Joining the Imperial Legion, Confirmed

Post » Sat Sep 10, 2011 7:59 am

Odd, I thought the empire had long since fallen. Why is there an imperial legion if there's no empire? Or was I misinformed?

Empire will never fall.

But currently there are few minor issues with Black Marsh, Morrowind and Elsweyr being separated from Empire
And now there is a tiny problem with Skyrim rebels.

We may be bleeding, but we will never fall on our knees.

The Septim reign ended, several provinces seceeded and they did a crappy job of running things for a while, then Titus Mede took over the empire and put things back in order.

Makes you wonder how all these minor "factions" differ from the 4 real ones.

Same as Morrowind, really. Shorter, shallower, confer fewer benefits. Nothing wrong with that. Can't have everything be super-deep.

Could it be the author was a bit confused and was in fact asked to join the king's legion, y'know Skyrims legion that the rebels are fighting against in the civil war?

...but not all of them, Skyrim is still part of it... I don't get the joke, the thing you just posted as the punchline isn't completely true, and I don't see how it could be considered funny.

Do you really think that they have full control over an empire in the chaos of war. If you don't think it's funny, then oh well. Does not matter, other people will get the references.

No, they don't... that's why there is a rebel faction.

I hope that the Imperial Legion has better troops than the rebel scum. I will be royally miffed if Bethesda makes them equals in the name of balance.

I would have thought so. The Legion will probably be better trained and equipped but a lot fewer in number. The only people I can envisage supporting the empire are nobles, rich merchants and others who have a financial interest in Skyrim remaining part of it. It all boils down to money, just like real life.

EDIT: Big thanks to Fortis Ignavus for the info!

If it can indeed be joined, I doubt the Legion will be nearly as powerful as it was in Oblivion or Morrowind. We should keep in mind Skyrim's (and the rest of Tamriel's, for that matter) state at this time. The Empire is in ruins, and Skyrim is in civil war. The Imperial Legion, as a faction, would just be remnants of a past glory, desperately and futilely trying to maintain some kind of order in a chaotic place where they have no power whatsoever.

And here I was hoping the Empire would turn out to be the enemy this time, seriously given the events of the last 200 years and the nature of the story in Skyrim the Empire and the Imperial Legion have far more potential as an enemy rather than as a joinable guild.

Enemy?
More like the desperate and hopeless peacekeeper.
Because I expect the fight between Pro-empire nord forces and nord Rebels
While Legion act as the mediator trying to protect as much innocents as they can from the horrors of the civil war

The legion is the Imperial army, AKA the pro-empire people.

Maybe they didn't say they were a major faction because your decisions here will have a greater effect on the overall plot, but there are simply less quests, less for you to do compared to the thieves' and other guilds. If there are, say 15 quests foe the college of Winterhold, and only 6 or 7 for the Legion or rebels, claiming they were a 'major' faction would bring the old 'Beth lied again' comments out of the woodwork.

Like I said Pro-Imperial NORD forces

Legion is multi-racial force
(I expect a lot of pissed Dunmers in Legion, itching to marsh to Morrowind and make boots out of argonian occupation forces)

I should have known somebody would say that but it just isnt the same, there was great potential for an awesomely epic storyline where the Imperial Legion are trying to hunt your character down along with the rest of the Blades but if this information about being able to join the Legion is true then I guess it shall remain a missed opportunity.

Err what? Why would everyone else just arbitrarily support leaving the Empire? You can spin that around the other way too. To consolidate their power and ensure the iron grip of their local influence, I'd imagine the Stormcloaks are full of nobles, rich merchants, and others who have a financial and political interest in consolidating their power.

I have a feeling both sides will be painted as sympathetic, but I highly doubt it's purely based upon economic lines.

You dont think the Legion will be supporting the Pro-Imperial Nords? Is there even a seperate faction of Pro-Imperial Nords? My guess is that any Nords that support the Empire will already be a part of the Legion.

I liked the 'cleared' tags that will allow you to tell the difference between a place you just found and a place you have explored and looted.

Same here, reading that made me want this game even more lol. Best piece of info from that article imo.

I also hope they expand on it a bit and show ones you have been into and cleared but still have locked chests to open, would always forget to go back into a dungeon after picking up more lockpicks.
