Issue still unresolved

i posted earlier about a problem i'm having and i got one response telling me to limit the FPS below 100 and i dont know exactly how to do that, i know how to change the Refresh rate but i cant as thats part of the bug, i'm newer to PC gaming and this bug is major i cant use terminals or upon exiting said terminal my charact locks up, i'm using a Gsync monitor and i just updated my drivers through the Geforce experience app and since then the games been wierd. whenever i turn Gsync off the FPS gets halved i'll set it to 60 hz it will go to 30fps 120hz 60fps etc... and when i turn Gsync on it doesnt seem to make a difference the FPS seems to jump around from 80 to 144

i've really been enjoying this game i feel like i'm being ignored and i'm trying to be patient i had serious problems with Skyrim and despite my good judgment i bought another bethesda game because they are amazing games

if anymore information is needed i'll try to provide it

There is a fallout4.ini setting iFPSClamp=#, that sets a maximum frame rate to #. But I've heard it also causes other problems. It is generally used for micro stutter issues - which isn't what you are complaining about.

A little background, if you need it...

Most (but not all) monitors have a standard refresh rate of 60Hz - this means the screen image is refreshed up to 60 times a second. If your graphics card is outputting frames faster than that, many will be discarded as your monitor can't keep up. Basically, your graphics adapter should be set to the same rate as your monitor - usually 60 Hz or 60 fps or 60 cycles per second. This usually happens by default. In your case, however, the frame rate seems to be unbound. Now Gsync attempts to make the monitor refresh at a rate the graphics adapter is outputting. This is backwards from the *old* way of doing things. The catch is that many displays can't match a Gsync rate.

Since this is the first time I've read your post, it would help if you could describe the actual problem you are having versus just asking a nebulous request regarding capping your fps

oh.. everytime i use a terminal in the game upon exiting the terminal my character locks up i cant move, i can look around and jump thats about it, i dont mean to sound irrate or rannt, i think it has something to do with the FPS and the recent update to my drivers because the game was working fine before,

and heres some rig info if its helpful

i'm running a 980ti with a i7 skylake CPU 16gb DDR4 and my OS is win 10

and my Monitor is an asus ROG swift

this is my first high end gaming rig, i watched some videos when i bought into Gsync i thought i was making an informed purchase but i'm slowly realizing i may have made a mistake

Yes this is because you are running on too high FPS.

I had this problem too.

You have to find a way to cap the FPS at around 70 FPS.

Meaning you must download a software or use graphic card software to limit max FPS to 70

Some people do 60, but i run at 70 and its working perfect for me.

I'm using "ASUS GPU tweak" software

Your rig looks good, i dont think you made a mistake.

Its just that this game was not developed to run on high end machines. You're actually running it on too good a machine at the moment.

Another issue is that the physics engine is tied to the frame generation rate, and the animation system is tied to the physics engine, when you change fundamental constants you can get fundamentally different behavior...

In other words, when you change the frame rate you can get a game which behaves differently from how the testers were seeing it. Whether this is good or bad can depend on your sense of humor.

Hi Nyrue,

The following information may be helpful in getting your framerate and refresh rate sorted out!

Many issues related to the game's physics can be traced to manual tweaking of the game's .INI file in order to try and uncap or raise the game's max framerate. These types of issues can also occur if the game/launcher incorrectly detects monitors that are set to refresh rates above 120Hz as being set to 120Hz.

In general, you are advised to keep the game's default settings and continue to play the game with a 60fps cap. The fps cap that the game uses is determined by the your monitor refresh rate (typically 60Hz or 120Hz), and dividing it by the "iPresentInterval" value.

Please note that if your monitor is set to 60Hz, the iPresentInterval value in your .INI file should be "1", and if your monitor is set to 120Hz, the iPresentInterval value should be "2". Setting it to "0" uncaps the framerate and can cause the issues mentioned above. If your monitor is set to a value larger than 120Hz (such as 144Hz), they are advised to set their desktop refresh rate to 120Hz instead, when playing the game.

In some cases, running the game in Borderless Windowed Mode can help. To do so from the Fallout 4 launcher, click Options, then check the Windowed Mode and Borderless checkboxes at the bottom.

So my game was preset to iPresentInterval 1, when i run with a 144hz monitor, then i'm wondering why was my game hardcapped at 30 FPS, and why does not atleast the ini file set my iPresentInterval to atleast 2?
