edit:

So you can enter Sovngarde after living a long, honorable life and dieing of old age. As long as your deeds are honorable enough and what is and isn't honorable enough is a matter of personal opinion. A baker will say he lived an honorable life as bakers go and a warrior will claim the same.

If a Nord can only reach Sovngarde by dying in battle, then why is Ulfric there?

Spoiler

Dying after a lifetime of battle gives you as much right to enter the Hall of Valour as dying in battle. Jurgen WIndcaller fought for years, and only gave it up because he realised that the Gods did not give men the Voice for war.

Can we watch the choice of words lest this gets derailed? He wasn't cowering, and he didn't submit. That goes against what I'm saying here, but we need to be as accurate as possible.

It doesn't matter, his soul was tainted with that of the wolf.

Yes he would if it meant a quick end to the attack. Any true warrior would make that call without thinking :tops:

Still doesn't change that he died valiantly in combat.

Alright then, he was crouching. But he did submit. He didn't try to fight back, he gave up. This isn't anti-Stormcloak - he knew his death was inevitable. But he wasn't fighting on, and thus didn't go to Sovngarde because he died honourably in battle.

Go to the FO3 forums (or ANY fallout forum) and say that.

Bring a fireproof suit.

There's two points to make here. Either the in-game nord legend is incorrect, or gamesas is incorrect.

And considering that gamesas turned Cyrodiil into European forest, when it was previously described as a jungle, I'm betting that gamesas screwed up.

"I'll never surrender Skyrim to the hands of a dying Empire."

See, he doesn't surrender, he's injured to where he can no longer fight.

" Tainted " is such a harsh word  .....It's more like gifted. :tops:

Just because you're jealous of the power we Lycanthrops hold dosn't mean that we're " tainted ". But it still doesn't earn us a place in Sovngarde, instead we get to hunt all day 24/7/365 for EVER with the best god there is the great Lord Hircine.Chasing bunnies all day long :bunny: :D

That is explained in lore. If you mean ES:O, that isnt Bethesda.

And lore changes all the time. (Maybe not all the time. Sometimes) This is our first look into Skyrim, giving us more info on Nord belief. It doesn't mean they screwed up, it means we got more information.

No it's not but it's what happened......Ask Beth why it happened that way. I know one thing, if it was this werewolf at home.....The Silver hand would have not made it that far into town.

Don't forget, Kodlak is waiting/hiding/avoiding Hircine at Ysgrammor's tomb. He tells you that; he and many other of the Harbringers are there, trying to not go to Hircine's hunting grounds.

Meaning that the wolf soul wouldn't have any effect on his death in battle and he very well could have simply met the criteria that way?

If thats what you suggest, then yea that is possible.

Doesn't matter if you fall as a man or beast as long as you are a Lycanthrope your soul belongs to lord Hircine in the after life. Which is the point I tried to make with Kodlak, once cleansed his soul moves onto Sovngarde which means it was his deeds and honor that gained him entry not a honorable death in battle.
