Junk to Component

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 8:06 pm

Is there a faster way to break down junk than building something or dropping on ground and using the workstation to destroy? Also need some faster way to breakdown armor because the workstation doesn't work the same as the weapon station to get materials from items like harnesses.

pretty sure you can just store your junk inside the workshop and it'll break down automagically as you need the different componants... been doing this all the way to level 43 or so, I dont believe weapons/armor break down though but I do store a buncha crap in the workshop anyway. Theres a buttun to "dump all junk" when you open up your workshop.

Assuming you're playing on a PC...

Find a settlement you don't mind emptying of everything, and then drop everything you want to scrap on the ground.

Then, in the console, type:

ScrapAll

But like banker247 said, junk is broken down when needed.

@Corey - Putting them in storage without breaking them down is fine for one settlement but it can be a pain if you need a specific component like a gear for another settlement. I cleared out the kitchen right beside the station in Sanctuary and use it as a dump. Also some items like non upgradeable armor still have to be dropped on ground to get component as the workstation only uses junk automatically.

This is why we need a scrap feature in the Pipboy. Having to drop headgear (because headgear for whatever reason can't be scrapped at the workbench) and such does become a pain. Now if I can manually add the headgear to the workbench inventory ... and then it gets automatically used, that would be great. But I have no way to know if that's what happens.
