Jack Cabot dropped a expansion hint?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:48 pm

SPOILERS: You have been warned.

Still here? Are you sure you wanna know?

Okay you were given fair warning..

I just got done doing the Jack Cabot quest and obtained the rare weapon that was tied to his father who gained a psionic weapon that drove him insane. Now after the quest Jack gives a hint of a city under the Mojave desert( yes a New Vegas nod) of an hidden alien city there. Now I am not going to make any speculation, but I think it would be cool knowing Bethesda just dropped this sweet little nugget giving us an oppurtunity to return not only to the Mojave, but to go up against this time an entire city full aliens and not just a ship.

Oh, I so hope this is a DLC!

I'd love to spend more time with Jack and go back to the Mojave.

But what about the alternative ending?

If you side with Lorenzo, Jack doesn't survive to give you this bit of exposition.

Or so the notes say, I went with the Jack version because well, Lorenzo is a murderous psychopath with a superiority complex!

And the aliens were fun to fight.

Plus, I'd love to get my hands on as much alien tech as I can score!

Yes, I know there is one in the game somewhere, but as the crash has not happened, I guess I'm not getting to "5 finger discount" his weapon.

I hope it's better than Mothership Zeta. That was just a chore to play.

I admit I loved the story of zeta but not the gameplay, I started it near the end of a session and thus just wanted to finish it, I ended up not enjoying it and getting a headache :C

that said I would love a more scary themed alien encounter, as their radio broadcast was quite creepy.

maybe something like a medium sized ship that we will be able to explore a little has crashed in a large barn and the aliens have started capturing and killing the locals while scavenging parts to fix it. and include a dunwich theme.

Also, the "aliens" Jack is referring to are Aliens in the Lovecraftian sense. Cosmic entities, as Jack clarifies. Considering the Secret of Cabot House is another one of Bethesda's Lovecraft homages.

Think less "Little Green men" and more "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yog-Sothoth."

People hated Zeta, and sure, I don't believe in aliens, but I thought it was a fun, semi-lighthearted break from the more depressing landscape of the wastes, so honestly a DLC like this wouldn't hear any complaints for me as long as they don't spend too much time on it and not enough on more serious DLC. :)

He just mentioned a city of aliens where the arifact that was on his father's head I am guessing originated. Besides it would be silly to just use one alien crash in order to get the pistol( deja vu) without it leading to another encounter with their race.

No ALIEN FREAKS please.

Last thing I want to see when playing Fallout is a story and combat centered directly around ALIEN FREAKS.

Even if they are https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yog-Sothoth "ALIEN FREAKS" instead of the 50s B movie kind?

Yeah. I'm cool with them being an easter egg or small side mission, but a whole DLC dedicated to them is too much.

There's other human aspects of the world that need to be explored.

The DLCs from Fallout 3 I enjoyed the most were in this order:

1): Operation Anchorage (would prefer to see more of the "prewar" timeframe)

2): Broken Steel

3): The Pitt

4): Point Lookout

5): Mothership Zeta: (Playing through that was fun the first time and a headache the rest)

I say this because if it is an "alien" city...I hope and pray to God that it is better handled than Mothership Zeta :(

No, he also pointed out that the aliens weren't like "ET's or UFO's". Which rules out the Zetan's who are your typical little green men.

And again, the city is a clear reference to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%27lyeh. (R'lyeh and the city of the Elder Things)

Indeed, it is clearly a Lovecraftian homage, that's why it was discovered in the late 1800s rather than anytime before the war. Because that's the Lovecraft era. Nobody describes alien technology as artefacts and the helmet isn't injecting him with some chemical that makes him live forever, it just does it through magic, because it's not technology but Cthulhu-esque mysticism.

Also it's not under the Mojave, it's somewhere in the Middle East.

No please no. If he is confusing aliens with the tech at Big Mountain from Old World Blues then sure I wouldn't mind a DLC in the Mojave. But I doubt it since The Courier is still in the Mojave and you can't really go back without setting a canon NV ending.

I wouldn't mind a bit more to do with the aliens tbh, nothing over-the-top though.

FO3 Had Zeta, NV had Old World Blues, No harm in FO4 having a light-hearted DLC too.

I wouldn't exactly call the Zetans lighthearted.

Their biological anolysis section was a chamber of horrors.

I think the memory of what I saw there is permanently burned into my brain.

Multiple references are made to the west (which surprised me). So I doubt that has anything to do with anything.

They mention the Hub, the NCR, the Shi, etc.

I can't see an expansion for a Fallout that is set in Boston being taking place in a completely different part of America. Space maybe as the bridge to there in directly up, or in the Atlantic Ocean mayne as it is bridged directly through water. But not across land and into a completely different region. That would be for a Fallout set in that particular region. That's my thoughts on how Bethesda prefer expansions. They keep episodes in the series to a particular region and save other regions for future episodes.

Yes, but specific mention of the Mojave is what is relevant. We "just" had a game set in that place. And now that info bomb drop. If Bethesda or Obsidian or whoever is going to continue that plot, we should expect a new game, not expansion.

won't be a DLC, since you're not going to be looking for your son then suddenly travel halfway across America to investigate some "alien ruins". That's stupid, frankly.

What it DOES is add to the Lore that there are buried ancient Lovecraftian cities buried in this world. And if a future game takes place in the Mojave (gods I hope not) there is a possible story option for it to include.

It's a fun easter-egg, but don't think too much into it.

(besides, Obsidian peeps said they'd like to do New Orleans or Los Angeles. I doubt they would do ANOTHER game in the Mojave. It's been done.)
