Well its been said the radiant story will revolve quests around your character so maybe joining them will effect the War I dunno.

What I really hope and I'm aiming for is to be able to betray Esbern as soon as we don't need him to defeat Alduin. Or that you can choose either Esbern (pro-Empire) or the Greybeards (pro-Rebels) in order to teach you how to be a Dragonborn, thus being able to truly do the MQ either as a loyalist or a rebel.

I'm wondering if joining the Empire or the Stormcloaks would even be part of the main quest? The civil war might just be a separate thing.

Well, the civil war is featured on the prophecy of Alduin's Wall, so they're somehow connected. But if they're part of two separated questlines, I'm fine with that, too :)

I'd much rather have it as two important but separate questlines :). Kind of like Daggerfall where the Emperor asks you to do the main quest and a more smaller optional quest (finding a letter he wrote) that turns out to be more epic than the main quest itself. :P

I hope that the Imperial Legion has better troops than the rebel scum. I will be royally miffed if Bethesda makes them equals in the name of balance.

The Stormcloaks?

Or they could always follow myself. But that goes without saying I guess? :P

I really hope neither of these factions are the "bad" guys. I want my main char to be a rebel, but at the same time I don't wanna go around killing imperial innocence simply because they live in imperial land. And I wouldn't want my enemies to be one dimentional dictators that obiviously need to be removed.

Makes you wonder how all these minor "factions" differ from the 4 real ones.

"Main", not "real". They're all real factions.

You know, I'm not an expert, but I'd guess it's probably because it's part of the empire.

The Imperial Legion as a faction is great news, I however hope they have a proper fleshed out story line and not just a few simple quests otherwise I am not to bothered.

Does this mean we will finally be able to reign righteous hell upon The Dark Brotherhood?

I sure hope so! one of my favourite thing about the factions in Morrowind was that sometimes you'd be given quests to anihilate members of the other factions :) 'course, it made becoming the leader of every faction very difficult, impossible for the great houses, but that's what was fun, you couldn't do everything, so what you could do had more meaning. From what I've seen so far, Skyrim may be wandering down this road again, the perks for example, they've confirmed that it's impossible to get every perk in one playthrough, heck, you probably couldn't get them all in 3 playthroughs. To em this is a good sign that you'll likewise have to pick and choose your friends and factions.

Odd, I thought the empire had long since fallen. Why is there an imperial legion if there's no empire? Or was I misinformed?
