Jorrvaskr - Crashing after a few seconds or when leaving

Post » Thu Jun 25, 2015 10:37 am

I'm in the Living Quarters in Jorrvaskr. Everything was fine until I went to speak to Vilkas, whereby the game crashed a few times. I kept on trying until it finally let me finish speaking to Vilkas without crashing, but as soon as I tried speaking to Kodlak, it crashed again.

I've kept repeatedly trying and it finally let me finish speaking to the both of them, and I now have the training quest and Vilkas has left the room. However, whenever I try to exit the room to go back upstairs, or even if I just wait on the spot for about 10-15 seconds, it will crash.

Using the Wait command or trying to coc somewhere else only crashes the game again.

I haven't touched any mods since I started the game, so everything has been in already.

Do you know what is happening?

Thank you.

UPDATE: I went back to a much earlier save (before entering Jorrvaskr) and did the whole thing again. It was fine and I can now exit the place, but when I speak with Vilkas and try to spar, it crashes again.

Well, you haven't touched your mods, but there is a problem right now (obviously related to Jorrvaskr) and the culprit could be a mod. !!!

Sounds like the issue is repeatable. Try to uncheck all your mods and load the save. See if the issue persists. You can keep the DLC checked.

Don't overwrite any saves while doing this and don't load auto saves.

UPDATE: I can finish the fight now (after a reload from a few saves back), but it crashes when Vilkas goes back inside the building.

As for turning all mods off - it did work, so I saved my progress after the bit where I usually CTD. However, it will crash when loading up the new save with my mods turned back on again.

Don't ever save when toggling mods. THis was to be used as a troubleshooting tool. If the issue goes away when your mods are disabled, it is likely a mod issue.

You would then retoggle them on until the issue comes back. Narrow it down. Also dont ever load autosaves when toggling mods.

Posting your mods that you are using as well as the load order will help.

Sure. You can see it here: http://modwat.ch/schmagum

I used LOOT and Wrye Bash on this list and it still crashes.

Thank you.

Hmmm, now you mention it, there is: ETaC - Whiterun Ext CRF Patch.

It's an Expanded Towns and Cities mod patch. Could that be doing something?

Also, I do have Garm the Husky companion who is in the Halls of the Dead (?).

OK, maybe I might try disabling those and see if that works.

That is likely the culprit. You cant disable your mods, save the game, and re-enable them and expect it to work. As I said, you use toggling mods as a troubleshooting tool.

NEver overwrite a save while doing this. In order to get thte game to load again you will need to find a save that you didn't overwrite with the mods toggled off.

Hi guys. Just to let you know, I've finally fixed my save.

I took your advice and tried toggling my mods off in a specific order and found out that it was the mod 'Interesting NPCs' that was causing the crash. I've tested it several times with it off and all other mods on and my game is fine. When I turn 'Interesting NPCs' back on, it crashes.

I've deleted it now and there's not been a single crash since. So I think I am back to normal now.

Thanks for your help.
