issue with placing items

Xbox One

not workshop items but the normal items.

whenever i place items around sanctuary like say lamps, flower vases, desk fans, packs of cigs, ashtrays, booze etc etc etc to give the town atmosphere and flavour, whenever i come back later all placable items i have placed have basically been pickup up and thrown around. Also when you go into workshop mode and pick up an item how it auto snaps upright, whenever this happens when you pick them up they dont auto snap upright but stay in the same position the were (eg lying on their side). you have to put them in inventory then drop them again to do that.

the first time i noticed this i had built a nice little bedroom in me old house id put a little end table next to the bed with a lamp and alarm clock on it and on a small chest of drawer a couple of flowers in vases. not much. but after fast traveling back to sanctuary from wherever id been, dogmeat started barking instantly and the "dogmeat has found something" popped up, i looked around and there were those 4 items lying on road in front of workshop.

I reloaded from save before i fast traveled, then fast traveled and instantly turned towards house to go check if stuff was still there and i saw all 4 items appear out of thin air at about roof height outside then they were basically chucked at me.

Later i built a 3 story house and made a bedroom and veranda on the second floor (quite proud of it too!!) and i put alot of decorations around like i put a coffee table with seating around on veranda and put like a couple bottles of booze, couple of shot glasses, ashgtray, pack of smokes, vase of flowers and chess board on table all lined up nicely and then other stuff like fans and vases and lamps etc on end tables and chests of drawers etc a fancy coffee pot and cups on another table and a bunch of other stuff. when i left and came back everything had basically been picked up and strewn across sanctuary. some of it was on the floor around where it was, some was miles away like i built the house on the foundation of the ruined house north of and next to the workshop and i found the carton of undamaged smokes between the 2 house at the far north west corner! and i have yet to find everything!! also now the undamaged carton of smokes is un-interactable as in i cannot pick it up in normal mode or scrap it/pick up/store in workshop mode and there is no name or anything when you pointing at it.

it seems anything i place that is not and actual workshop item is picked up and just thrown in every direction once i return to that cell.

interestingly though in your actual home there was a coffee can on floor, i never picked it up as i thought it looked cool and then when i figured out that when in workshop mode you could pick up items they would snap upright and you could place them i put it on the bench and then placed a coffee pot, couple of mugs, breadbox and red plate all nicely and then a hot plate on other side so looked all homely lol.

once i left and returned once again everything had been completely strewn around the place (still have not found the hotplate) except for the can of coffee.

the can of coffee never entered my inventory nor a storage container, maybe this has something to do with it?

sorry for bad explanation but if anyone remembers what a nightmare it was to place stuff in oblivion in your homes and then once you finally got it whenever you came back it was generally all on the floor, its like that except its not just on floor its been literally thrown in all random directions

It comes down to the fact that items placed in the world by the devs are accounted for in the game data, as are items you build and place, and items you pick up in the build menu that snap upright. These are the only things that will stay where they are. To just place things not in the build menu out of your inventory will cause problems. Not only will they not stay put you're bloating your save file because now the game has to keep track of all this extra junk that is not assigned a permanent location in the game data. there were problems with this in Skyrim too. For me, from FO NV onwards, I never drop items out of my inventory onto the game map- I always drop into containers. It keeps your save file from getting screwed and breaking your game. There are plenty of things to craft in the build interface. You can even find magazines in the world that give you more crafting options. I found one for making patio furniture, for example.

Hopefully they will make workshop decorations for small stuff like plates and cups and stuff in the future. I tried putting a couple of pool sticks on the pooltabe and whenever I go back there they end up in the table. For some reason the 3 poolballs I put down stay right were I left them with no problems though. I just wished they had a indoor wall section with a door. I'm making a 5 floor apartment complex but the only wall section with a door has a roof section on it. Windows would be nice but I guess that would just give raiders something to shoot through.

There are small objects like lamps and toasters and stuff that I've sen so far. I would definitely like more, though. You can also make bookshelves and magazine racks and load them up like in Skyrim and it works pretty well.

Interior doors are definitely an issue for me as well. I use some of the prefab hallways that are cubes with two open and two waled sides and arrange them to make three- walled rooms but you can't cap the fourth wall off with a door. That would be nice.

Hmm... I wonder what would happen if you did what you describe, placing an item you can build in build mode, but one you dropped out of your inventory. A toaster, for example. I'll try this tomorrow when I play: I'll drop a toaster out of my inventory, open build mode and place the toaster. I'll ALSO build a toaster in build mode and place that. Then I'll fast-travel out and back and see if either, both, or just one of them moves. I'll obviously have to remember which one was built and which one was dropped from inventory. I'll let you know what happens.

I've found that when you move items in the build mode they tend to move around. If you just drop items and then drag them I've had pretty good experience so far. There are some odd items that move form time to time but overall I've had pretty good luck.
