Requirements
- Fallout 3

Story
Wandering the wastes West of Megaton, something green catches your eye in the distance. Walking closer your surprised to find a man tending to an actual apple tree.

Reward: Apples! and a special deathclaw gauntlet
The 'crisp' apples fresh off the tree are healthier than the 'fresh' apples you find in the wasteland.
There are three types of retextured gauntlet, Iron, Steel and Titianium. Each does a different amount of damage so you can choose the one that fits with your belief in how gameplay should be.
The iron is a little better than the original deathclaw gauntlet.
Steel is better than the iron and the Titanium does a lot of damage.

Starting the Mod
Head West and a little south from Megaton until you see the tree on the valley floor.

*Exterior*
A fruiting apple tree and Johnny's shack.

* * SPOILERS * *
A brief step by step guide to the mod so far...

Spoiler
1. To get an apple from the tree.
- Walk up to the tree. A message pops up if you were successful or not.

2. Only a certain number of trees are ripe per day. A message pops up when there are no more apples.

3. If Johnny dies, the tree stops producing a lot of apples.

4. Johnny collects any extra apples and places them for you in a crate in the open shack in a crate.
- If Johnny dies, this stops.

5. Johnny can create special deathclaw gauntlets for you to use.
- He needs a deathclaw gauntlet that you have already build and some caps for his supplies.

The current version only has Johnny creating the titanium deathclaw gauntlet. The next beta version will include all three versions.

If you Beta test this mod, please let me know what you liked and if you had any issues with it.

That spot looks perfect for this type of mod!

If it is the area that I believe it is, just want to let people know that it will conflict with the http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5630 mod. If you changed the land height around the tree at all, there may (not 100% sure) be an issue with the http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6338 Mutfruit plant(s) placed around the tree. I think there was only 1 plant that was placed there but I wanted to mention it for anyone that notices a plant that seems like it may not belong.

 Nice! I'm looking forward to trying this later.

@Miss Sparkle: Thanks for the headsup on Fallout Food. I'm using it so I can check any potential weirdness.

I changed the land height very slightly, and not at all immediately around the tree. Mostly It was slightly changed around the shack I placed.

I have not used the Manchester mod so if somebody could confirm what the conflict would be, that would be great.

At this time, there is a 'message' that pops up with script information. Just ignore it for now. I use that information on the tree shaking script. :)

I noticed the message and was a bit confused about it thanks for clearing this. Btw. It's a wonderful 'little' encounter.

Here are my first (betatester) impressions:

As I first come to this place I had a ghost tree behind the apple tree. I assume it was a LOD leftover which disappeared at my second visit.

A possible bug:
Spoiler
I had no Gauntlet with me so I told the 'treekeeper' ;) that I am not interested in the moment in meele weapons. As I come back 2 days later with a gauntlet & a lot of caps in my inventory he didn't made the offer anymore?

I assume the dialogue is a placeholder in the moment because most of the first met topics are a bit short with only one word. I haven't installed 'An Evening With Mister Manchester' so sorry I can't tell if there is a conflict.

The first thing I thought of when I heard Johnny Appleseed was the PC dropping pips to grow mini apple trees. Would that be possible? Allowing the PC to drop pips from the crisp apples that grow into tiny bushes in a few days, only giving you 1 or 2 apples every now and then but giving you a way to spread Johnny's trees across the wasteland.

@sesom - I forgot to include the 'TREE LOD' file. I will get that in the next beta.
I forgot about the 'Not interested' option not working, thanks!
The dialogue is not 'one word', they are full sentences, and some of the topics have multiple sentences. I will check this again.

@TheTalkieToaster - Yeah, that would be possible. With there being no rain, I thought it would be rather improbable that a tree would grow without a lot of care. It would also require a new 'tree bush' object which I could not make. I made the apple tree by combining two different trees together. I don't know, what do people think?
The tree I did place is rather complex with a lot of objects placed to create it. The apples are not even part of the tree. lol

I meant the player topics:
Spoiler
Apple Tree. Titanium Claw. Titanium Claw Options.
.
Sorry that I was bit unclear in the last post. The responses from Johnny are all ok and nice to read.

But the player words read more like a configuration menu then a conversation. For me it was a bit immersion breaking while talking to a newly found stranger with a very special tree.

Spoiler
Maybe the chat with him should start with the question about free apples or the tree and then should lead to his other ability's.

Btw. another wonderful mod from you which surely stays in my load order.

WillieSea- Johnny's in a really bad spot in my wasteland. The first time, he was massacred by Enclave before I could meet him and after a reload from a different cell, he was running from a dog and two iguanas while a Scavenger, his Pack Brahmin and Yao Guai stood on the roof of his shack. There were also a few Albino Radscorps and robots nearby but I was able to kill them all off before they got to him. Maybe he could use a bit of a health boost?

The only incompatibility with the Mutfruit plants from Fallout Food is with Johnny's sitting idle marker by the tree. When he sits down, there's a Mutfruit plant growing between his legs. Johnny Appleseed needs to load after Fallout Food or http://a.imageshack.us/img839/6462/waterl.jpg

"RUMORS."

"Have you heard? The Emperor has been assassinated!"

"Imperial City"

"No one can explore the city for you."

"Gray fox"

"He's just a myth."

"Coerce"

"Alright alright, whatever you say!"

"Boast"

"My, what a great story."

It's just that good ol' oblivion approach to conversations.

@ghoulsrpeople2
My little critters never learn to behave. :whistling:
btw. They spawn with other original creatures (MMM method). I did not set a spawn point there. They where added to other original ones.

I liked it to protect Johnny and killed the four Raiders that attacked me and Johnny at my first visit. At my second visit Johnny gave me hand ;) to survive against the 5 Enclave soldiers which where luckily distracted by hunting some Iguanas before they recognized us.

@DarthRavanger
Oh I forgot... Maybe it's time for me to play Oblivion again.

@sesom - Ah, I see what you mean. This is my very first attempt at making dialog although I have made a lot of mods. Any suggestions on replacements for the topics I would certainly consider.
I will also go with your idea for only adding the other topics after you talk about the free apple. Thats a good idea.

@ghoulsrpeople2 - I gave Johnny a boat load of health, perhaps he just needs more... I have a script on him that when he ends combat that his health is restored. I will agree that the area is rife with bad things that are all hungry or bloodthirsty.
There are 2 different places to sit by the tree. Is it the one on the shack side?

Hi WillieSea,

I took the mod for a spin this morning.

The tree is very lovely and Johnny was friendly and helpful (it's always nice to have another person to do repairs) and I am very excited to have a source of fresh fruit in the Wasteland.

After reading what Ghouls had to say I'll add this to the list of him being harrassed. When we showed up to visit Johnny he was being attacked by a couple of Talon Mercs and their dog. He was fleeing, so Charon and I killed them and then he returned. I also lost the water by his tree and am running Fallout Food,so I'll do as Ghouls suggested and move it lower to fix that.

This is what I noticed that I wanted to share with you:

Spoiler

1. When I was first nearing the area where Johnny, his tree and his shack are, but still couldn't see it as it was still too far away, I got a message that said something about no ripe apples being available. It was a fairly technical message about which gameday it was minus some number of gamedays (IIRC) and number of apples. I wasn't sure if it was meant for the player or something you forgot to take out that you were using.

2. When Johnny tells me I can give him a gauntlet and 100 gold to receive the Titanium version of the gauntlet I think that should read "caps" not "gold."

3. When I went over to the tree to "shake it" I got the "shaky, shaky" message, which made me giggle and then nothing. I wandered away and then came back by the tree and I got the message that told me an apple had fallen. That was nice as I knew to look for one so then I picked it up. I did this cycle (shaky, shaky then walk away and come back) a couple more times to verify that's how it worked and to see how many apples I could get the tree to drop and then I got the message, again, that I had gotten originally about no ripe apples being available. That particular message, if it is meant to tell the player that no apples are available, is kind of confusing and jargony. I think maybe something that just says, "You have taken as many apples as you can for now, you need to wait X number of days before the tree will produce more." or something like that would be friendlier.

Thanks for another great mod I get to play with.

:) llama

He might have been okay had he not run headlong into the two soldiers who were packing Tri-Beams. Poor guy never had a chance :(

Yes, it's the one on the shack side. The blue mutfruit plant next to the tree comes up right inside his left leg.

@llamaRCA - 1. The 'message' is a debug message, just ignore it. It will be gone in the next beta.
2. I have also already changed the 'gold' to 'caps'. I think 'gold' was on my mind because the script command to find out how many caps you have is 'GetGold', a leftover from Oblivion.
3. You only need to move a few feet away from the tree for another shake attempt. The message will not be a 'message box' so it will just say there are no more ripe apples.

@ghoulsrpeople2 - There is not much that can survive one 'tri-beam' attack, let alone two of them. I have increased his health, the weapon damage as well as making it so he is less likely to 'run away'.

I will have a new beta read as soon as I fix this load of issues. Thanks to everyone who has tried it out and responded, it can only make the mod better!

Not totally sure if I found the place, but I did get a message that none of the apples looked ripe when I got somewhat close to the Manchester Estate. But I saw no apples, let alone a place where they might have been, so I figured I had got a debug message, somewhat supported by the fact that it had some odd numbers on it too. I'll be checking under the Manchester plateau soon enough. Game kinda crashed.

A new beta is ready with a lot of fixes. Check it out!

Note: Johnnys armor now restores his health, 5 points per 'second'. That should help him survive a bit longer.

EDIT: Thanks YX33A, it would be good to know if the two mods are incompatible.

The sitting idle marker is much better now. I had Jericho sitting on one side of the tree and Johnny on the other side while I shook apples on their heads. Great fun :D

I noticed two tiny things to be a grammar nazi about-
Spoiler
When asking about the apple crate, Johnny says "Your free to take as many of them as you like" when it should be "You're" and the Dialogue topic "Thats a strange looking Deathclaw Gauntlet" is missing an apostrophe in the "That's".

Something else-
Spoiler
I went back to him with three Deathclaw Gauntlets in my inventory to ask him to make me all three versions of his DCG. In topics, I had "Iron Claw, Steel Claw and Can you build me a Titanium Deathclaw Gauntlet". After he made all three of them, the topics list displayed "Iron Claw Options, Steel Claw Options and Titanium Claw Options" Perhaps both groups could be more like:
Can you build me an Iron Deathclaw Gauntlet?
Can you build me a Steel Deathclaw Gauntlet?
Can you build me a Titanium Deathclaw Gauntlet?

Love the apple tree!

@ghoulsrpeople2 - I made the changes you suggested. I had made a lot of dialog changes and really did not have a chance to test them yet.

The apple tree uses the 'trunk' from one tree and the 'leaves' of another tree. I tried to make my own leaves but they just would not work. The leaves are not apple leaves, but most people probably will not notice. Heh, heh!

Thanks for checking it out. Let me know if you notice anything else.

I have the latest version and moved the mod lower in my list and it looks great, I have water (and there was an apple floating in it that had been stuck under something before so that was cool) and no one came to attack Johnny. I got a nice message about the lack of ripe apples (I shook the tree a lot when I was there before; I was very greedy, heh). But I have a question.
Spoiler
Do I need to be doing something to get all of the dialogue options for all three versions of the DCG? Currently I am only getting the dialogue topic for the Titanium one (I did do that transaction and it went smoothly).

I am so loving having an apple tree in my Wasteland.
