Jasmine, a Morrowind companion

Updated to 2.1b:

2.1b
Fixed the book rotating system.
Fixed the sheathed version of Deandre's scimitar.
Added dialog for the Dark Brotherhood attacks and hunt.

I want to appologize to Candesco for the issues (s)he was having with the mod and the book rotate scripts. It seems that when I put those in, I failed to notice that there was a global variable that had to be set. :whistle:

Approved ;) Well, i'm glad there is a fix now and i hope my problems are over. It felt as like in the movie groundhog day (where bill murray is living the same day over and over again)

That's one way. Of course you could always bribe her or raise your personality trait. I added the part you mentioned in because it seemed logical. :) Oh, if you puruse her romance quest line, her disposition should go up as well. Also, if you're in the Legion, you'll get minor bumps depending on how you complete certain quests.

Alas, romance is out of the question, since I'm currently running a female character. But I've bribed up her regard for my PC, and that doesn't introduce new subjects for discussion. Nor does a disposition of 100 allow her to discuss her family, since she still doesn't trust my character enough. It seems disposition doesn't really affect her very much. You might want to consider putting in a fluff discussion category or two, ones that fill out her background, that can only be affected by disposition, and in no other way affect the progression of the mod. Perhaps something along the lines of more detailed discussion of her past, or what she likes doing when she isn't killing things.

I think you missed my last post. :) I bribed her up to a disposition of 100, and found she had no more to offer in the way of discussion than she had, before. So I made suggestions for adding a few topics that might "reward" the player who works at making Jasmine more friendly.

Yes, I agree--but I'm suggesting that you get nothing for raising her disposition, and that it might be useful to include some minor rewards for doing so. :D

I did do that, but it's based off of global reputation I think. It's been so long since I've dealt with that aspect of the mod that I'm not entirely sure. :unsure: I'll keep the suggestion in mind, though.

[edit]: I just checked and she *should* give you more details on her family after you've gained a global reputation of at least 3. Let me know if she doesn't, but I can't see any reason why she wouldn't unless I set that wrong.

I will check that. At the moment i have no reputation at this moment :P I do have raised the disposition of Jasmine. It's now 65.
I know that Personality also is from influence on the disposition. Everytime your personality raises the disposition also raises slightly. Not much though. If i'm not mistaken it raises by 2 when you raise personality with the full 5 and 1 if lesser.

Update:

Thanks to Elaura, I have been going thorugh and fixing a number of persistent spelling and grammar issues. There's over 100 pages of dialog to sift through, so it may be a bit before I'm able to upload the next version. I aslo added an option to Jasmine to have her wait outside her house for you and I'm staring work on another companion soon and will try to have both of these integrated. They'll be seperate mods, but I'm going to try to see if each'll know the other is following.

Added some compatibility features for a forth coming companion.

Haven't checked this thread for a while and because i started over again i check the mods i use if they have an update. Seems there is one :)
Off to download. And do i read that right; a new companion? Looking forward to it.
Does that send her to home affect the option where's jasmine?
I found out with that reputation thing. The reputation in the world does count, the disposition lesser.
So if you have some global reputation points (not faction reputation), then jasmine will tell you more.
Now you can obtain some reputation points quite quickly in and around balmora and also some in vivec. Something with a magistrate that's on the take, a dead house hlaalu member, an orc practising dark arts, play spy and dead ordinators in vivec.

I'm now off to get the update. At this moment i use jasmine next to a couple of others. it's nice that jasmine can handle a bow, i use that option in the beginning. Once i have constance in the party i switch jasmine to melee.

Asking Elone where Jasmine is will send her back to her house, I just added an option to send her there by talking to her. The new companion will be awhile before it's ready because of other things I'm dealing with.

Hey, Jac.

I do not usually post on this forum, but I did download your most recent (12/2/2009) version of this mod (ver 2.2) and played it for an hour or so, and noted the following:

1. Jasmine (while, oh, so beautiful) will not follow the Player to Mournhold. (Granted, the MW/Trib "standard" transport is via script, associated with "Asciene Rane" in Ebonheart, and that is always a problem with companions.) Note that I tested Jasmine with Silt Strider, Boat, and Mage Guild Guide transport, and had no problems. Nevetheless, in this day and age, it is unacceptable for a companion not to follow the player through all MW/Trib/BM "standard" transport options (yes, mod-specific (and particularly, scripted) transport is a different situation entirely. But standard stuff, particularly when she has specific dialogue regarding "Dark Brotherhood Attacks", etc. is a problem).

Interestingly, the first time I tried going to Mournhold, we also had in the party "mel-Comes_By_Road" (an Argonian healer, with a script also by Melian), who arrived in Mournhold as expected, without any problem. Nor have any of my other (I love companions, and use lots, both "standalone" (e.g., Julan, Morganna) and "generic" (e.g., MCA, Emma/Grumpy-script).

2. In the course of finding "Comes_By_Road", my player and Jasmine came across "Jims House" on the way from Vivec to Ebonheart. Although my player was not of sufficient "Reputation" to get Jasmine to talk about her family, we nevertheless entered and had some discussion (nothig particularly significant) with her father, mother, and brother.
If, as seems to be the author's design, you do not wish to have the player access Jasmine's family until certain conditions have been met, you may want to put some kind of "blockage" on the door to Jims House to prevent access until conditions are right (just a suggestion).

3. I, also, have encountered the situation (mentioned previously on this thread) where Jasmine continues to pepper enemies with arrows, even if they are within 2 ft of her. The MW engine would not allow this if it were the Player.

4. Despite this being v.2.2, there are still Dialogue errors (e.g., "&PCName" showing up when it should be "%PCName", or "^PCName").

5. After reading some of the other posts pn this thread, I tried to raise Jasmine's disposition by talking to Elone (in Arille's Tradehouse, Seyda Neen). Stupidly, I clicked on the "Where Is Jasmine" topic, and (even though she was standing right there) she got sent back to her house. Please!!! To avoid having to go after her, could you please filter the dialogue topics to remove this from Elone when Jasmine is in the same cell?

6. In this day and age, given the vagaries of the MW engine, it seems unreasonable to me to have to wait until my Player has "Reputation=3" to have access to something that will retrieve Jasmine when she gets lost (as can happen regularly, without intent). By all means, keep the "telepathy ring", but at least warn the end-user, via the "readme", that she will not teleport to Mournhold without the thing, and the Player cannot recover her (in some instances) without it, and it will only be "bestowed" when Player Reputation => 3.

Since the author (you, Jac) indicated earlier in this thread that you are still working on this, and may revise it further, I offer these comments constructively, so you may be aware of what some end-users have encountered and may address them (or not) as you choose.

This seems like a good mod with a lot of potential. I look forward to the next release.

#1. Yes, you need to use her ring to get to Mournhold. I'll add in a dialog function to have her meet you there as well. I'm hesitant to change her scripting because adding to it could cause her to reset.

#2. She has no problem with you meeting her family, it's her back story that she's hesitant to talk about unless she knows you better (the reputation requirement). Talking to her family isn't necessary and won't break her story; they're just there for background. :)

#3. Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about the engine not switching properly between ranged and melee. It seems geared towards actors attacking the player, not attacking each other so it doesn't keep track of how far they are apart. If anybody has any suggestions on how to fix that, I'd like to hear them.

#4. Can you provide me with those errors? There are over a thousand lines of dialog, so I know there are little errors like that that have slipped through. Thanks.

#5. The only way to do that is to set a variable whenever Jasmine is in that particular cell. I could do it, but I'll have to think about it.

#6. I thought I mentioned the fact that she won't give the ring until your global rep is 3 or greater, which is why I have the option to talk to Elone about it. I'll note that in the update. Thanks for pointing that out.

I have no issues with updating the mod when fixing bugs, adding features that make it easier to use or fixing dialog issues and I welcome any such reports because I no longer play the mod due to a personal change in my life. Still, please submit them and I'll fix them as needed and give the proper credit. Thanks again.

Found a little dialog error when talking to Deandre about recovering some books. After getting the first book from Surane (as in this quest) once when you take the book to deandre and greet him Jasmine says "we better have to tell him &PCName" instead of the character's name. I use the latest version, version 2.2. In 2.1 and before i never encountered this.

Thanks. Those errors are hard to find because they don't export with the rest of the dialog. I'll fix that in the next update.

Ok. When i cross some new errors i post them here.

And about companions teleport to Mournhold: normally you can't teleport your companions with you when talking to Asciene Rane.
Only you can use that option. Now Baratheon79 has made a little mod called Mournhold Teleportation Fix. This "fix" let's you teleport all your companions that are with you to Mournhold.
The mod from Baratheon79 adds a travel option to both Asciene Rane and Effe-Tei, which works like the guild guide from the mages guild.

I think that both "Candesco", and I, are in agreement with your expressed desire to have Jasmine "...be the best that [you] can make her"..., so I apologize if some of my previous comments may have translated to posts that may appear as negative or condescending. That was never my intent.

(My own in-game "avatar" is a male Redguard, incidentally, and he has been bombarding me with requests to make Jasmine available in-game [and to add her relevant head/hair options to my current "Cello-LAL" files, but...nevermind that. Ah, to be young and adventurous again...])

So far, in my own game, I have added an alternative Dialogue Response for Elone, when Jasmine is in the same cell: -- ("Where is Jasmine??? Why, she's right behind you"), as an alternative to the, "She's at her house..." standard response (now triggered when she is NOT in the same cell). Simple fix, and adds to the story/immersion/whatever.

Again (in no small part because of my in-game avatar's urging) I ported over some of the lines from Melian's "Comes_By_Road" companion script to Jasmine's, but the suggestions by "Candesco" are also an option. Really depends upon your concept of this mod, and where you want to go with it. Your choice, in the end.

As always, expect "end-users" to modify whatever you produce to fit their own view of the MW universe, whatever that may be (and, that is one of the beauties of this game, after all).

@Candesco: It took me a while, but I found and fixed that greeting for Deandre. It should show up properly now.

@Daroot: I added in the ability to send Jasmine to Mournhold via her dialog, but I'll need to test it before I feel comfortable uploading the next update. Also, how did you set it up so that Elone knows Jasmine's in the same cell? I may see about implementing that in the next update. Thanks.
