G.I. Joe: Where Does it Go Wrong?

On numerous occasions they've tried to kick-start this franchise onto the big screen, but without success. I for one know that there is definitely massive scope for one hell of a saga of movies hidden inside this mythology, but alas the movie studios keep on botching it. I have my views on why they can't get it going, but what about you lot?

For me I think it's 'cause of the old mistaken belief that (just like superheroes' franchises) it has to be aimed at little children. Yees, I know it's a toy line, but I really don't think you can adapt something based around war and terrorism into a successful kid friendly movie. It doesn't mean that you have to turn it into We Were Soldiers, with blood and guts all over the place, but you really have to make it at least something akin a classic 60's or 70's WWII movie, only based in the near future. Yes, it'd be a kinda Sci-Fi WWIII movie franchise, with Cobra being a serious terrorist organisation on a par with Hydra from Marvel.

Thoughts?

I think that it's being incentivized out of the picture.

I think [also] what's forgotten about some of the best 80's and early 90's cartoons, is that they were designed to entertain both the parents and the kids; sometimes on different levels. In some cases the parents were stuck watching it with the kids, so it had to be engaging on some level for the parent.
