Issues loading data

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 11:03 am

Basic whats going on is the GECK will open and all the tools and what not appear to be functioning but when I click file then Data then pick a file to load then hit okay... nothing happens it acts as if its done loading the content of the data files I selected saying done in the box on the bottom bar. Just to clarify then i click file then data all the titles of all the mods i have installed and all the original files (ex falloutnv.exe and so on) are there for me to chose from. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

What OS are you using? Windows Vista and 7 sometimes have permission issues with games.

64-bit? If so and Steam is installed to the Program Files (x86) folder, move it somewhere else, like C:\Games or even C:\Steam, and try it again. If Steam stops working, move the SteamApps folder somewhere else and download the Steam installer, remove the old installation, reinstall Steam, start it up but do not log in, then move the SteamApps folder back to the Steam folder and log in. If you're not using the 64-bit version or Steam is not installed to the Program Files (x86) folder, try running it in XP SP 3 compatibility as well as with admin access. You'll know the GECK is working when it stops responding for a few seconds while loading up the data files. This is normal - don't close it because it will get out of its rut and load everything properly.

Alright I moved steams folder to the c drive games folder then tried to run the GECK again but same result. I have used the Fallout 3 GECK before so I know what you mean by the lag time in the loading, but alas the NV GECK acts as it has loaded the content still reporting Done on the bottom of the screen and still giving me access to nothing. Oh and I am using windows 7 64 bit just to clarify.

I apologize for the string of post. on to my point I tried the trouble shooter what ever setting windows tried to use broke the GECK and it would not work at all it would crash on start up same deal when trying to run it with the XP Service Pack 3. I have also tried to open the program using admin access that still yields my primary problem of the GECK loading nothing.

Huh. Well, here's my checklist:

1. New Vegas is not in the Program Files (x86).
2. You have the latest version of the NV GECK (1.4) along with its support files (there are two: an .ico and a .dll file).
3. The GECK is installed in the same folder as the falloutnv.exe file.
4. The GECK is set to run as admin and XP SP 3 compatiblity.
5. You're not running any third party extenders to the GECK (like NVSE).
6. You're setting your mod as active when you load it.
7. You can load the falloutnv.esm by itself and see everything in it.
8. You can create a test mod with only the falloutnv.esm loaded. A test mod is one that changes something and is then saved, making a new mod.

If all of those check out and you're still having problems, I don't know what to tell you. I'm sure it's something simple we're overlooking but I can't figure out what. :sadvaultboy:

Ah the issue was in the version whats odd is I down loaded the NV GECK several times last week alone and always got the 1.1 version. Thank you very much with out that checklist I never would have known that I needed to hunt down the new version and a very large thank you for your patience with me.
