Jobs

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:55 am

Ummmm, doing a job would be gameplay? But I agree with you on your second point, wouldn't want farming to be tedious and require a lot of attention. Plant some crops, go dungeon-divin' then return and harvest em for sweet moolah!

Sorry, I didn't really make it clear what I meant. I meant that if it interferes with the things that I'd want to do, such as questing and dungeon diving, it wouldn't be worth it. I know I'm probably going to hear the " it'd just be an option! " comment for posting that but oh well. Fast travel is an option to, if you don't use it then you feel gimped in a way because you know there's a way to get to your destination quicker and get that annoying quest over with. Although, if you use it, you could be missing out on some random encounters ( there will be tons of them in Skyrim ) and nice loot, also you'd feel like you were not getting the experience a player who didn't use it would get.

So yeah, as long as the job can be done without wasting too much time I'd definitely get in on that.

I had a day job in Oblivion i Killed people for the brotherhood. But if they offer some jobs that AREN'T just stupid little minigames ( Fable style) then i welcome them.

Unfortunately that didn't last long in the Dark Brotherhood. I wish there were more random quests to eliminate NPCs in the guild.

I said meh, cause it would be cool to some thing like, farming, bodyguarding or other average jobs for a while. Just for fun, but I still want to be able to make money from doing quests adn going in to dungeons and selling loot. Some have said they dont want it to interfere to much with "normal gameplay", so I would say it would be optional, kind of like you can do it adn get really good adn make quite a bit of cash, but if you dont want to then youll have enough cash from the standard way of making cash..

Sounds like some Fable crap to me.

Nahhhhh.

I don't mind the option, but it shouldn't be mandatory.

We are adventurers after all, killing bandits or monsters and looting ancient dungeons is what we do for a living, but taking on the occasional blacksmithing job or courier mission seems like a perfectly reasonable addition. If you're going from one city to the other anyway, why not deliver a package or two right?

Yeah, I like this idea, I'd like to at least have the option to take on an odd job if no mercenary work catches my eye.

Ya. It doesn't even have to be officially a job. i.e. You go mine a bunch of ore from Generic's Mine and go to Urist McBosmer's workshop(or your home) and make some weapons and pawn them off to local store owners OR You go and gather a bunch of food and other ingredients(via theft, purchase or foraging) and go to Big Bro-Kash's Fancy Horse Diner(or your house) and cook up some food to turn a profit OR You take all the "vendor trash" loot and enchant it for fun and profit(if enchanting is cost effective in Skyrim). Minigames(at least QTE ones) can get old much faster than feeling like an actual businessman.

Another thing to think about in regards to jobs in Skyrim would be the amount of pay given. For example, let's say a low level character just got into the game and went to the nearest city ( what ever it may be ) and started a job as a body guard. If the job gave a lot of septims then that would make money far to easy and ruin the economy. If the job gave only a small amount of septims ( like 20-50 at most ) then it would be worth doing for now, but by the time you're a higher level it wouldn't be worth doing at all. Now they COULD add the infamous " You must be a Level 80 or higher in X stat to start this job! " rule into the game, but that would be unrealistic. Maybe have it so that the amount of septims achieved is based on the level in certain skills, or maybe based on how renown you are / how many times you've done said job. For example, a person who has done the Body Guard job 20 times will become famous for that job and the npcs would be able to really trust the player for that job allowing for harder tasks and more pay. We'll have to see where Bethesda goes with this, if they even decide to implement this to their game.

I like the farming idea... I would keep all my crops though. Maybe buy seeds, plant them in certain soil spots, have to water them every so often or they die...
The rest, I really hate. It failed in fable, it would fail in tes too.

I like the idea of them having jobs but am also concerned they will end up being tedious mini-games or a tedious cinematic like Red Dead Redemptions animal skinning (it was cool the first 5-10 times maybe but not long after that you realized that it was going to happen EVERY TIME you wanted to loot a person or animal). I would like to be able to buy and sell shops to run and modify, and maybe a few extra houses in each city to modify and live in or rent out to make money though.

For shops you could, hire/fire a person or two to run it (maybe they were stealing from you), maybe you can, or have to, check in on occasion to refill supplies for good items but not everyday items, and raise/lower prices, maybe even your own shop could continue giving you quest throughout and after the main game sending you to get special and unique items or find out if someone you hired is a thief or not.

For houses you could change rental rates up or down or kick out tenants you don't like (maybe they were necromancers) maybe even find unique items to add to or put on display in the houses so you can raise the rental prices cap to a higher level and make more money or they would give you an extra effect if you chose to live (sleep) in the house, maybe like my shop quest idea people would give you quest about an unruly tenant or yours (people, animals, or items go missing and you have to search the houses or follow the people to see what they are up to).

Fable jbs were fine for Fable, but they would feel a little "gamey" for TES.

Jobs would be cool with me but TES deserves something a little more sophisticated.

my biggest concern is not being able to do anything with all the money you will get. usually the armor you get comes from things you kill so i want something that takes a long time of saving to spend my money on. to me, it is pointless to have a ton of money and not do anything with it... :obliviongate:

Something that I've always wanted in these games were some true post-game content. I don't want a job where I do 9-5 at the blacksmiths, but an expansion of the guilds would be nice. The ability to become the leader of a guild and run the operations of all the guildhouses. Or just a high rank, and run a specific guildhouse. Assign jobs/contracts, run the economic aspects (or assign it to an accountant), and of course do the occasional job/contract yourself.

Organization simulators would be great post game content. It'd also allow for a more complete story for your character. You save the world, then become the mayor of a small town before retiring to a humble farm.

I think it would be fun.

One thing that people don't think about in regards to being a guild leader, is the fact that a good guild leader ALWAYS stays at the guild. They don't go on adventures or do contracts, instead, they give 100% of their time and efforts to the guild. In my opinion players shouldn't get to be the guild leader, but instead, get to be like an adviser or some other high rank.

Don't get me wrong, i do not mean the take-it-up-the-rectum style minigames that fable tried. I mean stuff do to while your not doing anything. And changeable. After you've basicly finished the main quests and one or two of the guilds, try getting a job to save up for the epic mansion you want to buy. And a 9-5 in oblivion is like 10 minutes.

This is actually something I complained about after Morrowind/Oblivion, but at a certain point I felt like the silliness of it had to be accepted (since it doesn't seem like it will change).

I think (this is kind of off topic) That the dark brotherhood should have daily assassination jobs available. Not saying they have to give ALL of the targets names, and the jobs are available, you don't have to do them that day.

I never tried the first game, and since the second game was a huge disappointment, i wasn't stupid enough to buy the third game either despite all the hype. So i don't know how good the minigames in Fable and Fable III is. But in Fable II it was absolutely terrible. Quick? well that really depends on how much you want to earn. Simple? Sure but is that necessarily a good thing? Rewarding? Well it's a job but apart from the gold, i fail to see what's so rewarding about doing the exact same thing a thousand times. Fun? That is quite possible the last word in the world i would use about it if you asked me to describe it.

I think having jobs would be great as it would add to the roleplaying experience and immersion. However, I would only want jobs that I can do when I want to do them, so that it wouldn't interfere with my adventuring.

Adventuring is already a job. A day job takes away from that freedom. Like some others have said before, I wouldn't mind being a businessman -- starting a farm/ranch/store and hiring workers do do the dirty work. Some mechnic like that would be fun. But.. turning this into the Medieval Sims is going to take away from my freedom of adventuring.

Based on what the GI article suggests, I highly suspect that some sort of jobs are going to be available in the game. I just hope that they're not as repetitive as the Fable trilogy's take on "working for your gold."

Not in a million years.

My job is saving the world.

I've done my time in mmo's. I don't want to do monotonous things to get money. There isn't an economy so it would feel like a completely wasted and time wasting gimmick.

It's not a bad idea and I know what you're getting at but it would be something you would have to do to get any money (as you suggested). No thanks.
