Born in the Jefferson Memorial on July 13 in 2258, Jake is the only child and son of Project Purity head scientists James and Catherine. When his wife died from childbirth complications, James undertook the role as a single father and left to Vault 101, where no one ever enters and no one ever leaves, to take refuge for him and his infant son.
Growing up, Jake became best friends with Overseer Alphonse Almodovar's only daughter Amata, worse enemy (eventually "real pal") with Butch and the apple in James' eye. He took an interest in science and medicine and learns how to resolve disputes without violence and developed a sense of responsibility and goodwill from his father.
But when his father left Vault 101, Jake followed in his footsteps and escaped the Vault with the help of Butch and Amata and the other residents. But when he went past the steel door of the Vault, he saw the radioactive ruins of Washington D.C., the Capital Wasteland. Now, Jake must make friends, face enemies and survive to learn his father's reasons for leaving the Vault and his secret work: Project Purity.
