Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I tried adding the jetpack mod to a set of power armor but the additional jumping distance didn't seem to be all that much. I couldn't even make it to the roof of the Red Rocket.

Agreed. It's purpose is to make short hops to otherwise-inacessible areas. Areas that Beth added specifically to be accessed by the jetpack.

I was underwhelmed by it. I install medic pumps in my power armor instead. I find them to be quite useful.

if you have max agi and use ultra jet you can get a good 50 feet up.

Yeah, it is pretty pointless.

Yeah, more AP helps. Also, don't do constant burns. Do multiple bursts of thrust to get higher before running out of AP. Also, it is rather handy for moving around the battlefield. Watch this video for some great jetpack usage in combat. http://youtu.be/BENOlymUQqg

Jet fuel gives you jitters.

You should be able to make it to the roof of Red Rocket with reasonably high stats. I haven't personally tried though, so I may be remembering the height wrong.

I think the jet pack is fun. Some people are disappointed by it because they seemingly expected to be flying across the Commonwealth like the Rocketeer or something like that (not saying that's the case for you), but as mentioned, it's really just for boosted jumping.

Jetpack plus the leg mods that augment Slam would be an interesting combo. Wouldn't pair well with Pain Train, but might be something to take a look at.
