Item condition gone?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 2:41 am

Havent seen much on item condition, perhaps something on the Power armor. Thoughts? Repairing items is no longer neccesary?

Please excuse bad Spelling and such.

For me personally, I'd be glad if its gone.
Lately I always mod Fallout 3/NV to have 0 condition degradation. I just find it very annoying to repair constantly, given the fact that the weapons degrade sooooo fast.

I hope it's gone. Weapons and armour degraded way to fast to the extent you would carry multiple copies of a weapon or armour around to repair it. Was especially annoying for unique weapons. I would like the option to clean weapons to lessen the chance of a jam, but that be it.

I hope it's not gone, but at a reduced rate would be nice. :)

I hope its still in but with a better repair system. Carrying around more than one copy of anything to keep your kit repair was a pain, the wieght added up. NV did good by adding repair kits for weapons but those fell short by being single use only. Here's to FO4 doing better and impressing like it had with everything else shown so far.

This, at least heavy weapon degraded surreal fast. more like the idem degradation speed in Oblivion, you could use the same weapon and armor trough an quest dungeon but it would be smart to check condition halfway, and fix it afterwards.

Unlike TES it degradation feel more real and have impact in fallout.

One point is that item degradation make it possible to make level scaling who is very hard to notice. In the beginning enemies has weapons and armor in real crappy condition this makes them weak as you level up condition get better. so the level 20 raider has the same gear as the level 1 but gear is 5 times better.

Power Armor had a health statistic, and there was a "Repair" option shown, greyed out presumably because the armor was already at full health. No such things for the weapon crafting, though.

I wouldn't hold out on item condition being a thing for anything other than Power Armor, personally. I wish they just did it differently instead of dumping it, but que sera sera. I don't think I'll miss it.

with the focus on moding weapons and armor it looks like the annoying burden of repairing stuff just might be gone for good

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Perforator

that gun can only fire 1000 rounds from mint before breaking. That seems kind of low end but if this was reality, your probably firing everything from Ridiculously old Corrosive ammo to literally black powder to "modern" (but expired) non corrosive ammo to whatever some clueless twit hand loaded.

In the real world a range I know estimates that they go 60-100k with various AKs before needing to completely rebuild.(not counting usual maintenance and replacing bolts pins and springs)

but honestly that is why I'm kind of gun-shy about other peoples weapon mods. more non cross repairable weapons the harder it is to keep any one gun maintained

FNV balanced it perfectly. You could carry around the repair kits or repair using similar gear. And there was also a perk that expanded what you could use to repair with. Id like to see that again.

There's a mod on the nexus which also improved gear repair which was really cool. I forget the name but it was pretty popular.

It better come back, because I hated its removal in Skyrim, it completely unbalanced the loot system. Once you found an awesome sword, there was never any need to use anything else. It made looting really boring and took some of the immersional depth out of the game experience.

I dont think its gone it's just hidden. On one video where the guy is running around in power armour you can see a yellow outline in the lower left corner. The Witcher 3 did the same where damage is only show when it gets to a certain point but you have to examine the weapon/armour to find the exact condition.

I'd be rather disappointed to see it removed. I enjoyed the mechanic, and it encouraged me to scavenge every location I came across. I'd really like to see it work with the new system they showed, where nearly every junk item can be salvaged for useful parts; have different salvaged parts be used to repair.

They shot so many different weapons, and did so quick enough that it's hard to even get a glimpse to see if they were degrading or not.... but... I do believe that it might still be in, because you can break down weapons for their parts now.... so if a weapon does indeed break, you can probably A.... Repair said weapon, or B.... break it down for it's individual parts.

Item condition is a mechanic that very few games have ever done right (Way of the Samurai is about the only one I can think of offhand), so I don't think it'd be a bad thing if it were removed from the Fallout series. That said, I'd prefer to see a well-implemented condition system over none at all. Having to maintain your gear fits the theme of the setting well.

Well I guess you didn't work on smithing, because I constantly upgraded my armor and weapons, found enchanted items and potions that overmaxed my armor and weapons drastically, which is really a better take on the whole repair angle since improving things is better than having to constantly micromanage their condition.

You upgrade the SAME sword and armor. Like I said, once you got a better item, and bare in mind it was real easy to get lucky and find something amazing fairly early on. You ended up skipping over much of the mid tiers of gear and never actually using them, hence why the loot became pointless so quickly.

I think if they simply slow the rate of degradation down rather than binning it altogether you lose that fgeeling of constantly having to micromanage, which would be good.

The problem is that it still will be a burden that festers in the back of mind of anyone playing or with a OCD about keeping gear at 100% at all times.

I'd be a little pissed off if they removed it instead of refining it.

Looting in TES/ FO3 isn't ever worth it unless you are going for daedric princes' relics or hunting for things like the experimental mirv. Having to carry 10+ repair hammers or ten tons of duplicate gear for repairing is just inspid and need to go the way of the dodo.

They could always make it optional, or scale with difficulty. I prefer it to be quite harsh myself, since most of the gear is ancient and knackered junk. I find it very rewarding to see just how resourceful I can be when the game is so punishing. And its not the tough enemies, I don't care for that sort of difficulty, I like the challenging of having to adapt and think outside of the box in an effort to survive. That's why I enjoy these sorts of features.

Are game developers really expected to cater for any/all forms of OCD now?

I think armor will be destroyable and you end up having to replace the parts with othere pieces though that just might be for power armor only.
