Hmm. I'm playing on default difficultly with hardcoe enabled and overall I'd say it's been slightly easy most of the time. Of course, I'm a sniping SoB and I'm very careful.

That being said sometimes it's just best to avoid certain enemies until you have better weapons. For the first several levels I ran away from giant radscorpions because they could 2-3 shot me and my guns were so ineffective against them it was a waste of ammo for the exp reward. However, the smaller scorpions are easily killed with a melee weapon by circling around them hacking since they turn slow enough to never be able to retaliate. I also found a place where there is literally between 20 and 30 Deathclaws all in small area. I managed to kill 1 young and advlt, but the ammo cost was too severe so I decided I'll pay them a visit much later.

I enjoy it because it makes me consider risk and cost vs reward.

Honestly, even with hardcoe mode on, I still think the game is fairly easy. Granted I do play a more stealthy character so that kinda tilts things drastically in my favor, but still. So far the hardest part has been managing to stay under my weight limit :(

But I'm not at all disappointed with it, and can't fully judge the difficulty since I've only gotten into a couple of firefights with some jackal gang runts.

This game is really difficult to me, but the most trouble I have had in the game are the Deathclaws since there are so many of them and they can kill me in less than 5 hits, worse I can't run from them =/
I even met a random Alpha Deathclaw and it killed me in one hit at full health (I was at level 15...)
Radiation has almost killed me in Vault 34 also, I barely made it out with 953 rads (So the people who complained radiation isn't lethal enough, cogratz they took most of the radaway... away to make it alot harder)
Everything else I can take care of easy really far away though P=

I played the whole thing on hardcoe and found it extremely easy. Hell I even did the first part of the final battle with no armor on and still had a [censored] load of stimpacks and food to tide me over.

Reason being, you get way too much money in the game. I sold all sorts of crap and had over 6k caps at the end of the game.

Yeah, I'm playing on Very Hard hardcoe and those Caezorz or whatever theya re called are SO FAST and deal a [censored] ton of damage it's pretty crazy. Deathclaws are just a no go until you're 25+ I'm pretty sure.

Be careful where you go in the beginning. Get a bit stronger then go back and kick some butt.

This! I love the fact that it's so easy to get your face trounced early in the game. It's going to make it that much more satisfying when I come back later and smoke those chumps.

Yeah, I'm playing on hardcoe, so ED-E was dead. I may do something to make them essential, but the mods that do so apparently just revive them as soon as they die, which I don't like at all (I don't think that making companions essential is cheap, but it's definitely cheap if they get knocked out and then pop back up again right away). I'd much rather if they stayed down until the end of a battle, and then got back up when no enemies are attacking you, like in Dragon Age.

I noticed every time ED-E would get knocked out he will stay down until you clear the area. So he does do good. I just need to check to see if anyone has found a way to unlock the memories of ED-E since theres a quest for it but theres no pointers to even get you started in the right direction.

I am very much enjoying the difficulty bump here!
I like that I cannot just start walking up to everything and blowing them away!

Death claws really live up to their name now. I lead one all the way to Novac to get some help and he wiped the entire town.... snarf.....

ED-E is a god send.

I really do have to live as a survivor, food and water make me happy when I find, them, sometimes I'll see an enemy in the distance (thanks to ED-E telling me where to zoom) and I might avoid that fight for 2 reasons:

1. I might get my ass handed to me
2. I should conserve my ammo

Very very fun!

ED-E is. I just finished the game but I am going to load a save I done before I killed Mr. House with my attempt to take Vegas for myself. But before I ended the game I had ED-E carry vital stuff. Such as the equipment to mass purify dirty water for instance. Or the equipment to refill empty needles to turn them into stimpacks. He does come in handy as a pack mule like that allowing you to keep your inventory open to salvage stuff to sell while ED-E carries what you always need.

I wouldnt say 6,000 caps is too much money. Have you checked out the gun runners shop, half their weapons are 1k+ in cost. Hell their avg body armor there is right at 2k caps on avg.

FO3 had you able to get alot of money that you just couldnt spend. Last play through I had close to 300,000 caps and wasnt even spending them. I was selling Enclave and BoS power armor and weapons I looted from dead bodies to make all that.

The most money I made in New Vegas was when I massacred the gun runners shop and sold the repaired body armor and helmets to the protectron.

I had about 15K in caps last night when I went shopping at Gun Runners. Getting caps is easy. It's just a matter of collecting EVERYTHING and selling it all. Make sure to use your companions as pack mules, although it svcks that they can't carry anything they can't use (they drop faction armour and power armour). As for the difficultly level, I think it's pretty good (I play normal/hardcare). I'm level 24 and the Deathclaws can still kill me if they get up close.

FNV puts hard enemies in areas they don't want you to go to yet. The theory being that you won't venture into them until you can safely fight those creatures. Giant radscorpions and high level gangs drop a pretty good hint that you shouldn't really be wandering north from goodsprings yet.

I like the added difficulty. I felt way too powerful in Fallout 3. I was never afraid to tackle any obstacle. New Vegas keeps me modest. I avoid certain areas like Quarry Junction and Black Mountain because those areas are too hard for me.

There are things that you need to learn. Don't kill Deathclaws by yourself or that bug that kills you in two hits.

The Op is proof how sad most gamers are today. This game hard? LMAO, play demons souls, or Stalker on PC, No games today are hard except a rare few. Too many games are designed for any 2 year old to pick up and play, and just made for a quick play through. This game is not hard at all. Games are way too dumbed down and easy as it is.

QFT, Demon Souls is one of the hardest games I've ever played, which is also why it's probably in my top 5 most loved games. Monster Hunter tri was pretty hard too

Giant radscorpians are imo a good balance it's mostly their DT that keeps them alive even a early character with a good weapon can go one on one with them back peddling imo..
It's the fact that bullet sponge's are back that's made me a bit gnarly, I got in a fight with some homing pigeon of a CL assassin group the leader of which took way more hits than I could take at twice his level.
My guns AP was high enough to get through without special ammo, but still it was like throwing sticks at him, that and running into reavers while sneaking a way off only to be auto spotted and run down.

So my point is the game is tactically challanging as it should be, but the one point everyone made on this forum way before release is that bullet sponge's are not needed at all.

QFT, (playing very hard/ hc) I ran into my first legion assassins last night and OMG, that was hard as [censored]! Especially since i'm on hardcoe, and they showed up immediately after I had been through a large battle and was low on health. Thankfully I had saved after the first battle so I didn't have to redo that as well! Took me like 15 tries to get through the bastards!

I couldn't be more happy

Are you referring to the ones that come right after you do the little rescue mission? (vagueness intended to avoid spoilers) OMG! They were a b#$%!

DeathClaws are Okay until you find them in packs...which I think is pretty stupid consider many powerful predators are solitary .

seriously, im playin on freakin Very Easy and get my ass mauled by anything from death claws to small bugs and children with a dirt clump. so either:
A) This game is horribly unbalenced against the player
B) This game is horribly unbalenced against the player becuase obsidian likes to laugh at us
C) My experience playing Fallout 3 on Very Hard along with a multitude of other games on hard settings means nothing and i am still a newb
D) We should worship obsidian for releasing a awsomly balenced game and laugh at the newb that is complaining
what do you all think?

The game is not balanced in terms of levels. If you're level 1 and trying to take on a death claw that's a level 30 even on very easy mode you are going to be ripped into tiny tiny pieces. Follow the main story line until you get to Vegas and that should give you enough levels to start branching out into new area's with harder enemies. At very easy: Enemy's do 50% damage and you do 200%. On very hard those numbers are reversed. That coupled with the level imbalance = good luck!

I think the problem is this:

The newer Fallout fans (like me) have had Fallout 3 as their first Fallout game ever. In that game, everything leveled with you (or had a set level and were easy once you surpassed theirs).

In New Vegas, it's not like that. The whole point of Fallout is surviving, which means you have to actually think rather than charge down there like you're the lovechild of Rambo and the Terminator and are on steroids. Don't be an idiot.

If you see an enemy that you have no hopes of beating, you RUN! Turn right around and get the hell out of there. Conserve any and all weapons and ammo. Get a companion so you're not fighting alone.

I agree with Shadow. Just do the main quest until you actually enter Vegas. Then you'll probably be strong enough to handle some enemies.

I haven't died yet. Only thing that's almost killed me is hidden mines. *shakes fist* Account for almost all the times my char has been crippled. I attempted to kill the Deathclaw wandering outside the quarry at level 7, and I limped away from that with two legs and my torso crippled, and next to no health. I took the hint and only explored around the areas with creatures and people I could handle.

Having my ass handed to me from time to time and loving every minute of it...

Playing hardcoe mode on hard level, a little strategy goes a long way. NV is also actually forcing me to consume resources to win...love it
