I Just Bought Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics

Post » Thu Feb 03, 2011 3:42 pm

So I'm a big Fallout 3 fan and I just bought the Fallout Trilogy because I heard many good things about it and I want some back story knowledge before I dive into New Vegas. But I heard that some people get stuck at places because they didn't put enough points into a certain skill or something like that. I was wondering if some original fallout fanatics (like Styles :disguise: ) could give me some tips for what do do on Fallout 1 and 2 (I'll do Tactics after new vegas). I'll probably do Fallout 1 first and rip through that story to get to number two. But like I said if there's a certain skill or S.P.E.C.I.A.L. I should rise in the beginning let me know. Or any other tips in general. :fallout:

Save save and did I say save, It comes with 10 slots for saved games I set up a base save slot for major events, 2-3 qs slots for every time I travel/about to enter combat/finish combat ect. And a save for each level I go up, I set up random saves so I can go back if I mess up. That said I say the best thing I can say is remember to have fun, and never give an companion a smg unless u have a death wish.

Also read the manuals I have the originals so I don’t know if they will be the same but they came with some great cooking recipes ;_) and great tips on the interface.
PS the games are from my day ie the 1990s so look past the graphics and read the story (make sure you have the text displayed in the lower left screen instead of the min map, the text descriptions can be priceless plus tell u what’s going on in combat)

As far as Special goes it depends on what kind of character you want to play but I will say they have more impact then FO3, especial Charisma, again I would say Int is important as well as Agility, action points you get = more is better in the turn based combat in my opinion (I go with 8-9 Agility for the action points) again if you don’t mind spoilers the vault has all the information needed.

Last tip when fighting use hit and run tatics, bad guys, spend aps on movement moving away from bad guys with strong melee > then taking more melee hits/ or unspent bouns to ac. in fact in combat spend aps unspent aps are wasted period.

Thanks a lot man. This helps a lot. :goodjob: I will definitely look into the story I heard that's one of the best parts of the game. I wouldn't be buying this game if I couldn't look past the graphics lol.

With Fallout 1 & 2, I usually up my Strength, Perception and especially my Agility as for skills Small Guns, Doctor and Lock-pick serve me well. I usually lower Charisma and Intelligence and use them towards other S.P.E.C.I.A.L.s a spot of Endurance and luck.

Plan your character, look at the perks and consider which you might like/need. Make sure your stats allow you to have them.

Dont go guns blazing into every situation, you may miss interesting things. Using your brain will often net you easier/better rewards than shooting everything.

Talk to everyone, about everything.

Make sure you read the text box when it updates, its very useful. If you dont, i can guarantee you will be back here asking questions like
Spoiler
how do i get through the rubble in Vault 15?

There is a lot to do in every major location, dont assume that there isnt just because no one runs up to you the second you enter town, and lets you discuss "The Bomb" :P

Agreed, first time round I failed to speak to a particular person about a particular piece of dialogue, proceeded somewhere else and went in guns blazing and missed out on a load of benefical items that really would have helped me out with a particular area. Only on the second play thru I realised Jeez I'm glad I spoke to that guy :)

Although there (Thankfully) aren't classes in Fallout, it can be easier to create your initial characters with one of the four core "roles" in mind: Combat Boy, Speech Boy, Stealth boy and Science Boy.

For your first character, Combat is the way to go as its the easiest to play (even if the combat route is harder in some places). Take a couple of combat skills (Make sure at least 1 is Small Guns, Unarmed, melee or throwing {Small Guns is my top recommendation, followed by Melee}, as Big Guns and Energy weapons are late in game), STR of at least 6 (Higher if you go the melee route), a few points in Perception if you go the Small Guns route, and the remainder in Agility and Intelligence.

Once you've gotten at least part way through, you'll have more of an appreciation of how things work and may want to start a new game with a different character type based on what you've learned.

If you want companions covering your back then raise charisma up, every two points let's you get a follower. Dogmeat is free! :) In fallout 1 you can level up all the way to level 21 i think, and in fallout 2 all the way up to 99. Every 3 levels you get perks so choose them wisely cuz leveling up isn't as easy as in fallout 3 ma friend. Have fun!! :nuke:

EDIT: Also, Agility is really important in combat. I usually get Agility all the way up to 9 or 10 to have more APs to attack your enemies with. Some people get frustrated cuz they can only attack once per turn, so i recommend that you put 8 - 10 points in AG.
