to join a side, or not to join a side .

Post » Sat Aug 31, 2013 4:28 am

now that's the question..

For me, (my thieves guild master treasure hunter) I am having a tough time choosing. I usually join the stormcloaks for these reasons :
They are defending there lands, my character doesn't like invaders as he is a bosmer whowas pushed out of his lands by thalmor.

They have those awesome large battles at the end, which I find oh so fun.

Imperials just annoy me.

But, storms are fairly racist, and Iget tired of hearing them call me an elf. Like ya I know, NORD . I honestly would rather destroy both sides, but I don't think we get that option. So, all in all, how do you succesfully create the peace treaty?

I'll say it first. The Stormcloaks aren't racist...that much.

Anyways, it sounds like your character should avoid them both. Your character would benefit from taking from both sides.

Perhaps look into the Skyrim Blog for a RP scenerio that could apply to your character.

Not all Stormcloaks are racist, Imperials aren't "invaders."

I'll go guillotine myself now

Stormcloaks aren't racist. 2 DRUNKS who support the stormcloaks are racist. 1 was a stormcloak soldier, the other is the brother of Galmar.

Since your character is a thief, he/she is best avoiding the war.

join the stormcloaks

I actually think Ulfric himself isn't that racist as people in the Grey Quarter make him out to be. Some of the Stormcloaks seem misguided, but a lot of em are pretty nice, Ralof, and that one merchant from Falkreath come to mind.

He allows an Altmer to be a major merchant, and another Altmer couple to run the horse stands, some Dunmer say that they need to work harder to integrate themselves into Nord society so that they'll get treated better. I think it was some Hlaau dude. He owns a farm, a lot more than most of the Nord hasselers. I think the only reason why Ulfric doesn't give a "damn" about the Dunmer is because he's allocating a lot of Windhelm's resources to the war effort. Like in that quest, Blood on the Ice, their short on guards so the nobles of Windhlem rely on an outsider for the work.

But since your character is a thief, I would suggest just letting the war continue for profit. Stealing military supplies is a great way to make good coin.

The Nords arnt racist. They're holding a grudge against the Thalmor and pretty much all elven kind because of it. Same thing as the Argonians hating the Dark Elves for the whole slavery bit.

For your character though I'd just avoid the war altogether. Maybe kill off any camps of both sides that you come across because you dont agree with the war effort.

How can the empire invade a country that is already owned by them?

The Nords joined the Empire willingly.

They did at first, but I believe that they later seceded from the Empire because of their surrender to the Thalmor. They refused to be under Elven rule and saw the Empire as unable to protect them as they promised to. The Empire didn't like that, and saw themselves as able to reign in the "rebels", so they went after them, thus the Civil War.

I believe that's how it went. My lore is a little rustly.

It's not really like the Empire is invading, Skyrim is a founding member of the Empire.

A better anology would be a civil war of some kind, like North vs. South of the American civil war. That was also a large nation comprised of states where some states wanted to split away.

There is a temporary peace treaty if you haven't completed the main quest yet that automatically becomes part of the Civil War questline at some point. You could just do the questline up until there and rp that this turns out to be a lasting peace in the end.

Yeah you have all of your lore wrong. It was Hammerfell that seceded and the Empire never invaded them either. The rebellion in Skyrim is a civil war. One half supports Empire, the other independence.

See it's a really difficult thing to choose if you aren't Nord or Imperial since one or the other may hold a grudge or bias against you (I'm usually a Nord)

I've never joined the Stormcloaks because Ulfric and his generals are just.... I don't know they irk me big time. That is the only reason I've never joined them.

Ulfric is some guy who thinks he should be king even though I believe he is far from a King especially one who would be a good one. I feel as if he'd be the person who'd kill or imprison his political enemies. He doesn't deserve to be king and I won't follow someone who can't lead. He's a boss not a leader. Then on top of that you have the Cavemen generals, who talk like they've eaten rocks their whole lives, and think like it too. Essentially: They're "King" would be no good king, and their military is full of Cavemen.

On the other hand

The Imperials are wusses, who back down to the Thalmor. It'd be best to Go Nazi Germany here and take complete control. Talk to the other powers nearby who can help, make Alliances, and build up. Unite the Empire under one true banner and march forth and take some Filthy Thalmor heads. The Empire will never recover if they keep allowing the Almderi Dominion to spank them. Signing the White-Concordat and following it to the letter will leave the Empire a tattered ruin of it's former glory. Best take it now or not take it at all.

On top of that, Tullius is a good General, smart, clever, and a good fighter he reminds me of Julius Cesaer(I wonder why) A strong man who can get what he wants and can smash anyone but once he settles, the daggers of political and philosophical beliefs will be his new enemy. He can't hold a country together, he's a conqueror and a soldier not a Liberator and Country builder.

Just my thoughts.

If you think imperials are wusses then you don't pay attention to anything. they all ready lead a dying empire before the great war. they weren't prepared for a war with the thalmor. they did however reclaim the the imperial city from the thalmor in the battle of the red ring but no legions were at full strength and three of them had been obliterated entirely after that battle.they could not continue fighting without losing more soldiers and civillians.

Imperials are not invaders, Skyrim has been part of the empire for over an era, thus it belongs to the Imperials, even if the majority of its citizens are Nords...
its not "Imperials are Invading our lands", its more of "Lets take the land away from the imperials through bloodshed"..
the Stormcloaks are for all intents and purposes, Separatists who are revolting against their government.

anyways

To Answer your question: just don't side with either... during the MQ you will reach Season Unending, and just head-canon that was the resolution to the conflict. i have done this numerous times..

however, if you really wanna join a CW faction, flip a coin (I do it when I can't decide)

and

Imperials have the same large battles just in a different city..
From a gameplay perspective, both sides of the CW are the same just with a pallet swap.

I don't think it will. It's not discussing the CW in depth. Just minor things I think both sides agree on.

You're an elf. The Empire represent human superiority. Stormcloaks hate you.

Let the two idiots kill each other. Then eat their corpses. Profit.

If that's so, then he is incorrect.

The Empire was originally founded on the blood of the Ayleids, slaughtered by two demi-Gods, for the service of humanity. Talos then comes along in the late 2nd era and solidifies human dominance.
