Jobs Announced!

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:48 am

I just read my mate's Xbox Magazine and it said some new features-
1. NPCs now do specific jobs and tasks
2. Players can perform these (e.g. woodcutting)
3. Players can now sabutage businesses such as lumber mills which in return damages the town's economy

Didn't we know this from before?
Glad that it's re-confirmed then I guess :P

In any case, I love how NPCs are coming more to life. Job is a huge part of that.

Nice to hear that Skyrim will be more complex than MW/OB. Every bit counts.

While this has been known for a while, it's always good to refresh it for those who haven't seen it already. This is one of the things I'm most interested in about the game. :)

erm, I think this info is already out there.

However, I'd be leary of the last one. It just sounds like a part of a scripted quest, not something that one can do randomly or as a job. (now you must drive the spike in the log)

Ok we can damge region economy...What for ?
Civil war, so we hired as spy/saboteur/assassin.
Ho well, not bad if well though.

Because if not it will be like:
Sabotage the mill a X place, get there broad daylight sabotage it in front of everyone, come back take the reward.
or
kill to the building sabotage it be attacked by a weakling kill it and go away, when you come back to the village nothing happens to you. MEH.

I hope they can implement fame/infame in accord to the region you are, with fame growing it spread more.
EX:
place 1 2 3.
fame corresponding -4 0 5
Aftr killing a dragon and saving the village -2 3 11 (the people you killed half the pop still hate you but a little less, the people where you did nothing like you more, the people where you were already know sheer at you.)
And the more infame you are the harder is to grow your reputation, the more famous you are the slower it is to dirty your name.

As for being more complex than MW or OB, its really not a feat. More complex than MW and/or OB modded now that would be something.

Sweet! My first fishystick!

Anyways, each settlement "has it's own economy" which can be increased or ruined for the mallicious or philanthropic gain of the player... Hooray!

There wil be no more idiotic conversations about mudcrabs either, which is a shame :(

I plan on integrating these features at best and at worst hoping it comes out as a mod, for a Self sufficient Fortress in either Western Skyrim or on a island off the northern coast, Woodcutting (supplies) Smithing(armor/weapons) Farming(food) as well as other aspects. the fortress would be vacant at first but the whole point of it is to serve as a last bastion for survivors rounded up and brought to the Fortress :D I intend to see if Ignoring the MQ and the fragility of Towns and their economy could result ina post apocalyptic setting up until the point the world is eaten or burned (as characterized by the Nords)

This is a fantastic idea. If I was getting the PC version I would try it. You must keep us posted when the future time comes!

I'm really interested to see how Smithing works... I mean, how far are they going to take it? Are we just going to forge normal weapons and armor? Special stuff? Both?! AH!!! :ahhh:

Always thought/said it would be good if the game could incorporate some real economic factors into the gameplay, but I didn't really expect it to happen. Will be interesting to see how extensive it is.

Sabotage...?

If this is actually an interesting mechanic and not a gimmick, then I'll have to terrify many seperatist towns across Skyrim...

Rebels beware! :chaos: poisoned wells, infrastructure destroyed, monsters let loose... Muahahaha

actually thank you for the thread. i was aware of the jobs and that npcs do certain tasks but i was unaware of the ability to sabotage a towns economy. im assuming this means you choose either pro imperial or anti imperial sides.

While there may be quests to sabotage/save the mills and whatnot, I think a large part of the function is to defend them from large creatures. Not to say that you can't do whatever you want to them. :flamethrower:

2. Players can perform these (e.g. woodcutting)

What a 100% useless and boring future Im never going to use. Honestly I cant belive anyone would spend their time cutting wood in a videogame.

Now over to the good news:

We will be able to sabotage mills and whatnot. This will be awsome. GTA in TES-style: Steel a horse, get to the nearest town, kill a couple off guys, burn down the mill and escape the guards. Sounds funn :)

Edit: thx for posting news :) Always nice for us who dont have acces to magazines.
