Uuuuh, William and his army were Normans, not Vikings...

You know, you could explain if I've herpaderped in understanding somehow instead of just doing a /facepalm at me

edit: if you are facepalming because the Normans were once Vikings who conquered Northern France and subjugated the local populace, then fine, but they then went on to have their own culture, language and tactics. They are not the same as the Vikings that were trying to conquer parts of Northern England a few days before Hastings.
I'm not being angry here, I just want to know if I'm missing something else.

I'd like to see some kind of arena with the possibility to attend it by betting or fighting, and perhaps more?

I kind of can't imagine jousting being in the game, but something similar wouldn't be bad, I'm liking the idea. However, I don't really think it would fit Skyrim. But who knows?

a big arena should be in. and one or more of the battles should be on horse back if mounted combat is in.

maybe skyrim should have two arena's. one for mounted combat and one for ground combat.

Man it would be so awesome if they could emulate or come close to mount and blade's combat.

Mount and blades combat + TES rich RPG world = happy rest of my life.

Jousting doesn't seem like Skyrim to me, even the shirtless Nords on bears kind.

Me too. Jousting would have fit in well with Oblivion's more generic fantasy world, but I don't think it would suit Skyrim.

I was facepalming because the link Viking-Norman is quite evident and your earlier remark testified of either complete ignorance or, as it turned out, feigned ignorance, which I find somewhat misplaced. Normans might not have been the same as the original conquerors of northwestern France, but their viking heritage, especially in military terms, is again quite evident. Norman and older viking weapons and armor are stylistically very akin, most of the "siege" of Hastings was about pillaging rather than conquest and William's move to withdraw his troops en masse then turn was considered to be a distinct viking trick.

Yes, if it was a proper, old style joust - not the relatively modern French (and renfaire) version with two horseman and lances.
Square arena, a score of combatants, use any means necessary to be the last one mounted!

...well, the latter isn't really a joust, it is just a free-for-all. A "proper joust" is a tournament style, born in the middle ages in which only nobles (knights) could participate, which probably came about as a means of settling disputes amongst nobles within the same kingdom.

Guys, I didn't mean wussy jousting, like with Lances and horses and all that.
When I said shirt-less nords riding Bears (Possibly with axes) fighting to the death, I meant it. :verymad:

No, but seriously. This was more or less a joke thread. What I really want is an arena. Possibly with team deathmatch and Free for all matches.

Jousting is medieval knight-ish, not Nord-ish.

He looks like the sort of guy who could kill a Dragon whilst on a bear's back to me.

This, other than the novelty of his suggestion, I don't really want to see some lame jousting match in the game, I'll be too busy fighting dragons to worry about knocking some turd off a horse.

Most who have said no to jousting have a good point, it doesn't really fit in with the region or culture. If we were talking about a region consisting largely of open plains and grasslands (like France and England), then I would say yes.

However, this make-believe place seems much more Scandinavian in appearance, form the culture and peoples down to the very climate and landscape.

Now, Nords on bear back? That's an idea... :lightbulb:

Fair do :) I freely admit I know little of how much the battle tactics were inherited, just bits on how the cultures, religion and language changed. I naively assumed the military would be equally different. Thanks for the info.

The console I have isn't even owned by me, and I know mods are awesome (I've compiled a list of some 300+ FO3 mods I will DL), but getting even a HALF decent computer is strictly out of the question. I'm lucky enough to "own" a PS3, but I'm not rich.

Well I don't think such mods will create large load even for 2-3 years old PC, console hardware 5 year old and can handle game normal PC will even have some room for mods, you not need 4096x4096 textures and highpoly meshes for fun features.

I don't think you quite understand the situation I am currently in kind sir. I live in a Section 8 Projects housing complex. I have one window, one bed, one dresser, no closet and no TV in my room. I'm currently a High School student taking classes for free at Santa Fe College.

Last year, I was able to buy a decent laptop. How? I'm resourceful as hell. I get financial aid for living below the poverty line, for being the first in my family to attend college AND for essentially scoring in the "certified genius" level on my College Placement Test (i'm not that smart, I'm just an awesome test taker). I went to Best Buy during Black Friday and got an awesome deal. I've had a 2001 Emachine desktop for the past five years :brokencomputer: , but I'm now lucky to have a $250 MSI 2010 Laptop with 4 Gigz of RAM that originally cost $450 :celebration: . I got a job a couple months ago and can now afford wireless for teh internetz :jammasterjay:

Do you know how happy I was when I got that computer? Not only could I know more easily do my school work more easily and access awesome forums such as this, I figured I could now play FO3 :fallout: and GET MODS!!!! :intergalactic:

You seem like a smart computer guy so you know what I would eventually find out much to my dismay. It wouldn't be powerful enough for such a game, much less with mods, so I'll just have to wait until a nice, fat check comes in to buy such hardware, but that will take a while

Well then good luck to you, after Fallout 3 try Oblivion and Morrowind with mods or some older games like for example Arx Fatalis.
