JETPACKS: The Power Armored Rocketeer

Post » Sun Mar 20, 2016 5:10 am

So with the overhaul of the new survival mode just around the corner and the addition/restriction of no fast travel, I would love if we could get a new jetpack that allows for a flying power armored wanderer. Maybe up to a couple minutes at a time opposed to the seconds of building to building jumping that we get now. Is this a possibility or is this a restriction due to performance limitations? :vaultboy:

someone uploaded a mod for that to the nexus like 20 minutes ago lol doesn't look like it hurts performance so I think it's possible

Yeah there have been mods to do this for months. Doubt it'll be done officially by Beth. I can't see them changing the mechanic around that much. It'd essentially make any other faction path pale in comparison

Just built my new T-51 Shark jetpack rig last night...

Fun!

First thing I did was pop up on to the roof at the Slog. Been struggling to string electric wires there for a while. No more.

Plus - turrets everywhere, all inaccessible now.

Nice.

The Wiki says - incorrectly - that the jetpack uses your fusion core.

In fact it uses your AP! Which is why the jumps are relatively short...

Therefore if some mechanism could be created which bypasses AP, draining the fusion core directly, certainly one could 'fly around'!

I remember I used to fly all over the place in Morrowind.

Sure beat walking.

AWESOME! Haven't tried the mods yet just because don't wanna ever run into some kind of interference with a Beth patch/DLC but will def mod once it's all said and done. To me, flying would be a very welcome feature with no fast travel being enforced on survival mode which is the only mode to play if you enjoy even the remotest of challenges. Thank you for the responses. Appreciate it. :goodjob:

Jet fuel. Use it to fly a long way.

I would like to see an actual rocketeer man like jet pack for the player. Could use fusion cores also.

It uses both. But yes, it is a bigger drain on AP than it is on the Fusion Core.

And so other than the Freefall legs in Mass Fusion, is there any other place that a longer lasting jetpack would be of benefit (quest or loot wise)? Another missed opportunity out of the 1000's from Beth regarding FO4 in my opinion.

At some point you may or may not gain access to a Vertibird.

They are hiding them from you. As I said above, Jet Fuel allows quite a bit more AP and regen:

There are a lot of places you cannot get to otherwise. Some of them have interesting stuff.

Thats good to hear.. one of the things I missed most since morrowind was them placing items in hard to get to places. I hope modders expand on it though. It was always fun to explore every bit of a dungeon to find hidden loot.

This would be amazing and really easy for Bethesda to code for some patch.

What OP is describing sounds like a DLC thing.

It's in the game. A Chemist perk or two makes it quite powerful.

Yeah, I was also getting confused between Jet Fuel (the in-game drug one can craft, which raises AP, which helps your jetpack work better because of course) and jet fuel, some as-yet unprogrammed compound one could use as an alternative fuel source for jet-related things.

That's definitely not going to be put in the game by Bethesda. That's not what kind of jet pack this is. It's not some corny Ironman thing that just ignores physics and pretends that a metal suit can fly with some boosters on the feet. It's meant to be used for assisted jumping. There are already mods out there that basically let you have unlimited flight time. I've never used them and doubt that I ever will, but they are there. You'll never see it officially from Bethesda though.

Just build stairs upwards to get onto the roof then remove them when you're done

Not sure if you're aware

Taking the stairs is for chumps. Real men go through a convaluted process that takes probably a lot of levels to get (or partnering with the Brotherhood for some reason) which takes a lot more time then it would have if you built stairs.

That... sounded better in my head.

I thought jetpacks in the game took fusion cores, not a separate item? I'm not nearly high level enough to get a jetpack, so I'm lacking in knowledge there.

Jetfuel is a drug. One that the player can craft. Since Jet packs use up both AP and Fusion Cores it can greatly extend your distance.

The Power Armor that they are a mod for needs Fusion Cores to run. The Jetpack uses AP or action points and they are what you use to sprint, for example. You can get a long way by using the Jetpack properly. That's jumping into the air, then jumping again and again is how you use the Jetpack efficiently. Just holding 'jump' will not get your very far. You can normally jump up about 3 stories with efficient use.

Jet Fuel increases AP and it's regeneration so you can jet farther. The Chemist perks make chems last longer. The advantage is not trivial. ;)

Has anyone tried packing a bunch a Nuka Quantums in a huge pile in a hot key than use the jet pack using them once your ap gets to a point to see what happens?

Hot keyed quantum and ultrajet with chemist rank 4. Started at the USS Constitution and flew all the way to (almost) the top of Mass Fusion on one jet and a twelve pack or so of quantums. Unfortunately after the jet wore off, descent became rapid. Even popping another wouldn't allow me to climb.

Awesome idea, thanks. Once brotherhood "gets involved" you have endless supply of armor frames if you want. So just put a jetpack rigged one at all settlements for turret and wire access rather than using silly looking stairs. I build tall defense towers, and without hacks/mods the settlement build limit is just too limiting (but I want to adhere to it so as to not feel like a cheat about it - maybe it's about the challenge?). No stairs means more something else.
