[WIP BETA] Johnny Appleseed

You might have some mod corruption since I made changes to the dialog. You would have the old topics, but not be able to get the new topics.

Now, to get the option of noticing the strange gauntlet that Johnny has, you must have a perception of 7 or higher. should I make that 6 or higher?

seems like noticing a strange article of clothing would be one of the easier things to do. (Deathclaw gauntlets don't even appear in the vanilla wasteland until you make one) I'd say it wouldn't take much perception in order to notice, since it's quite possible a character has never seen one before and it's pretty damn obvious.

Yes they do. There is even a special encounter where the guy has one. But your probably right, it is rather unusual to see it used as a weapon in the wastes. ;)

What I meant by needing a perception check is, if you look closely, the 'claws' are silver instead of the normal brownish color. I retextured this version of the deathclaw gauntlet.

No there is not. There is a special encounter to acquire deathclaw gauntlet schematics, but not an actual gauntlet. The only other place where a gauntlet can be found besides making your own is in the Pitt DLC, and it is dropped by one of the bear brothers. (which is a bit too fancy to be vanilla)

What I meant by needing a perception check is, if you look closely, the 'claws' are silver instead of the normal brownish color. I retextured this version of the deathclaw gauntlet.

Again, I'd argue that the nature of the weapon itself would be enough to prompt a question about it. If you want to do a perception check though, I'd say 6 would probably fair for just noticing that it's not the color of a deathclaw.

I must have been thinking about the railway gun then.

I can add another topic about what the deathclaw is. Perhaps a high charisma would get Johnny to talk about the unique versions if your perception is not high enough.

But to 'notice' a difference in the color of the gauntlet and inquire more about it would require a perception check.

I think a few different ways to get the topics about the unique deathclaw would be more immersive.

In any case, the player will have to know what and how to make a deathclaw before he can get the unique deathclaw anyway.

oops. I hit respond before I wrote anything.

Edit: I like the idea that the Unique DCG is hard for the player to get at; that the player has to have high PE and know how to use the schematics. It's a special and unique weapon.

But what about the two lesser models? It would be great if an Unarmed player could buy the lesser Gauntlets from him regardless of the character's PE because an Unarmed character would recognize a DCG if she was using schematics to build them. I went into the console and upped my character's PE so I could get the dialogue and bought a Steel one, but it felt like cheating. I lowered the PE back down again after the transaction. Or maybe there could be no check on the lesser models and they are always available and there is only a check on the cool, unique one?

It's just a thought and a plea from a dedicated Unarmed player. Thanks. :) It's very, very fun to have someone in the Wasteland selling a schematic weapon.

Well, the problem is he does not really 'make' the deathclaw gauntlets, and that is why you have to bring him one.

He knows how to upgrade the claws though. I just don't want somebody fresh out of the vault getting ahold of the things. So, the requirement that you bring him an already built deathclaw gauntlet, and caps, and have a 6 in Perception or Charisma. Otherwise it makes no sense why he would talk about it to a complete stranger.

well my own recommendation:

1. If player doesn't have a gauntlet in inventory or the schematics, they can ask about the gauntlet, and then perhaps a check against perception, or intelligence to notice the modifications, or use charisma to get johnny to explain a bit more about the gauntlet.

2. If the player does have the schematics or gauntlet, they could comment on the fact johnny has one, but would need a perception check to notice that it's been modified.

Ok. I understand. With both PE and CH at least my characters will have two avenues to get access to talking to him about it. It is just so fun having a guy with all the schematic stuff all around him (workbench, DCG on his arm, repair skills). There isn't any of that in the Wasteland. Schematics are one of my fav parts of the game. This mod is just a treasure trove of goodness, WillieSea.

This seems pretty cool, and those screenshots look amazing.

I'll definitely be trying this out! :D

Also, am I the only one reminded of the scene from Family Guy with http://www.trilulilu.ro/Ana/71ffc3d82aa30f?

Okay, this is how I have the dialog topics going down for the unique deathclaw gauntlets:

#1. If the player has not found any of the deathclaw schematics, then they get a general message about the gauntlet. Then see #3.

#2. If the player has found one of the deathclaw schematics, they get a little more detailed message. Then see #3.

#3. If the player has a 6 or higher in one of these (Perception, Charisma, Luck) then you are on your way to having Johnny talk about making deathclaw gauntlets for you.

I am not much of a TV watcher, so I don't watch Family Guy.

Yay! :celebration: I always play with high Luck! Thanks for all the work you've put into this so I can have fresh apples, a beautiful apple tree and a DCG wearing and modifying Johnny in my game. I'll be sure to give an endorsemant when the mod goes up on Nexus.

The new Beta v12 is now ready.

You can get it here:

I fixed the dialog so it should be perfect now. No guarentees though.
I added some more idle markers, a chimney for smelting the metals and a working clock.

Well, at least 2 people downloaded the new beta. I will be releasing the mod this weekend unless somebody has some comments about the current build.

I want to add some dialog about the working clock and perhaps other stuff I think it needs while I am working on it.
