... its called RvR, not AvA

Post » Thu Mar 06, 2014 3:24 am

so heres the deal...

daoc had rvr, and it was well done and the gaming industry took note. however when EA bought warhammer, they copyrighted the term rvr in an attempt to prevent other games from using the widely recognized term for non EA games.

i would rant about why EA is awful, but i think thats fairly obvious to any real gamers.

the only option available when describing the next "rvr" game, was "AvA" which was reluctantly accepted by gw2 producers and sold to the public. fortunately, eso seems to be dodging the terminology completely, to avoid using such a term.

but we as players dont need to worry about EAs lawyers, and can call it what we want.

so lets call it what it was known for since 2001, instead of what it was changed to last year because of EAs dou€#£bag lawyers.

not only does this have nothing to do with the topic, but daoc was an indie game made by 12 dudes and 2million, that created the genre niche that ESO is modelled after.

dont rage here because you are being laughed at in the other thread mr free rps :)

Does this matter? AvA seems more relatable because we refer to the factions as alliances. FvF?

Lol. I don't think it matters, we can call it whatever.

AvA sounds weird. Just say RvR. Problem solved. You're welcome :D

I get that we can call it RvR, but the game calls it AvA (because of EA's copyright, as you mentioned), and the sides are called Alliances, so I've made the terminology change so it doesn't become confusing to non-DAoC players.

Alliance v Alliance v Alliance

might be the same model, and some of the same people, but its not the same game.

Doesn't matter what it's called as long as you know what the other person is talking about. It's like the irrational rage people get from others using 'toon'. Nobody likes a pedant.

Oddly enough I played on opposite factions of the OP here on the same servers, Mid Merlin for 6 years, and Destro Badlands after the merges for awhile.

I never once felt Warhammer should have been able to use the Realm vs Realm wording as it didn't have three realms like Daoc, simply two alliances which made it lack some of the excitement of the three way battle in Daocs RvR not to mention the diluted mirror class system which they still managed to poorly implement.

true, but as far as EA is concerned, the term was a valuable asset to acquire, even if only to be a dike to other game companies

Alliance versus Alliance is what will take hold. Realm versus Realm is very outdated, and most people associate "realms" with "shards," "servers," etc.

AvA it is.

(I personally will always just say PvP)

We can call it RvR all we want. Zenimax can never call it RvR unless they wish to be sued.

My nostalgia agrees with you 100% however but my reality knows that since both DAoC and WAR are both still running and not f2p no games shall have the precious RvR

psst its being modelled after by the same 12 dudes and the same 12 dudes that created warhammer and the same 12 dudes that created that other daoc clone pssst DAOC wasnt that great of an idea it never took off and its not gonna take off this time even though it was hidden in the folds of the greatest franchise ever second only to final fantasy

Could someone explain these "codes" you are using.

AvA = Alliance vs Alliance

RvR = ???? Roger vs Rabbit ?

I believe RvR is realm versus realm...and makes no sense in TES. It's just a legacy term from old MMOs.

cant believe EA would copyright that term, those bastards are greedy as crap. Will never buy anything from that company again. Im guessing since all their MMO's Fail they need to make money from other games using the RvR haha

hear ye hear ye. :)

I see not reason to call it anything else then PvP unless to explain in some circumstance how the PvP is functioning.

AvA sound better then RvR for ESO also :)
