It depends on the character of course. Some characters never loot weapons or armor. Some characters never loot gold. Some characters only loot gold. One character never looted anything at all. It all depends on how I am roleplaying a particular character.

Depends on the character. Those who use Alchemy will take ingredients, while others won't. I don't think I've ever had a character who would leave gems behind. (Maybe I need to make such a character. :) )

Very few of my characters will take weapons or armor, unless they have needed enchantments, or are of a quality that is rare at the character's level. I'd had a few characters "swap" weapons with whatever the dead enemy was carrying. Armor, especially Heavy Armor, is too heavy to bother lugging away to sell. Money is just not a problem in Elder Scrolls games.

Pretty much anything but body armor unless it's unique/rare. Same goes for weapons unless they're arrows/bolts and I'm playing an archer.

Food can be a little iffy. Some characters eat it right from the looting window and others steer clear of it.

Useless clutter tends to be left behind, though.

Buffy is insatiably curious, so she looks in every chest, checks every dead foe etc. But she only picks up gold coins or items she knows she will actually use regularly. She does pick up soul gems - her mystic bow has soul trap on it and she likes the looks/sound of the animation of pulling the blue out of her dead foes. Then she sells the gems. Generally, she buys the few things she needs when in town. She clears dungeons because she enjoys the adventure, exploration and thrill. Limiting her looting to basically gold more than fills her coin purse.

Armor, clothes - Nope. She has a pretty big wardrobe already and just how she wants it.

Weapons - Nope. Only weapon she uses is a mystic bow - conjured bow and arrows.

Valuable gems, jewelry - Nope. Plenty of actual gold lying around that has no weight.

Food - Nope. No idea how old it is or where it's been. . . .

Scrolls - Nope. No use for scrolls. She knows all the spells she needs.

Books - Nope, unless she knows the Arcanium is looking for a copy.

Potions/poisons - Sometimes. She will grab cure disease potions, strong healing potions and strong poisons - as she may use those.

Lockpicks - Nope. She knows a spell to open anything she needs (mod).

Usually, just gold, lockpicks, healing potions, arrows, and anything rare or unique or expensive.

That particular character was very physically weak. She could only carry 50 weight units. So she couldn't loot things that weighed much, even if she wanted to. I planned for her to loot lightweight things like scrolls also, but once we got in the game it turned out she was only interested in gold. I don't know why. My characters are often a mystery to me...

Looting varies with each character but all characters take gold, gems, and ingredients. As always, there are always exceptions:

no -cups, plates, etc (see edit)
yes -gems (all characters, to sell, trade or use in the arcane forge)
yes -weapons (at the beginning of the game & unique weapons for use or display)
yes -armors (at the beginning of the game & unique items to wear or display)
yes -ingredients (all characters, to sell or make potions)
yes -food (some characters, esp. with Frostfall mod)

Also depending on the character, they may also loot pelts (hides), potions, arrows, and lock picks.

Spoiler
Werewolf characters loot hearts as that is the only thing they can loot in that form.

edit: actually, characters using Frostfall do use utensils and pots for cooking but they usually don't loot them.

It completely depends on the character.

I have had character that would take anything not nailed down ( it took forever for them to clear one dungeon of stuff). I have had characters that would only take unique items, gold, gems and jewelry. Most fall somewhere in between.

For particular RP's sometime the character will really like the look of Dwemer items and will get a full set of dinnerware, 4 or 6 fork's, spoons, knives, bowls, plates, cups...etc, even though some items are much harder to get multiple of than others.

Generally speaking I give all my characters what I think is a more realistic carry weight and only pick up things that they would know is valuable.

Most of my characters used to take anything valuable/useful early on and then as they progressed they became a bit more choosy and only took stuff relavent to their build.

I agree with all of this in theory but in practice I have an obsessive need to loot everything of value from a place and make multiple trips back there if neccessary. Makes Dwemer ruins a real pain.
