Just beat campaign on Veteran

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 7:49 am

In just around 8 hours. A bit dissapointing, considering I was told 11.

That aside, I am extremely pleased with this game. The story was somewhat convincing and engaging, though it felt as though plenty were left out, though this may be due to the first person limited perspective. I would love to learn more about the mechanics of the suit, the Ceph, and many other factors that I wont spoil for the populous.

In terms of graphics, I must say I was blown away (PC gamer here), even sans DX11. I ran it on "Extreme" spec all the way through, with very little framerate dip.

Ill be honest, glitches galore. There were some broken animations (dropping detached turret), sometimes the AI failed to act even though I was staring them in the face (mostly human), I sometimes got stuck in the weapon customization screen without any text or prompts, and there were times where I couldnt perform a stealth kill or melee at all. Definitely needs a bit of patching, but Ill let it go as it was released just today.

I havent tried multi yet because I couldnt log in due to server stress earlier, but that will be for another time.

Closing statement: I cant wait for Crysis 3 :D

(1) It basically doesn't matter if the game is built on DX9 or DX11. The *only* graphical effect you might get with DX11 is tessellation, which isn't very important and would have very little effect on anything. The idea that DX11 is some magical foundation is a terrible misconception that seems to be common around these parts.

(2) I'm also extremely impressed with the campaign. I wish it was longer, but I wish a lot of things were true. That doesn't change the fact that what we did get is really, really, really good.

(3) The glitches (plus various other... aspects of the PC version) make me quite confident Crysis 2 was unfortunately rushed to release.

(4) Crytek should have paid more attention to what Valve did with storytelling in Half-Life 2. They could have presented more information that way.

(5) I hope we get something anologous to Warhead between Crysis 2 and 3!

I found myself missing Valve's level design during the final level, when I would regularly go down what I thought were paths but were instead dead ends or death falls. :(

I'm getting close to the end and I have to agree with most of what the OP said. Great graphics, half-decent storyline, quirky AI, tons of glitches (most minor, some major like the melee thing), overall very very enjoyable. Can't wait to play through again on a higher difficulty and explore to pick up all the unlockable things I missed.

As an aside...anyone remember years ago, before day-zero patches, games would be released without so many bugs? It seems nowadays it's the standard to get the product out the door asap and then complete the QA at a later date. You couldn't do that **** with SNES cartridges :)

Anyway, back to playing. It is terribly difficult to rip myself away from this game.

SNES, c64 even atari st and amiga games where incomparably simpler , no wonder we had no bugs then, dont see to many bugs on IOS (iphone) games either and thats still more complex

i wonder how this will play out in the future when games are so complex as todays game compares to SNES game, will there be ever software that is not full of bugs...how will those bugs look like in a real-like/life-like virtual world projected directly in to your brain... i see major issues coming ;)

Just finished it myself.. Great game. I was a little disapointed with how short it was, but I agree that the graphics more than made up for it.

I had three major glitches. First helicopter I took out blew up and the wreckage just hung in the air. The other two were on the Bridge level near the end. Once I glitched through the bridge floor and fell to my death. And the heavy Cephs kept disapearing/warping.

There were a few very minor glitches such as a ceph just turning in circles or running into a wall and continuing to just attempt to walk through it.

All I can say is, BRING ON CRYSIS 3!! I think they definitely left the story open for it.

Oh, don't worry, no franchise started in the last 7 years will ever have a game that doesn't end in a bloody cliffhanger.

As for the OP, rofl. We've got to give mad props to Nathan Camarillo for being a very convincing liar, though.

That would be good. Let's just hope that if they make such a game, that they make an actual good story this time instead of the incredibly unbelievable, incorrect mess that was the plot of Warhead.

I've been seeing a lot of notes about the story perhaps not being "complete". That's not necessarily true. For one, not all of the story is spoon fed to you. You're gonna have to make certain links yourself. For two, there is additional content relating to the story around levels. The emails, for example. Look for those. And in addition to that, a lot of story is happening "under the table" sort of. Radio shows through radios that have been left on. Bits and pieces of information on TVs that have been left on. Maybe some posters. There's a lot going on, if you know what to look for.

Don't expect this game to spoon feed you with every piece of the story.

I found the backgrounds, well painted. A little too painted. Compared to the first one I can only give it say 2 to 3 stars out of 5. 2 stars because the Multiplayer is messed up so bad. First game was a 4 starer.

I am on dual video cards and the extreme setting and it is incredible noticeable where the "background and foreground ghosts" appear. That is when the background lays flat, with a white coating, and well...looks painted. Not that the drawings are not sharp looking, it just doesn't seem as realistic or a neat effect that I would expect.

Another example of this is if you are looking at an area and see a series of rocks and debris falling off of a building. It looks almost cartoon look and well...just not right.

The people are terrible. Same sick people over and over again and Ghould looks like something left over from a marionette show. A big puppet in other words. Plain, dull and stiff looking. Moves as if made of wood. If I wanted marionettes I could watch some episodes of Captain Scarlett or the Thunderbirds. The soldiers are good but that is a standard by todays game novelties.

The story is typical 'modern' sci-fi. Nothing out of the ordinary.

There was one scene where the building I was in shook really good after being attacked by two missiles. That was a good scene. The rest is really plain faced and drawn.

You have to understand, I am the kind of person that can not stand what I call "The Liquid Werewolves" in the cinemas. It erks me and well...is unpleasant.

I think it is worth a play though. I just find the scenery...drawings. And that disappointed me by todays standards.

For a noob on veteran yes. for a sniper class, maybe. for a run and gun type of dude like me on veteran, more like 30 hours as i constantly get killed.

"Average". Not specific game-style. "Average". I.e. using every opportunity without focusing on any particular style. On Medium.

1. I'm playing the PS3 version and IMO, it' definitely the best looking game on PS3, better than Uncharted 2 which was the best looking game on PS3 before this game came out. Framerate is silku smoth too.

2. Yes, there are some glitches, e.g the CELL soldiers stuck in the cornore or just stare at me.
And I couldn't stealthkill them sometimes.
