Jack Bauer 24's IGN news thread

It looks pretty interesting. I hope it's a prequel story instead of being set during the same time as the books/TV show. It could help expand upon the lore and history of the world that way. Plus I just think it would be more interesting.

Not really.

There should be a wave/horde mode that is unlocked upon beating the game where you have to survive waves of Joffreys

I dunno if you read the books, but doing it in the style of TWD is perfect. Yeah there's action in ASoIaF but it's more about dialogue and character interaction, which would make Telltales system perfect for getting across the intricate personal politics of the books, like it did with TWD.

I was just thinking of a scenario for the game, if some part of the story involved your character being part of a failed rebellion, imagine how great it would be if you had to choose one your characters children as a hostage to the throne as part of the peace agreement afterwards. Just like TWD, this game could have tons of potential for tough decisions.

Not really surprising, I mean, it's more powerful hardware after all. The Xbox 360 and PS3 did the exact same thing back when they were released too, but PC kept running more and more ahead as the years went by.

Well it will obviously close the gap, for now. But there are already computers a lot more powerful than the PS4 and Xbox One. Its not going to take long for the next generation to be outdated again. I say 2015 at the latest.

Now if they do something they've never done before, like release new PS4's/Xbox One's with new(better) hardware every couple years, that could make a difference.

It's not so much that I think HURR DURR PC GAMING ELITE, but the consoles did a pretty garbage job with keeping up. The PS3/Xbox 360 cycle was absolutely unnecessarily long. When you have a new game like Skyrim come out that stutters at 30fps, poor texture quality, and moderately long loading times, it's pretty damn clear that the cycle has overstayed its welcome. Hopefully they take the cycle time down a notch (Like at least half). I don't expect them to ever go on par with PC gaming, because come on.. they're trying to run a 400-500$ price. You cannot buy a gaming PC for that. It's not surprising that they underperform when put up against a decent gaming PC. Still, they don't try very hard.

Closes the gap is a relative term. Unless the X Box 1 was a step down from the 360 it would inevitably 'close the gap'. Doesn't mean consoles have caught up (ie closed the gap completely) or that they in any way will keep up, or even intend to keep up. Consoles provide a static platform. That's their purpose.

My son plays Skyrim on PS3 and on a moderately priced laptop...where it runs vastly better and looks vastly better. I think 'you can't buy a gaming PC for that' is actually a console manufacturer's PR stance more than a fact. You can't get a cutting edge gaming PC for that, but getting a PC that is better than a comparably priced console is probably possible.

I agree. I got a moderate laptop from a year ago (like 500 bucks, so nothing special) and it runs Skyrim better then my 360 or my ps3.

Now my room mate has a 3200 dollar alienware laptop from 2 and a half years ago, and that thing is better then the ps4 and Xbox 1 (and if you spent 3200 dollars on a computer that you built yourself, that thing would be like twice as good as the alienware laptop counterpart).

The only thing consoles really got going for them is that they are cheap, easy to use, everything's streamlined and you dont have to be a computer wiz to use them. They're basically there for the suburban family for everyone to use on occasion (especially the xbox1, which really isnt even much of a gaming system anymore as it is an entertainment system for the kids and the parents to both use).

It was part of the recent Community Tech Thread where somebody was looking for a prebuilt gaming rig for roughly that price. So we tried to find one.

Defron stated: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1476405-the-community-tech-thread-no-132/?p=23152005

Also I'm talking about the new generation now. A 400-500$ rig that could perform as well as the new consoles doesn't exist. The old ones are valued far less now.

The Xbox One has really closed the gap, release games that are below 1080p speak volumes about it's power.

My hardware is from the last year (3570k + 7870 1Ghz + 8GB DDR3-1600MHz) and it beats the living hell out of next-gen consoles. The only advantage they've got is that they're made to play and games are optimized better.

I've seen BF4 on PS4 lagging with OP: Locker, because there were a lot of people in one room just throwing explosives again and again. It happens to me every day with even more people and more explosives and on one of the best settings I get 0 LAG.

I compare with PS4 because it has the better hardware.

Playing GTA V on 360 tortures me, that game can be REALLY beautiful on PC.

Well, there okay for the time being, same as a few years ago. I believe a read an article about some of the higher-ups in gaming saying that this console generation would be much shorter, so I guess will see.

I believe the original Xbox ran for 5 years, PS2 ran for about 4-6, but hell, they we're making new games for it up until last year. So, I wouldn't find it strange if we see them go back to this model.

Yo.

Also, if you look further down the thread, they actually do find an okay desktop. Sooo, yeah. Nothing that's super-fantastical, but it could work.

I got my PC for $600 CDN (including shipping) which is about $550 USD, and it has run everything I've thrown at it at least on medium settings, so I'd say it's possible if I spent $100 dollars less that I could've still run many games on low settings

And the $100 extra dollars over a console is easily made up in the larger amount of games that can be bought for less.

Pretty much. Those who talk about consoles ever being as good as PC's are talking out of their [censored]. PC hardware will always be vastly superior to console hardware. Hell, for all this talk about how powerful the PS4 and Xbox One are, they're just medium powered PCs in a styled case with a restrictive OS and UI.

People always talk about the "next gen", technically speaking PC's are always at least one generation ahead of consoles, and they always will be.

Except that Skyrim is played on the 360, not the Xbox1, so unless you payed £130/$180 for your laptop: no, you cannot buy a gaming PC for the same price.

Hah, at first i thought that they actually released GTA V on PC, and you somehow didnt have a gaming PC. My hopes went up for a moment but crashed straight down like a roller coaster :(

Again, that's current gen games. Essentially run on low settings by something worth about 150-200$ now.

I feel like I'm trying very hard to defend something I really don't like. I hate consoles.

Thank you, somebody gets it. This is what I've been trying to say. Everybody keeps getting the generations mixed up.

Probably because PC gamers don't keep up much with console news, so the rather underwhelming and low key release of the PS4 and Xbox1 is easy to forget has happened.

I mean personally, I don't have any idea what the PS4 looks like, or what games are on either console. I do know the X1 looks like a VCR, but even that might have changed now.

edit: looked up PS4. Apparently the design ethos for this generation will be "BRICK".
