Jail Ideas

Post » Sun Aug 22, 2010 1:20 pm

I remember how in Oblivion, going to Prison just meant "Losing a few stats" I mean, yes, that's punishment but not severe enough!
Hanging around in Jail for a whole day would be pretty fun imo, getting to talk to the Prisoners and stuff
Thoughts?

No thank you. Maybe a timer while you're in your cell (counting down in normal TES time, not sped up)? You can let it run out or sleep to speed through it.

I'd like there to be things to actually do while in jail. Certain prisons in certain areas could have interesting cellmates to talk to, maybe a quest in one of them, then talking to a guard as he comes and brings you food, things like that.

But you should also be able to just sleep through it and rush things along. With a high enough bounty, you could be looking at weeks in jail. If I'm forced to actually sit there and wait, then no thank you.

Yes, it would be neat if you could talk to your fellow cell members with dialogues such as "So.. what you in for?" and if you choose to live the life of a criminal you could become friends and/or partners with the criminal in jail.

Just my two cents. :P

It could be fun to stage a real in depth prison break (more than picking the lock and running outside).
Other than that...meh.

I kind of hope the go more in depth with jail breaks. What was the point of breaking out if the guards are sitting right in front of you when the door opens or you still have to live in the woods because you have a crazy high bounty?

Nope. Food is made into energy and health and magicka. No waste.

At least, that's my theory which I am basing on basically nothing.

Prisoner: Hey......pssssstt.......

Prisoner: Hey....psssst....Hey!

Prisoner: Good I got your attention.

[You wake up in your cell to see another prisoner in a seprate cell peering into your cell]

Prisoner: I was wondering if you could take this message [The prisoner is clutching a a small envelope of parchment] my employer for me, he will pay well, its very eargent!

Adventurer: Wait? what!? What why should I? Who are you? Whose your employer? Why are you trusting me?

Prisoner: Enough questions, and keep it down! {The Prisoner whispers looking around for jail gaurds, then softens his tone], I'm with a very important {Insert group name here}, I'll pobably be here for awhile before I get some of my contacts to get me out, but this message needs to be delivered to {insert location here} as quick as possible before its to late. I hear you have a short sentence so take it, I don't have hardly any other options so what do you say? My employer will tell more of the matter if he trusts you which you may prove his trust if you deliver this to him and lead to better rewards. You will surely be paid wether or not accepted. Oh and don't tried to read the message either, special runes they are and it would be difficult for any one including me to read them, let alone you.

Adventurer: Fine I'll think about it.

Prisoner: Better than any chance I suppose, but please hurry if you decide to...Oh an-

[The Prisoner cuts off as a prison gaurd makes his rounds, goes to the prisoner's cell and yells him to remain silent]

Gaurd: [Looks at you] You come with me, your being release. Criminal scum.......[he huffs]

[You are lead out before you leave the Prisoner with lightening reflexes, silently folds the envelope into your hand, You quickly tighten it beneath your sack pants against your rope belt due to the lack of pockets.]

Will you deliver the message or not to seek the promised rewards and meet this employer of this unknown group? Or will you read it yourself and try to translate a runic message that many do not understand. Or just throw it in the waste trough?

I think it would be cool for jail to be MUCH tougher, sixual themes, beatings, fights, and tough mini quests in jail.

And I did see this in a earlier but...

Thats impossibel as your jail sentence is longer than one day. 23 dead imperial guards, and I get 230 days in prison.

EDIT: Also in order to escape from prison tehy would have to make the guards not be omniscient, this would also make doing criminal things more fun.

What's impossible? I pretty much said exactly that in my post.

What they wanted me to pay one gold, cause I accidentally picked up apaint brush. It is truly not a fair legal system.

You said that you would have to live out your days in prison (I guess I misunderstood) which would be pretty boring because my current character has spent like maybe a month on the road, and the rest in prison.

You're screwed... literally. :P

this reminds me, were there any bathrooms in oblivion?

Nope.
even though, they could include those things as part of houses and such.
I mean, they have sewer systems, but no baths or toilets?

Nope. Food is made into energy and health and magicka. No waste.

At least, that's my theory which I am basing on basically nothing.

Yeah, but where are they going to take baths?
I doubt in lakes because they like having privacy also.
Still, even if they don't care about privacy, during winters taking baths in lakes and rivers is not the best idea.
Of course, if they are frozen, then you won't be able to take them at all. :P
Still, I think that they should have toilets and baths.

On topic:
Nah, current punishment is enough.
Permanent loss of some of your skills can be pretty annoying and was enough to keep me away from the prison.

(I never ever went to jail in Oblivion. I always just reloaded my game because I didn't see any point to going there, and thus never had that experience.... so I had some thoughts about what might make me change my mind about jail in future games....)

What about a few semi-tedious jobs with some real "potential" benefits?

Like chopping wood for the city you wronged? You have to peform a certain amount of labor for the prison (oh, not too much but maybe 10-20 real minutes of labor playing a mini-game) and yet if you do it well, you can work on your Strength stat. The harder you work, the more likely you can get a strength point gain. So while being in prison would be tedious (as it should be) it wouldn't be without purpose, or a promise of gain. I mean if you were actually chopping wood in prison, you would get strong after all. So it would make being in prison another way to advance your character, maybe not as fun a way as being free is, chasing down monsters and loot, but a way to advance yourself nonetheless.

Other jobs (for various other character classes) would be:

1) making potions for the "state" ... using alchemy skills from a variety of state-owned herbs you could work with but not own. Your alchemy skill goes up while you're creating these spells. You may even get 1-2 new recipies to add to your book. So when you're arrested in town and have to think about either reloading your game so you don't get arrested, or actually going to prison, you may decide to take the risk (of boredom) for the hope of 1-2 new recipies, and thus you'll actually go to jail and experience that part of the game because there is a chance of some gain in it. Not that it will happen every time, but it COULD...

2) writing letters for stupid convicts ... the more you write letters, the better your chance of improving your Intelligence stat.... and Radiant Story could remember those that you've helped and they could become your allies when they got "out" and throw a few random stories your way to further help that player. And if you DIDN'T help someone, they might remember that too... when they got out (queue the scary music)....

3) blacksmithing ... build swords, work the forge, learn smelting, and various skills, and a chance to improve your strength..... maybe later after you kill an enemy in a nearby dungeon, you pick up the sword they used against you only to find your own signature on it! Ahahahaha!

4) teach young or stupid convicts new skills for survival after release.... like Archery, Sword Fighting, or other such things. No immediate rewards perhaps, but you do create some life-long friends that Radiant Story will later use to offer you some jobs (via your friend) which can help you to make some good money (as a reward for your kindness to them in jail.)

Would make going to prison a risk that just might pan out in the long run, even if its a bit tedious to go there.

That's going to be a problem, sir.

And I don't want this interactive prison... I don't think it will appeal to casual gamers ethier.
