The teleprompter wasn't working... so he runs away?
Hopefully he's doing Okay, and something bad didn't just happen. But he's not exactly know for having a good personality or being intellectual to begin with.

He was probably paid to just show up, read some lines off the teleprompter with only the vaguest idea of what the presentation was all about, and make it look like it was all completely "spontaneous". When the prompter bailed out, he must have decided that he was free to bail out as well. This is what happens when all public statements, performances and presentations are as tightly scripted and micro-managed from the top down as they are these days.
I expected that to be a bit crazier and wacky, considering Bay's aesthetics.
Oh wow, I can understand not being able to really get as much covered when you've lost your script, but generally when someone has a passion for something they can at least talk about it from memory for a short while. He was just gone within two minutes.
I like to imagine his brain suddenly popped and he realised "Wow, my movies are crap..." followed by a dash to the bathroom to have a little cry.
Ruined my childhood memories by destroying the Transformers franchise and then moving on to pour salt in an open wound by desecrating the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Ah, how I love the compassion and good will of the Community Discussion. It's fine to despise his works, but seems a bit horrible to be a cynical ass and just laugh because of his failing at the conference. I'm no fan of his, but still a little ridiculous to be act like a precious ass over it.
Wasn't really a freak out, maybe he walked off before he actually did freak out.
No, he is a loser and should feel very bad for everything he has ever done...ever.
My thoughts exactly.
And the whole ordeal is so surreal that it seems kind of fake. I mean he must have spoken in front of large audiences so many times in his life. And it's something he's working on/worked on. A bit difficult to believe that he has NOTHING to say about it or has stage fright.
In all seriousness, I hope it was just a momentary brain-fade and not an actual serious condition like Alzheimers or something. I mean, I know that the teleprompter had something to do with it, but it's still a pretty eccentric way of handling it.
Because you despise his works? In your opinion, he is a loser but that does not make it so. I personally find it ridiculous to sit here and see 'I think his movies are bad' as justification for beating the dead horse of 'HIS MOVIES svck! HE'S LIKE UWE BOLL!' and all that jazz. I've seen a lot of people on the internet spewing venomous comments on him and why? Because 'he ruined a good series'. Yet I've also heard others say those movies are great. Like I said, I'm not a fan nor have I bothered watching things like Transformers as it's just not my thing, but to sit here going about as if it's okay to laugh at his failings and not others is a pretty ridiculous double standard. Then again, gamers are the most entitled and hypocritical lot, so it's expected.
At any rate, I agree with Fanner. It's a bit weird that he'd suddenly stumble like this and yet he spends a lot of his time working with others and, I imagine, giving speeches to his crew. I think it's just a publicity stunt to throw in the name 'Samsung' in as many headlines as possible.
I don't think he should feel emberrassed about what happened. Public speaking can be mentally taxing and breaking down on stage is understandable.
Happens to the best of us. I read a while back that Steve Jobs used to practice his speeches weeks in advance to avoid getting nervous on stage, and John Lennon (I think it was John Lennon) used to throw up before every performance.
Well, the Samsung Rep asked him "How do you think the curve screen is going to make your movies look?" or something like that. Bay then looked at the TV, and decided that the curve was not going to make his movies look better, and lost his train of thought.
Probably because nothing would make his movies look any better and he just realized it right then and there. So, what we witnessed was a man who thought his life's work was all that and a cookie, and he found out it was really nothing.
Kind of cringe worthy watching someone hesitate and lose all thought of what they're saying, happened to me a few times, it's horrible heh.
Looks like he wasn't prepared at all though.
Despite how much I hate him, I cannot feel anything but pity for the man. I know how he feels.
I thoroughly enjoyed Armageddon, and both Bad Boys movies as well as Pearl Harbor, The Rock and The Island and well...that's pretty much it. I thought the first Transformers movie was OK. But the second and third were garbage. I've also seen his version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and I found it fairly terrible as well. Coyote Ugly was OK. Everything else I've not seen nor had any desire to see.
I personally feel that everything he's done pretty much post Bad Boys II is just junk. Like he's pretty much forgotten what he's doing and why he makes movies. He thinks everyone wants BEWBZZZ and 'SPLOSIONS and GIANT INDISCERNIBLE ROBOTS and MOAR BEWBZ and 'SPLOSIONS!!!
So his melt down at Samsung's event just shows he's a clueless idiot who needs a box to tell him what to say. The frickin' TV was right there. RIGHT THERE!! You mean he couldn't look at it for a moment and come up with some opinion on it. REALLY? Nothing? Just, "Derp..merp...glllaarrghgghghg...I can't do this."
I'm pretty sure the TV would make his movies look pretty cool and I pretty much HATE everything he's done since 2005. I'm sorry, but his failure IS funny to me. Because any idiot could've looked at the TV and come up with something. Especially someone who is used to being in the spotlight.
I was tempted to say something else, but I decided against it.
The only movies of his I don't like are Transformers, everything else I don't care about. I really liked Pain and Gain though.
He commented later after it. "I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP’s intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down — then I walked off. I guess live shows aren’t my thing."
From his body language and voice tone, I'd say it looks like he had a panic attack. He probably didn't have anything prepared before hand and was going to rely on the teleprompter, he was probably already anxious and nervous (surprisingly enough, many actors and people who are in the limelight often have stagefright) and when the teleprompter failed, he just sort of blanked out.
I'm a pretty decent public speaker, having given a couple fairly lengthy talks to a few hundred people, and even still this sort of thing happens to me on a rare occasion. Even if I know what I'm going to say and have practiced it thoroughly. You just sort of blank out. [censored] happens. Sometimes you can recover from it and play it off, sometimes you can't and you're brain just "shuts down". Its hard to explain if you've never experienced it personally. I've known public speakers who have had exactly this sort of thing happen, where they just sort of ruin the speech right then and there.
I'm sure of course, that that Bay is "just an idiot." Right. Because you don't like his directing, he's an idiot. I'm sure you've never ever had a moment similar to this right? Giving presentations in front of the class in grade school or something?
1. Being in the spotlight means nothing. Harrison Ford, for instance, still has stage fright and social anxiety. Its clearly apparent whenever you watch him on a live TV show or something. He mumbles alot and looks uncomfortable. Many actors say they never get over the anxiety of talking in front of people. They just learn to deal with it very well. Bay isn't an actor, he's a director as well.
2. Get over yourself. Ad libbing something live when you are nervous and not expecting to is not an easy thing to do. And sometimes leads to situations like this. Even the simplest of questions can throw you off.
I'm not a fan of Micheal Bay by any means, but Christ, some of the comments people are making about him here are just cringe worthy. He had a panic attack and [censored] up. I thoroughly hope the people saying these sorts of things screw up badly the next time they had to give any sort of public speech or talk in front of people. Reap what you sow.
You rang? I think Bay got what he deserved to be honest. I don't wish the guy ill will, like wanting him to have medical problems, but running off stage due to stage fright I'm going to laugh at.
