If its a direct sequel....

Post » Mon Jun 07, 2010 4:56 pm

im not sure what ur getting at exactly, but...i think ur meaning to say that more game players know about oblivion than landfall.

This is correct. More people know about Oblivion than landfall. More people played the game than read the book, and very few people have read the loveletter compared to those who've played Oblivion.

in that case, ur making the book and the loveletter (/and some other obscure lore tidbits) non-cannon.

Incorrect. I'm saying that the reason why they didn't mention the novels in the teaser trailer is because the novels themselves are
A) less well known.
B. incomplete.

but...u still r saying its AFTER the novels, right? so WHY make it AFTER the novels if ur even agreeing that NO ONE has really read the novels, so therefore NO ONE would really understand y this and that was happening...

idk, redundancy lol. just saying tho, that [censored] goes south reeeeal quick after landfall, so i doubt this game or any tes games in the future will be set after the novels...tho maybe the last tes game ever could lead up right INTO landfall. thatd b ok with me lol.

I think it will be after the novels because I don't think the novels have given any hint that something like Skyrim has happened. All I'm saying is that, for the purposes of the teaser trailer, bringing up Oblivion as a notable point in time makes more sense than referencing novels they haven't finished publishing yet.

I think it will mostly play off of the open end of Oblivion. The Empire falling apart, no Emperor. That stuff, I doubt it'll be weeks after Oblivion though.

I don't know if you played Mass Effect 2, and while Ascension is a nice complement you absolutely don't need to read it in order to follow the story. Same thing with Retribution I guess. They just write those books for additional lore and make people wait between games and hype them.

GUYS.

We know it will be after the novels because when the novels were announced, the publisher stated that the novels would fill the gap of time between Oblivion and the next game.

Go look at some of the threads about the novels in the Elder Scrolls Discussion forum for info on that.

all of that would have been well and fun, but people -here- on the forums frequently reference IC as a stud between Oblivion and Skyrim, thus since the game was in progress BEFORE the books and yet as it stands (not saying there wont be any references to IC in Skyrim if ti does indeed take place after) IC is considered pre Skyrim among the forumers so why not reference it in the Trailer to some light noticable degree?

Granted I understand the implications of the Trailer and all its limits, in that we have little information and that at any point more links to IC and a confirmation could be in bound, but I am talking about the point we currently stand at now.

It is not a Sequel, but a Chapter in the Elder Scrolls Lore.

It can be based on or shaped by events of earlier games, but it is it's own story like all other Elder Scrolls games have been.

We could just wait for the GI article. That's (when Skyrim is relative to IC) probably something gamesas would confirm this early.

"Direct" Sequels are basically the same thing as "Chronological" Sequels. It just takes place at an unknown time later in the storyline, but it must follow the events of the previous story. Sequel is a pretty loose term because some people interpret it as an all-encompassing word to contain every -quel word as long as it was made after an original story, regardless of where/when it actually occurs in the storyline.

Apparently they said like a year ago that the next elder scrolls would happen 200 years after Oblivion, so I guess, like already stated, that you'll be playing as a different character, but the storylines are somehow connected

They wouldn't have this the first thing that was announced about the game if iy was substantial or important. what do you rekon they mean by direct sequel as so far the story and the world seem to be going in a completely different direction from Oblivion.
I think that it may be reffering to the turmoil in the empire that everyone talk about in Oblivion.
What do others think will happen?

According to information given out then quickly removed, Skyrim will be set 200 years after Oblivion, the biggest jump in timeline in TES history.

which reinterates my statements regarding the trailer's -events- taking 200 years after (if so) and nothing is mentioned except the Oblivion crisis? meh I dont buy the 200 year bit, awaiting the information within the GI magazine.
