An Item Deleter, Like a Portable Trash Can?

Post » Fri Jan 07, 2011 9:05 pm

I have a lot of junk and items I've collected in Fallout 3. Im wondering if there are any mods out there that will allow me to place items in it and delete them from the game.

In Oblivion, you could simply toss all your unwanted stuff in any container that wasn't specifically "safe", and they'd be history. Since FO3 by default doesn't have resetting zones, I dunno if that'd work here.

However, you can do it still manually. Fallout 3 has introduced the console command "MarkForDelete", or "zap" for shorthand.

Drop the item you want to nix. Then activate the console, and click the object. At the top of the screen, it should say the object's in-game name, as well as its 8-digit hexidecimal ID code. If it's not the right one, use the mouse wheel to scroll through everything that was under the point where you clicked until you find it. Type the command "zap". It'll be history.

BE VERY VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS COMMAND. USE IT ONLY ON THINGS YOU WANT TO PERMANENTLY REMOVE FROM THE GAME.

I don't know if a mod exists that lets you do this, but you could easily do it via the console. Just place all of the items that you wish to delete in an empty container, then select that container in the console and call http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/RemoveAllItems on it.

Even though there's a couple of mods for it, can that be done for ash and goo piles?

I always assumed that any items you put into respawning containers would be gone for good after a period of time. I've just always gotten rid of unwanted stuff by doing that, not that I really know which are respawning or not.

I rememebr seeing a mod that includes a garbage can to remove items like that. I think it's part of a house mod. Not a house I was particulary interested in but I did like the garbage can :) I just don't remember what it's called.

Edit: Cipscis' idea is a good one. I never thought of that. That might be easier for me instead of using all garbage cans as dumping grounds, as sometimes even weeks later the garbage man still has not been

It's the http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7115.
Curmudgeon has also used the script for the garbage can in his http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13698 mod.

+1 for Maintenance Shed mod (even though I have never used the feature). Personally, stuff that I don't want either stays in the container/body where I found it, or gets shoved into the next corpse that I encounter. Plus the Maintenance Shed makes a wonderful, fresh out of the vault, need a place to stash stuff, isn't filled with god-mode toys, bit of player housing in a convenient location.

(Even though I have the Megaton house, I'm staying in the maint shed for this play-through. It has just the right amount of storage compared to my Megaton house.)

...

For ash/goo piles, I've always used:

Vanishing Ash Piles and Goo Piles

(loaded about middle of the load order)

Yes, I do use Vanishing Ash & Goo piles, now. Dead bodies are another favourite

Maintenance Shed, ah, that's it. A mod that changes all the garbage bins to be just like in his mod would be handy :)
