I'm currently loving Tales of Vesperia right now. Didnt know if any of you guys (or gals) were interested in JRPGs and if so...any suggestions?

If I were you, I'd play 7, 8, 9 and 10 before you get into those. I loved those games. I never played XIII so I can't comment.

This. Although I'd throw a few more 4's in there.

I also suggest the Kingdom Hearts series, I'm currently playing through KH2 and Chain of Memories right now.

Kingdoms Hearts as well. There is also the obvious majority of Final Fantasy games. Current-gen I suggest you go for Valkyria Chronicles, Lost Odyssey, and Xenoblade Chronicles. All three are exclusives though.

OP: any particular platforms?

...and really, it depends greatly on what kinds of games you prefer. Persona 3, Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy may all be "JRPGs", but they're quite different games. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

re: Final Fantasy...... the only ones that I'd say I didn't "like" are probably 10-2 and 13-2. They're a bit too "sequel", and their plots aren't as strong - I've described them in the past (13-2 especially) as "a bunch of sidequests looking for a story". Yes, 13-1 was pretty linear, but I still enjoyed it. /shrug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
(Oh, and 12 was quite good, too.)

...oh, yeah. If you ever played Xenogears on the PS1 and liked it, you might want to give the Xenosaga games (PS2) a shot. Part 2 isn't nearly as good (which is a shame, and why the series god canned), but X3 makes up for it.

Oh, and Nier on PS3.

/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

edit: On the topic of PS3..... Kingdom Hearts 1 (and a couple of the portable games) and Final Fantasy X & X-2 are coming out in "HD" versions for the PS3, within the next year. So if you're on PS3, you might want to hold off on those games until the new versions hit.

Meh Try Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne before Persona 3 or 4.

I have a PS2, PS3 and XBOX 360. So platform..between those. Although I would prefer current gen. But if a game on the PS2 is good enough I'll dust it off. Im leaning a lot toward Tales of Graces f. And Ni No Kuni

Final Fantasy X and XII. Dragon Quest VIII. Those 3 are my favorites. I'm playing Tales of Vesperia right now and it's brilliant. Story wise, my favorite JRPG is FF X though and gameplay wise it's FF XII. Simply brilliant.

Valkyria Chronicles for the PS3 is great fun. It's very much a strategy-RPG but it's got a ton of depth to the story, characters and setting.

Chrono Trigger (worth buy a SNES just for that game)
Tales of Vesperia
Xenoblade Chronicles

I agree with what others have said concerning Final Fantasy.
Part 1-10 are all good... but after that they start to get bad. (although 12 isn't too horrible.) 9 and 10 can be played on PS2
4, 6, 9 and 10 being my favourites.

Without a shadow of a doubt:

Chrono Trigger
Dragon Quest VIII
Final Fantasy VI (and possibly VII too)

Final Fantasy Chronicles so no need for another console/portable.
Thought the DS version does have an extra ending somewhere.

I guess that suggestion's need to be said has been done by you. I'll just gush over some other games, then. You also made my job easier by mentioning nearly every other game I wanted to that was a PS2 game. That is a good.

Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor for the DS(Overclocked for the 3DS is basically just an enhanced version of the game)
Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance for the 3DS
Shadow Hearts on the PS2
Lunar 2 on PS1, PSP, and Sega CD(the PS1 version is probably not the way to go unless you like spending absurd amounts of money. I only got it cheap because it was sold at a used game store and didn't come with the necklace or giant box)
Final Fantasy 5 on the Super Famicom and GBA
Ni No Kuni on the PS3(it was originally a Japan only DS game)
Phantasy Star on the Sega Master System(Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection has it as an extra and you can get it off the Wii Shop Channel and maybe the current Eshops)
Breathe of Fire II for the SNES(once again, can be found off Nintendo's Virtual Console)
Phantasy Star 2 for the Genesis(this can be found on the PS2 Genesis Collection and Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. Also found on the Virtual Console)
Phantasy Star 4 for the Genesis(Found in the same ways as Phantasy Star 2)
Phantasy Star 3 for the Genesis(Found in the same ways as Phantasy Star 4 and 2)
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days for the DS
Dragon Quest 4 for the DS and NES(NES version will be amazingly expensive and DS version is probably more practical unless you are a collector)
Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior for the NES(found on the Virtual Console)
Dark Cloud for the PS2
Star Ocean 3 Till The End Of Time for the PS2
Parasite Eve for the PS1
Suikoden for the PS1
Suikoden 3 for the PS2
Wild Arms for the PS1
The World Ends With You for the DS
Fatal Labyrinth for the Genesis
