A journal to write in?

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 12:07 pm

I think it would be a great roleplaying tool to play with if the players could have a journal that they could write in, in-game! I know there have been mods that do this, what do you think?

I think it would be really nice, but without a keyboard like on the 360, it would become painful to use.

It just seems useless to me. You want to know what would be the ultimate thing in immersion and realism? Go write stuff down on a piece of paper/notebook/journal. It's so immersive, It feels like you are actually writing!

I believe that you had a journal in baulders gate I & II as well as NWN were you could write about your travels.

Would be great, but I don't see this happen on the consoles if it happens at all :(

So it's too hightech to use pen and paper of your own like I do? It'd only take more time to have it in the game, unless on PC, because writing on the PS3/Xbox without keyboard takes a lot more time than writing on your own.

Yes, you can write by hand if it's not there, but it would be easier just to put it in the game... But it probably wouldn't be that useful as most quests are easily too simple to write stuff down! If there are quests worth taking notes for, I would love to be able to write my own.

EDIT: Being able to write on the map would also be nice.

Seems like a very good idea, but as said above without a keyboard it could be very painful to do.

What I would like to see, but probably won't happen, is recognition of a wacom tablet or similar device. This way, you could write in a journal/take notes on the map without having to type.

This could also be implemented in the consoles through the use of Kinect/Playstation Move. I don't know how precise those devices are, having never used them, but if it works I could see it adding a whole new level of immersion to the game.

Absolutely. I want my character to be able to write notes/journal in game rather than having to write notes on paper in real life.

And you can always plug in a PC keyboard.

Maybe they could make it an option, that instead of quests just popping up like in Oblivion that you have to write everything yourself.
If you make it an option the players that can't or just don't want to use it won't get bothered by it and have the same system like Oblivion, this way everyone would be happy.

But like some other people said, I hope they do it, but I doubt it

are you joking? quite a few RPGs have this feature, like neverwinter nights or arcanum, some even have customisable maps

EDIT: oh and this topic has been discussed to death

Love the idea, would really help me out in my roleplays even if I just use it to remind myself of certain things.
