Jeremy Soule

*gasp* - it's a forum, as long as people are respectful and decently civil toward each other, they can debate matters of sheer opinion. Go figure - that happens on the internet! :ahhh:
If you would like to discuss the topic at hand, great, if all you want to do is make off-topic snippy posts, move on to a topic you are interested in. :)

I think they were just reffering to the people debating their opinion as if it were fact and more valid than other people's, as suggested by their last couple of words there.

I hate Soule's music with a burning passion (mainly because it, rather ironically, lacks soul - there's no real emotion in his pieces, and they all just sound like he's aiming for "high fantasy" rather than like he's aiming for a suitable, specific piece), but there's really not much chance that Bethesda's going to use anyone else. He's not especially expensive compared to some of the other composers in the business and he's what their fans are used to.

I agree, but must add that the only memorable song is Nerevar Rising, and that was a brilliant theme. The rest really didn't add much to the atmosphere (hence my Daggerfall soundtrack as a replacement).

Agreed. Soule is really over-rated. TESIII's music was really nice, I'll give him that. TESIV - when I played the opening, my brother asked me - "What is that, a Pirates of the Caribbean game?"

There are plenty of other awesome composers out there, I don't know why Bethesda keeps going back to Soule like a dog going back to lick its vomit. Thanks for that imagery :P

But, hey, if you want LotR generic fantasy, Soule's probably the right guy for the job.

Would either one of you care to enlighten me to alternatives? My Knowledge of contemporary composers is very limited.

The first name that came to mind when hearing the Skyrim teaser was, Basil Poledouris (i.e. Conan the Barbarian).

Well I guess it's a matter of personal taste. I think Jeremy Soule is a fantastic composer and lots of his music are masterpieces compositionally. No offense but your brother is an idiot(is that really necessary?). Oblivion is fantasy..so ditto he is the best man for the job.

Yes. It's art, so as they say "what moves us". Opinions obviously vary, which is good. Although this does not mean we cannot be civil.

I'd rather get the composer for the (Heroes of) Might & Magic musics for Skyrim and Jemery Soul will only do the main title theme cause he did an awesome job on that one for Morrowind :P

Frozen Highlands : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aX3OSGFdnw

Moonlight snow journey : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZ5XjRBTEpU

Exploring some mad cult temple : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GFe1mZv_aQ

I just can't get enough of those tracks :P I heard there some awesome stuff in Heroes of M&M 4 too.

i just thought i'd jump in here and say I think soule is an absolutely amazing composer, and would be absolutely gutted if they didn't use him. His music really added the icing on the cake for me, and I must say I'm massively suprised that there is such negative feeling towards him here. I actually have alot of his music on my ipod, and find it the perfect accompaniment to walking in the country side and so forth.

i believe most ppl here reacted positively or at least not negatively.... few really seem to oppose his work in a seven page thread.

Regardless, I will be putting my own MP3s into the game. So if they get him again, I could care less.
