Is this just a mistake or Bethesda really is changing a massive story idea that contributed to fallout 2 world as we know it?

I'm assuming they knew about its lore but they had a differing idea for it and how to involve in their spin of the Fallout universe.
I'm sure Myron would be pleased...
Butcher Pete is to meat what Bethesda is to lore.
Where is it stated that Jet is a pre-war drug? That would be a pretty massive screw up on Bethesda's part.
In one of the terminals in Vault-tec Regional HQ Martin's personal log.
Do you know what Jet is?
(Part of the reason Jet is what it is, is because of the post-war environmental situation; they could not grow the plants they would have liked to have.)
The thing about Bethesda's NPCs is that they lie sometimes. Just because an NPC says something it doesn't make it canon. Beth has told us this before.
Well, wrecking the lore is not unexpected, after all Bethesda is the place where
Doubtful they gave it the same name and the same inhaler.
(Or had the same mushrooms for that matter. They might well have been mutant 'shrooms, not unlike the rest of the post-war plant and animal life.
*And by that I do not mean 'talking mushrooms'; though that's kind of fitting for an hallucinogen. )
Jet was local to So-Cal; and any unrelated rediscovery, or pre-discovery of it, should have been a different drug with its own development history, and its own (distinct) characteristics. It's blatant recycling [again] to just reuse the local drug from Fallout 2.
IT could be that while they share a name, they are two different things, made of different stuff (even if they have similar effects)
