Ive played hard games before, but this?

Post » Tue Nov 09, 2010 9:07 am

Well, my friend, this game isnt Call of Duty MW, it actually requires SKILL, and a little bit of THINKING to play. And I'm guessing if your geting mauled by deathclaws on very easy then you decided to go hunting them at a low level, bad move, bad, bad move.

I'm playing on hardcoe mode switching from normal to hard, really the only problems I've had are with mines and the Demonic butterflys (Cazadors). Using guns, melee, and sneak as my main combat tools.

You guys want to play something REALLY hard? Pick up the original 6 mega mans, I have still, after more than a decade mind you, not been able to beat 1, 2, and 3.

Fallout 3 was my first Fallout game. I’m playing F: NV on Normal Difficulty and finding the game harder, more challenging and more fun.

When not swearing, I find myself saying aloud to my pc monitor : “Well, we won’t be getting there this way” and “Yeah, maybe we should do this a bit later with better weapons and better perks.”

I’m faring well enough against hostile NPCs if they are not too numerous in a closed space, but am finding the creatures far more difficult (damn wasps). It seems to me that they’re moving much faster, swarming and surrounding me in greater numbers than F3.

Currently, it’s hard enough that I’m enjoying it, but not so hard I want to shut it off.

I ran F03 the first time in Normal and doing the same in NV and feel it may be a bit harder but not over the top. I take my time and try to plan out attacks and just don't run in guns blazing and I have had no issues. I think the challenge is nice, I'm not into the I win button. I kinda like the well placed traps, very creative.

If you are having problems staying alive you are probably using little if no tactics to win.

The game is hard off the beaten track, at least at first.

In that way it's like all the good games, where you can go anywhere, but you're not guaranteed to succeed at everything you try. The Gothic series was great for this, as are the other games people mentioned.

I got my butt handed me early in the game by a bunch of geckos. Then, I reloaded, tried some different stuff, and ended up winning. I think that's the way it should be.

With a sniper, its actually pretty easy in open wide areas... Thats of course before you got spotted by a gang of death claws...

Be careful where you go in the beginning. Get a bit stronger then go back and kick some butt.

This. I was on the Tutorial Quest and on my way to the graveyard I took a small left turn and got mauled by 5 giant scorpions. Varmint Rifles are not good on things with exoskeletons as it turns out.

seriously, im playin on freakin Very Easy and get my ass mauled by anything from death claws to small bugs and children with a dirt clump. so either:
A) This game is horribly unbalenced against the player
B) This game is horribly unbalenced against the player becuase obsidian likes to laugh at us
C) My experience playing Fallout 3 on Very Hard along with a multitude of other games on hard settings means nothing and i am still a newb
D) We should worship obsidian for releasing a awsomly balenced game and laugh at the newb that is complaining
what do you all think?

Id say its a mix of C and D. It all has to do with what your actually doing, the game seems fairly balanced to me. So maybe Im thinking out loud

Definitely tougher than Fallout 3, but there are ways for even casual gamers to succeed against a Deathclaw. Seek out unreachable sniper's nests. Don't be afraid to use your AP or HP ammo - it's there for a reason. Now that enemies have a damage threshold, you have to think critically about which weapon you're using against them. An SMG that obliterated most foes in Fallout 3 is now heavily limited by each individual shot's low DAM output.

I'm actually finding New Vegas much easier than Fallout 3. In F:NV I managed to find decent resources fairly early just following the main quest line, even on hardcoe. In F3 I found it a lot more difficult making the journey to each new location (or just so damn boring with all the subways). I probably just didn't know where to look.

Maybe it's Boone? :P

I found some of the critters like Giant Radscorpions and Death Claws really need someone with the Guns skill and Armour Piercing ammo.

Edit: I just recalled that I picked up Veronica and she uses the Power Fist and destroys things quite handily. (yes, pun intended)

My level two char took on and won against a Radscorpion using her melee skill and a straight razor. Or, maybe it was a machete or tire iron.

Then again, it took a couple tries before it worked.

She's learning to enjoy the taste of humble pie.

This game reintroduces a concept that was common in games pre Oblivion, that is you can't necessarily take on anything you meet out there. In Oblivion-like scaling you can defeat anything you meet, in this game you can't. You can't expect to take on giant rad scorpions at level four (or anything less than ten). You have to be prepared to run away and come back later.

I really like this asect of it. It makes the wasteland feel actually dangerous, and it reminds of of times playing old school games like Gothic when you had to run your ass away a lot of the time, especially in the beginning. Or you use the environment to get the edge on enemies, like engaging scorpions from a burned out house where they can't get you.

But if you're actually getting killed by the little mantis on Very Easy then I don't know what's happening, unless you haven't noticed that you've only got one point of health or something.

It's definitely more challenging than Fallout 3, but that's a good thing, in my opinion. In Fallout 3 (without mods) I could easily be swimming in all the caps, Stimpaks, and ammo I'd ever need by level 10.

If you find the game hard its because you either

1. Have a bad character build.
2. Go to places you shouldnt due to level or weaponry/ammo.
3. Are just bad at games.

Like Fallout 3 the only challenge is at the start. Soon enough you will be swimming in Stimpacks, RadAway, Caps, etc. The game becomes a cakewalk as soon as you get a high end weapon like the Anti-Material Rifle.

Well, my friend, this game isnt Call of Duty MW, it actually requires SKILL, and a little bit of THINKING to play

Apples and oranges. Modern Warfare had a healthy competitive scene for a very long time. Not as large as games like Starcraft and Counter Strike but still. You cant compare playing against people to playing against [censored] AI that you either beat because you had better weapons/armor or died to because you didnt. FNV requires more knowledge than skill to play well.

Not only is it hard enough, but there are less perks in the game. Tbh though I like the challenge though because of how much it makes you strategize before you go into combat. I mean seriously when you finally made your perfect character on Fallout 3 like many people did, you were practically invincible because of the amount of perks and you could max out your SPECIAL and skills. This game will [censored] your very hard if you don't think or have a set strategy on what you want your character to be haha.

Wouldn't say it's very hard but I can't just run into any settlement and decimate everyone there easily like I could in FO3

Playing through the game on Normal/hardcoe as a melee character and throughly enjoying myself. I have wandered off the path, got 2 shot by giant scorpions and feral ghoul reavers (even sneaking they can find you anywhere it seems). If you've played any MMO its nothing you haven't seen before, you poke your nose somewhere you don't belong and you will die! If you are lucky however, well it pays off!

Have just over 30 hours played, approx level 17-18....it really got easier for me once I got Piercing Strikes and Super Slam, really helps in clutch moments with deathclaws and giant scorpions. Add the Hunter and Purifier Perk and I can pretty well one shot deathclaws on a crit, just as much as they can 2-3 shot me! It is definately alot more challenging than Fallout 3, but it rewards patience and tactics.

Before I had to leave for work, took out everyone at Cottonwood Cove with throwing spears and not a single drop of reputation. Was so worthwhile one shotting the leader with a golf club while he sat at his desk. Made a satisfying thump as he flew across the room into the wall!

I'm loving the difficulty and the fact that the enemies aren't levelled. I was pushing ahead too fast with my first play through, scouted too far ahead and came across deathclaws at level 2/3. I think you know what happened there!

I then decided to go on a mad run-for-it through the wasteland before starting again and taking it more slowly. I somehow managed to climb the hill with the satellites on it, ran past a load of super mutants before taking shelter on top of a big dish, shortly after that I was crushed by some nightkins and called it a day on that play through. It was an experience and made me even more motivated for my proper play that I started last night. I know to take things slow, not scout too far ahead, not go looking for trouble otherwise I really will find it. Fallout 3 was great and I did everything there was to do on it but I think NV is gonna be even better :)

btw I'm playing on normal with hardcoe mode on.

This is the exact thing I'm going through. I love the fact of no levelled enemies too. It makes the game SO much better. And with hardcoe mode in early levels makes you think twice what you are going to do next. First time I actually am afraid to face deathclaws....

Bah, all this whining about difficulty.

I'm an ancient (okay 40 year old) gamer that ONLY plays on Very Hard in hardcoe mode, and sometimes that isn't difficult enough! If I don't die at least 20 times in any given gaming night, it was way too easy.

Its all a matter of perspective, if it was super-easy then all the players like me would be the ones whining. As it is, the difficulty is just about right IMHO - a fine balance Obsidian! :goodjob:

If your looking for easy, go play Super Mario Galaxy or on Easy mode.

You need to think about DT!
Make sure you're wearing a decent armour, heck, if you can wear power armour! If you can't, get a Desert Ranger and steal his/her armour!

Yeah, If you head straight from Goodsprings to New Vegas up the Northern routes through the Cazador's or the Deathclaws its hard, especially with a Varmint rifle as your only backup, but otherwise its the right difficulty level in my opinion

Personally i find it to easy,
i'm getting sick of spending 30 - 40 or more gbp on a game just to finish it in just over a day,
these games need to be a hell of a lot bigger and harder,
if they actually made the games worth the cost they would cut down on pirating as well as people would see it as worth the money.
