...Its not the Dragons.

Post » Mon Aug 16, 2010 7:58 pm

"You should have acted.
They're already here.
The Elder Scrolls told of their return.
Their defeat was merely delay
Til the time after Oblivion opened,
When the sons of Skyrim would spill their own blood.
But no-one wanted to believe.
Believe they even existed.
And when the truth finally dawns:
It dawns in fire.
But,
There's one they fear.
In their tongue, he's Dovahkiin:
Dragon Born!"

It doesnt mention that the threat, anywhere, really, is the dragons...Oddly ambiguous phrasing for such a simiple, obvious event considering the marketing...no? So, if the voiceover wasnt referring to a dragon, since theyd use that word..I wonder who our enemy will be. A dragon? Too easy, they have been avoiding the words. Theres only a few things that such ambiguous words could mean...Its not the dragons that are the threat. The elder scrolls told of their return. Not of the dragons, of the original Empire. The ones who speak the first lines will be the enemies, attempting to stop the descendants of the One (eight and the one divines) from taking their place as rightful heir from the false king of Skyrim.

Conspiracy, and away!

Edit: also, I do believe that the dragons shown in the teaser, while Esbern gives the whole speach, might kind of point to... dragons.

I've seen the dragons i think we'll be fighting them .. and with the whole in there tongue he is Dovahkiin thing and how much they're on about the epicness of fighting a dragon... i'd say im 95% sure the dragons are the threat.. and if they're not and they underappreciate dragons im am assainating Todd Howard

You read that in Max von Sydow's voice.

So you're saying the dragons are only a diverson? We've seen the dragon in the trailer and the player character is the last Dragonborn. I think it's pretty obvious.

Yeah in the trailer he says about dragons, although the main enemy is Alduin and/or someone who is capable to summon him.Probably a leader of a dragon cult.

Sure, if you ignore the imagery that goes with those words.

But when this text...

But no-one wanted to believe.
Believe they even existed.
And when the truth finally dawns:
It dawns in fire.

...is matched up with images of a dragon awakening (the eye opening), and then finally the first full shot of a dragon (everything in the trailer that far was shadows/hints/etc), it's hard to imagine that they mean something else.

This.

"Dragons" is the enemy as much as the Mythic Dawn were the enemy in Oblivion. Alduin is the main issue.

Maybe you are thinking of games in the past, where the hero's nemesis remains shadowy and hidden manipulating events and people, up until the very end of the game when all is revealed. I think the days of those types of games are over. The modern audience likes to know what they are fighting right up front with constant physical reminders of that fact periodically throughout the game. Why should anyone want a vague puppetmaster that might even be weaving together a well-conceived plan of events that might even end up influencing the hero to take actions they might not otherwise have become involved?

Sigh... I am making myself depressed.

I'm going to have to agree that the main enemies are the Dragons, namely Alduin the World-Eater. But, perhaps the whole "King of Skyrim" bit has something to do with the game as well, because during the chanting in the main chorus aren't they singing "Dovahkiin! For the King!", then some other ambiguous words.... Maybe it is just "Dovahkiin! Dovahkiin!", which is the most likely of cases, but the words are quite difficult to understand....

Well, it's clearly dragons that are initially the "bad guys", but I doubt Alduin will be the 'real' enemy after all.

Alduin/Akatosh/Auri-El is the real deal, he's not a fake God like Dagoth Ur.

Even more so, he's the most powerful entity known in TES lore.
He can defeat Mehrunes Dagon just by farting in his direction, "eat" your lifespan and probably rip entire Tamriel out of the ocean and put it back upside down.

Dovakhiin is dragon language? If it is then they clearly state that the enemy will be Dragon/s.
Why would Dragons else fear the Dragonborn if they weren't the enemy?

No, I'm pretty sure the main antagonists are dragons. Todd Howard confirmed it in "The Road to Skyrim" interview (search it on youtube; but I warn you, its long) and it has been confirmed that when you kill a dragon, you can absorb its soul and gain a dragon shout. It has also been confirmed that dragons will be attacking villages, and we've seen them in the gameplay trailer.
Would it be cool if there was some other power behind the dragons and Bethesda fooled us all? Yeah, I think so, but at this point we don't really have enough information to suppose otherwise and I'm perfectly content with fighting dragons.

The chant in the trailer goes like this:

Dovahkiin Dovahkiin
Naal ok zin los vahriin
Wah dein vokul mahfaeraak ahst vaal
Ahrk fin norok paal graan
Fod nust hon zindro zaan
Dovahkiin Fah hin kogaan mu draal

And then after that comes this, though this next part wasn't in the trailer:

Ahrk fin kel lost prodah
Do ved viing ko fin krah
Tol fod zeymah win kein meyz fundein
Alduin feyn do jun
kruziik vokun staadnau
voth aan bahlok wah diivon fin lein
