A Joyful Topic

Post » Fri Aug 14, 2009 9:52 pm

Hello and welcome back to one of my topics. Today is a question in that we will be asking of ourselves and of the game Brink. I believe this will not only be helpful for the hard workers at Splash Damage, but also for the community on this forum.

Now, by this point I'm safe to say that we all know a lot about Brink (thumbs up for HORSE) and so I want to ask everyone some simple questions.

What would you improve? - EX. I would improve the Objective Wheel, because the newer version for me looks odd.

What would you add? - EX. I would add a Theater mode or a map making kit like Far Cry 2 did.

And what else would you do (such as remove or something else different)? - EX. To be able to morph the faces to my liking.

(Optional) Closing comments on Brink: The people at Splash Damage has continually impressed me over the years. Seeing the company grow is very inspiring for a young student learning Game Design such as myself. I believe I speak for the rest of the community when I say,'Thank you for the games you make.'

Improve: I agree with OP that what I'd really like to see is face building with sliders, nothing fancy, just so I don't run into an exact clone of myself wearing a different helmet.

Add: If not in the game, revolvers ^^

Else: I'd like to take out the change-class-whenever-you-want mechanic, not a fan of that idea honestly.

Closing statement: Heck I dunno, not really a fan of splash damage as I don't know really what they've done in the past, but this looks awesome

It's not change whenever you want... you change at nodes/terminals

Theater mode might be possible, would make machima easy if nothing else.... and with customizable characters, that would be a LOT of machima

I doubt a level designer could be simplified for common use.... some modders will probably use some advanced tools to do some crap, but don't expect a forge editor.

I also don't think face morphing is realistic.... sure, you can do it in Mass Effect.... Dragon Age.... Fallout..... noticing a trend here? they aren't fast paced online shooters.

I'm curious what you think is wrong with the objective wheel..... Maybe I haven't seen enough of it.....

Yea it's still whenever you want, just not whereever you want ;) My problem is tha tI want to be locked in my class untill i respawn. I just like to think of classes as part of what I play as and not just something lose that can be changed and the go, but that's just me.

You can just suicide in other games to change.... the downside is +1 death... but w/o leaderboards, that incentive is lost in Brink

The only additional downside to suiciding is the respawn timer.... however given that you have to RUN to a terminal, that takes time as well.

I see no real difference... I'd rather be able to swap out then have to suicide to change.

I have to agree about the objective wheel. I liked the one in the containment preview vids. I also agree with Roninoni about the class change. It will not be insta class change when ever you want. You actually have to take a tiny bit of time to do it.

I'd rather run to a command post to change classes than to suicide. When you're running you're still doing SOMEthing, while death, you'll just be waiting to respawn.

face sliders are cool, but only if done well, like in Sim2 and 3. Bethesda and Mass Effect face sliders blow.

the +1 one death makes people stick with their class which I like, and also it makes people respawn at a respawn location. Now I don't know where the terminals will be i Brink, but I assume that tehy will be scattered around the map. I'd rather not see someone change class in-battle so to say... bt agani that's just me I can totally see people disagreeing with this

K/D isn't tracked... or at least, important...

No leaderboard
No in game k/d stats

K/D is as underplayed as possible.

Yea that's true didn't think of that, but my main point was the location thing anyway. Say I'm hunting a guy with a shotgun, I'll try to keep my distance, I don't want him to suddely appear with a sniper, this also goes for myself. If I have a sniper and I know a guy with a shotgun is almost about to catch me I don't wanna be able to switch to a shotgun if I happen to be near a terminal

I agree H0RSE. Remember Rahdo worked on one of the Sims so maybe there is hope.

So what if the objective you need to take and nobody is that class? Someone has to die for the team?

The look of the new Objective Wheel to me looks odd. I preferred the old Obj, Wheel, but it's a small complaint.

This says it all...plus, this is really a topic that should be for after the game has come out.

I'd like smart to be smoother and more fluid, it's ok right now but it could use a bit of work.
