E) You're a casual.
Fallout requires a bit of thinking, it's an RPG after all. All difficulty does is weaken enemies.

ive died more times on my first playthrough in this game than the 2 years i played FO3. im loving it and i dont even have to wait for a mod to make it difficult. they really did listen to the forumers and kudos to obsidian for an excellent job. now if they can just get a decent looking game engine.

REALLY!!!!!! First people complain FO3 was way to easy (seemed fine to me) and now FNV is too hard(seems fine to me)?????
You can please some of the people some of the time, but you cant please all of the people all of the time. People are just way to picky, you must realize though that they arent making the game specifically for you, its not gonna be tailored to your every need, just deal with it or dont play with it. Im on normal and havent had a single problem with it being out of balance, just dont go where your not supposed to or you will die.

The game is easy if you go West from Goldspings. Also if you can stack up on dynamite you can level from 1 to 7 in a few minutes. I took out like 10 NCR Troopers just tossing dynamite and I was level 2.

I for one am enjoying the increased difficulty compared to Fallout 3. It actually requires you to strategize and use items like meds and the like to help aid you, compared to Fallout 3 where every fight was just "Enter VATS, aim for head, YOU ARE WINRAR!!!"

Also, I love how there are actually bosses in this game. There were absolutely no bosses in Fallout 3 which really disappointed me. Dear god, the fight against the Nightkin Davison was a doozy. I had to use Med-X and Psycho in order to even have a chance (I was at level 5 when I fought him).

The more I play New Vegas, the more I love it. :fallout:

Be careful where you go in the beginning. Get a bit stronger then go back and kick some butt.

good god, i thought fallout 3s dificulty system was perfect. very easy was actualy playable if you wanted pure shootin' fun and very hard was perfect for a true test of skills. example. deathclaw on very easy. dies by assualt rifle, maybe 2 clips max. very hard, experimental MIRV hurts its big toe, and angers it.

It's difficulty was only perfect after about 90 mods. New Vegas will probably take about 20.

So go back when you are a level 25 and try again.

What level creature are you trying to kill?

Yeah. You might want to return back later... :whistling:

Deathclaws are serious business in New Vegas when compared to Fallout 3, and they should be. The Deathclaws in Fallout 3 were a joke, in my opinion, and these feel like the Deathclaws that used to be in Fallout 1 and 2. The feeling being "that's the one thing I don't want to [censored] with."

You do realize what damage threshold does right? it can make a good laser weapon bad. laser weapons are low damage high damage per second. deathclaws are naturally armored. for something with a high DT you need a weapon with high DAM and a low DPS. if your RCW does 8 DAM and its DT is 10, you can pump all the rounds you want into it, but its not gonna hurt it very much. it just sounds like you need to learn the mechanics of the game, not change the difficulty.

the only time where I've experienced extreme difficulty was when I ran into, what seemed like, a breeding ground of death claws, i even had to use stealth boys to get outta there haha.

I think NV is pretty damn cool as well. I like actually fearing going into ruins, and buildings. In F3, you enter and run an gun pretty much. In this, you really have to take in your suroundings, escape routes, cover for the big gun fights.

Absolutly love NV. Love it :fallout:

Get a companion and combat will be much easier. Boone is very strong outdoors. I agree though that Energy Weapons are underpowered and ammo is too rare, at least in the first half of the game. I had 100 in EW and 15 in Guns and still used regular guns mostly.

I would say all of the above, in a way. The game is horribly balanced against noobs. Obsidian, and other noobs, will all laugh at you.

Non-noobs like myself won't laugh at you, but I'd be more than happy to provide tips.
I've been playing on hardcoe Very Hard from the start, and have been doing fine.
My advice:
Prepare yourself before you go out to the wastes. Make sure you have everything you need. If you're low on ammo, go back before you're completely out.
If an enemy is too hard, run away and try a different area. Be smart about your exploration. Constantly be on the lookout for red blips, and use VATS to locate them. If you can't home in with VATS, sneak towards the blips until you can. Even if you aren't good at sneaking this is a good idea, because even if you're discovered before you can get a shot you're still getting the drop on them instead of the other way around. Also, tangling with deathclaws is probably not a good idea until you're really strong.

Something to keep in mind: Fallout 3 was originally only balanced to level 20. At level 30, all the games normal enemies became super easy. The only challenges were the enemies added by the BS expansion, the overlords, albino radscorps, and reavers.

NV has been balanced to level 30 from the start, so expect that tough enemies will be much tougher here.

Get a companion as soon as you can. Boone in Novac is an easy one to get- just do his quest and his rifle is yours, and boy, is it a sweet rifle. (It's not yours, he'll keep it, but he'll pop heads with it if you know what I mean.)

I'm looking forward to playing even more after reading this - I know I'll get whupped constantly, but I bet I'll have fun sneaking and dodging the big beasties until I'm capable of putting up a good fight. This sounds like a much better way to play for me than the "easy" enemies in F:3. In that, the only time I really ran into trouble was when I came across a behemoth on my own at a fairly low level.

So far my strategy has been...
Step 1 : Hear Boone or Ed-E make a sound warning me of enemies
Step 2 : Hide behind a rock
Step 3 : Listen to the carnage
Step 4 : Go loot the bodies.

Seriously, Boone cleared all of Archimedes for me on normal difficulty and didn't break a sweat. He is Cassidy from Fallout 2 reincarnated. If I get him a Gauss rifle I'm worried he'll kill all of Ceasar's Legion AND Chuck Norris in one shot!

New Vegas holds your hand less, thank God. If you can't beat an enemy then either change your tactics (different gun, ammunition, defensive position, companions, etc.) or leave and try again later. I ran into some Deathclaws on my way to Novac early in the game and they slaughtered me with one hit after killing my companion with one hit, and you know what? That was AWESOME. I never felt in danger in Fallout 3, not once. I guess a Deathclaw was kind of hard until level 5 or so, but it was not impossible and it didn't scare the [censored]e out of me. New Vegas can and does, and that is great.
