Issue with enchantment as a mage.

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:55 pm

Hey all,

Im having two issues with my pure mage. He is my favorite character every and i think he may be my perma-character! Its absolutely wonderful! One issue is he doesnt wear armor... I love the fact that i can call upon the powers of my magic to protect myself. Its just that i dont have access to as many enchantments... I even switched from robes to a burgundy shirt and pants to get and extra piece of enchanted clothing. I love the way my character looks, decked out in awesome fancy red silk and burgundy. Is there any way to get gloves though? Also...what is the difference between enchanting with plus to intelligence or plus to magika directly? Which is better, or what are the pros and cons of each?

Thanks guys!!!

P.S. i play on xbox with all the dlc content available over the xbox live marketplace.

There are some mods out there that add gloves, so look for those. Just saw your comment that you are on x-box. Sorry. I think you are out of luck unless you want to try wearing gauntlets, although that will effect your magic efficiency.

I suggest going for the fortify magicka over the fort Int. One reason is that you can always raise your intelligence to 100, and then your fortify magicka will still add on top of that. Whereas with fortify Intelligence, you just stop at 100. You also get more bang for the buck, especially when using sigil stones to fortify magicka.

SERIOUSLY!!!! ALL MY GEAR IS PLUS INT AND I MY INT IS CAPPED AT 100! I have like 156 INT... so the extra 56 INT does nothing????!!

I am surprised you have 156 Intelligence. So far as I knew the only way to get it above 100 was to wait until you had it at 100, and then do the Hermaeus Mora quest. If you want to see that its really working, look at your magicka score, take the gear off, and then look again. See if it drops. If it stays the same, it is not doing anything.

I looked it up in the wiki, and I was wrong, Fortify Attribute does work over 100, and Fort Intelligence does give you a bonus to magikca. So it does work. Although if you only want more magicka, a Fortify Magicka will give you more of that than the Fortify Intelligence, as Fort Magicka is much cheaper.

Actually, >100 Intelligence DOES still increase your magicka. Don't worry, your equipment is not redundant.

You get +2 magicka for every +1 intelligence. As much as fortifying intelligence costs, you get more mana by fortifying magicka for the same spell cost, I think. As SubRosa suggested, hunt down some sigil stones.
As for the wrist enchantment slot, keep your wrist irons from the start of the game. Or if you have Shivering Isles, find another pair at the end of the dungeon in the Feldew addiction quest. Otherwise I don't believe there are any other none armor, wearable gear for the wrists/ hands.

you said you had all the DLC so you can find wrist irons in sundercliff watch in the jail (Unearthing Mehrunes Razor DLC), sadly wrist irons are the only option for cloth "gloves" so your out of luck as far as appearance is concerned if you don't like their look. Go for fortify magicka over fortify intelligence. Intelligence over 100 will increase your magicka, but that is it, and it isn't as efficient as fortify magicka. My advice is to get +50 magicka sigil stones and enchant with that.
The only good intelligence fortifying option I can think of is
Spoiler

The Hermaeus Mora Shrine quest will give you the option to permanently boost intelligence by 10 (works over 100)

Level 17 or higher.

On the glove thing, yes, the wrist irons, which are zero weight.
