project, and there are statements somewhere that the earthrise engine will be used, it is safe to say that the game will be in 3D.
I understand your concerns, the move to a 3D standard way back when seemed to ruin the potential of a lot of games for me, being a stalwart fan of the same point and click adventures. Things have moved on since then, however, and we can have all have faith in a stylish execution by gamesas and Masthead.

In a perfect world FOOL would be Isometric...

Unfortunatly we don't live in a perfect world... :P

So I am not expecting FOOL to be Isometric. It will most likely either be 1st or 3rd person, or some other variant of it. But who knows... anything could happend.

Most MMOs allow you to change the camera to your liking. It's hard to get a perfect 3/4 isometric view, but still possible in most games.
But then you realize that a full 3d game often is a lot harder to play in such a view compared to a "just above the players back" view.

I'm gonna have to pass on calling it FOOL...... not sure that promotes the game or makes sense as a acronym 'Fall Out On Line'.... not a game about tight rope walking ;)

Not saying that the game couldn't work in Isometric, but I just don't see this being Diablo Fallout. Isometric works in a turn based game.

How many shots do you think a sniper is going to get off in isometric view before a melee character closes range and smacks them down? Heck...... what range would a sniper have in isometric view? Think about it...... the games not paused as you pan the screen over to see where people are..... and someone stabs you in the eye.

Isometric view would cater to melee combat and range characters would be non-existent.

That's not really the Fallout any of us wants.

I'd rather have a 3d world than isometric simply because it is an MMO and with the 3d over the shoulder, you are more inclined to feel as though you are part of the action...more so than isometric. At least to me that's how I feel. Image

I don't really want to call it FOOL either... but with so many people doing it, it has sort of rubbed of on me.

My prefered acronym for this game is FOO... because for one it makes more sence then "FOOL"... not to mention that it follows the same pattern as previous Fallout games with 3 characters... FO1, FO2, FOT (although, the full acronym for Tactics would of course be FOT:BoS).

Then of course there is "FO: BoS"... but that's a game we don't talk about... EVER...

the isometric view is beautiful, y love it,
but this game, will be in 3D, because none like the isonometric (is isonometric no isometric) and first gamesas like to win money, are on the border of bankruptcy, dont do anythig great in too time, have legal problems, i dont blame gamesas, they job hard and the game will be great, and ill buy it
seems no one knows if it will be in 3d or isonometric, gamesas say something about it?

isometric can be 3d, fps or tps is probably the word you are looking for. (first person shooter, third person shooter) Image

It seems to me that an optional isometric view would be pretty easy to do, seeing as most 3d software and the level editor probably already has orthographic view
You could actively choose your four cardinal directions, and maybe turn the graphics up higher then you could with perspective view (like on a slower computer).

Maybe? Don't tell anyone about this!

I would want that, in combat you could always go into fps/tps view, but when just walking around in towns/anywhere else you could go in isometric view. Image

Ultimaonline was an ISO MMO and worked just fine in that view.

Yeah that view style give me that sense of nostalgia but then when that wears off it starts to get annoying.
