Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:22 am

I just borrowed it from my brother in law about a month ago. A week later I got my own copy and have not put another game in my PS3 since. Just bought the GOTY edition yesterday for the expansion packs.

Where are our manners? Welcome to the forums, zero101! Have a http://www.uesp.net/w/images/images.new/c/c4/Fishystick.jpg. It's a weird tradition but it's ours.

Now, like the others said, don't be sad. Be happy! You have a whole new world in your hands, one I hope will bring you half the enjoyment it has me. I've played Fallout 3 for over 2,000 hours and still have not done everything there is to do in the game. Go play your new game and have a great time. If you need any help or just want to chat about the game, come back here :)

Fishy stick? How did that tradition start? :)

I never got a fishy stick for my first post.

--------------

And I agree with everyone here. Be happy! The feeling of walking out in the Wasteland for the first time is...amazing.

Think about all the people who never played Fallout 1 or 2 or any of the others (including me) even though some of us considered them when they first came out. Decisions, decisions, you know?

The point about GOTY editions is very valid. The gaming industry is getting a bit too extreme on this element. $60 for a new game, okay. $10 or more for DLC... during the next year... and then a rerelease with everything?! That's robbery, really. I'm not sure how sustainable such a practice will be due to the vast difference in price.

The point about mods is VERY important. If it wasn't for mods fixing Western art styles for characters, I would find it difficult to impossible to play Bethesda's games. Can't really play a game when I cannot empathize with the characters (especially the one I am playing!) There are plenty of other games with appealing characters for me to play, after all. However, Bethesda has one of the most active modding communities in the world. Fallout 3 has mods created by players in many differentt global markets. It's interesting to study.

It's not sad, but you could have gotten New Vegas instead. A real Fallout game.

Played Fallout 3, loved it, played New Vegas, loved it, but loved Fallout 3 more.

Kindly remember that your opinion of what constitutes a "real" Fallout game is just that, an opinion. Out of all the Fallout games I've played (FO2, Tactics, FO3, NV) I enjoy FO3 the most and I find it to be the most successful at immersing me in a post-apocalyptic retro-future (with NV running a VERY close second).

With Bethesda, waiting until the bugs are fixed is the way to go anyway. I didn't buy FO3 until the GOTY had been out for awhile, and I'm glad I waited. Same with New Vegas; I'll be waiting for the GOTY that has all the major updates, bug fixes, and additional content for a good price. Patience is a virtue, at least in this case. And let me join the others in saying: Enjoy. I too would love to go back and experience this game for the first time again.

fallout 3 is a great game. I really enjoyed it. i actually played NV before FO3. But I still though FO3 was awesome. FO3 has a much better exploration factor (at least in my opinion). I wished I played FO3 before NV. And by the time you are done FO3 they will probably have released the Game of The year edition of NV so you will save a lot on DLC costs.

It's a fun game and all, but considering the game is called "Fallout 3," it sure has little to nothing to do with Fallout 1 and 2. If it was a non-canon title like Fallout: Tactics was, I would not despise it nearly as much. If it was called Fallout: The Capital Wasteland, I could respect that.

Series change with sequels; that's an unavoidable fact of life.

I can respect that you feel it doesn't feel like old Fallout because it's not turn based, but if you're objecting on story or design grounds that is a purely subjective area.

Unless you mean you feel only games set on the West Coast in that area should be numbered?

I believe that Fallout Tactics is now considered canon.

It goes beyond not being turn based. F:NV feels a lot more like a true sequel to F2, because it makes a lot of references to places and characters in F1 and F2, and actually talks about the Chosen One (player character in F2) and his/her actions. It also brought back game elements from F1 and F2, like a reputation system and different kinds of ammo, things that were removed from F3 for some mysterious reason.

Yeah, in a way Fallouts not set in the West Coast really shouldn't be numbered. Why should they? The numbered games are a series - Fallout 1, then Fallout 2 which is a direct sequel, and whoops, a game called Fallout 3 which has nothing to do with those two games. It's like Far Cry 2, what does it have to do with Far Cry?

My point is, F3 has nothing to do with F1 and F2. Doesn't make a bad game by any means. It has nothing to do with the gameplay being different. The end.

Envy you :D

Whenever I have my fill of a different game I always come back to FO3, even if it's just for a few days or a week before I try to get into something new, FO3 for me just never grows old or dull :) I've put off playing a new Civilisation game for couple of weeks now and it's all FO3 fault!

As for the FO1 & 2 and cannon stuff, I think FO3 is a great example of how an old and good idea of a game can evolve into such a master piece that the award winning FO3 is. It's set a standard for subsequent RPG shooters that in my opinion hasn't been matched yet despite all the newer game engines and script writing since the vanila game came out. Also, Cannon isn't terribly importnat to me, if I purchase a new game I expect it to pull it's weight by itself and not have to rely on previous games or reputation or older story lines. I dare say FO3 may be responsible for any increased sales and popularity of the FO1/2 games, so looking at this strategically FO3 is probably the best thing that's happened to FO1/2 :hubbahubba:

Don't be sad. I only got Fallout 3 Game Of The Year Editon 6 or 7 days ago.

You won't be missing anything like some games because it has no online multplayer. If you get games with online multiplayer too late you can have too few or no one to play with.

And if you got the F3 GOTY you will have got all the dlc included without having to download them. And the bugs will be ironed out.

I do wish I had got it earlier though. Awesome game. :D

I only got F3 after completing F:NV, it's by far the best way round to play them. Plus I got the GOTY edition with all the DLC for only a tenner. Which was nice.
