So I just bought FortressCraft

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:29 am

Overall, I am not impressed. The best thing I can say about this game are the graphics, the graphics options and the awesome textures.

The world is limited by the Xbox's hardware and is very small compared to a Minecraft world.

Microsoft cut down the multiplayer max from 32 to 8. They also changed the price from $1 to $3.

There is NO WATER except the starting point.

Of course it is still early in development but at this stage I still prefer Minecraft.

Well, for a game who's entire concept is "Let's rip off minecraft", with a development team comprised entirely out of douchebags, I'm really not surprised.

I bought it also. I just found it to be.....cheesy?

I didn't even like the way that the world loads itself.

I know its early in development, but I'm probably not going to waste any more M$ points on future installments of this game.

Wow water only in the spawn point? I saw a video when the guy was using console commands but it just looks like a sub par minecraft with good graphics.

Hardly surprising. Wasn't everyone defending it a few weeks ago?

Trying to rip off Notch is sad.

I haven't heard much about this project except for its obvious Minecraft 'inspiration'. What's the problem with their attitude?

This would go too much into out-of-forum comments, but just look for them on the Minecraft board and interviews on YouTube. Getting a known self-important Box clan leader for their PR wasn't really the smartest choice if they wanted to appear as a serious business.

And consider that this is what he's posting on his youtube account. Making a video takes preparation and forethought. In places where such preparation is unnecessary, well, I think linking to any of it would be highly inappropriate, but I'm sure you get the idea from the video above. The guy is a jerk.

So is this fortresscraft a arcade game or can I buy a physical copy at a store? I haven't turned on my 360 in over a month so I don't know.

He seems like a fine, upstanding gentleman. I would purchase real estate from him.

I wasn't so much defending the game itself; rather pointing out the hypocrisy of people saying it ripped off Minecraft, when Minecraft ripped off Infiniminer.

Ha ripped off? Sure minecraft took elements from infiniminer. if I remember correctly infiniminer was a team base game where you built a base with square blocks and there was something to do with points.
oh wait here is an article about it from the wiki

Infiniminer is the game Minecraft was originally based upon. It was developed by Zachtronics Industries, and released in steps of incremental updates during April–May 2009. It quickly garnered a following on message boards around the internet, and eventually inspired Notch to start working on Minecraft. Like Minecraft, Infiniminer is a block-based digging/building game. It was originally intended to be played as a team-based competitive game, where the goal is to locate and excavate precious metals, and bring your findings to the surface to earn points for your team. However, as the game gained popularity, players decided it was much more fun to build things than to compete for points. Zachtronics discontinued development of the game less than a month after its first release. The source code was made public, spawning a handful of mods and spin-offs, but the game eventually faded into obscurity as the more polished Minecraft was announced.

Now here is a description of minecraft

Minecraft is a sandbox construction game, inspired by Infiniminer, and created by Markus Persson, the founder of Mojang AB. The game involves players creating and destroying various types of blocks in a three dimensional environment. The player takes an avatar that can destroy or create blocks, forming fantastic structures, creations and artwork across the various multiplayer servers in multiple game modes.

Sure notch took the idea of the blocks being cubes and the mining part, but the purpose of each game is radically different and what you can do is completely different. Where FortressCraft is practically a bad clone of Minecraft. There is a difference between ripping off(using some ideas) and practically make a very sub par clone.

Sweet a green genie guy ! Anyhow I don't think it is good publicity to call major media outlets in the gaming industry aka machinma a bunch of bad words will help your game sell. I am not sure what the guy is thinking.

He's not, he's just one of those people who see somebody get successful from a genuinely good idea and then tries to copy it in hopes to sell a bunch and get money, this guy is also apparently a bit on the idiot side....

Not really, they both have similar basic ideas (Let's do lego... but on a computer!), but the core gameplay is completely different. If minecraft is a ripoff of infiniminer, then oblivion is a ripoff of wolfenstein.

As already stated, that guy was known before as one of the most self-important clan leaders on the Box, ever. He even has a page on the dramatic encyclopedia, and you need to stay a major Mediterranean pocket bread to stay there.

So for someone who has never played minecraft and thus has nothing to compare Fortresscraft to (like myself) is the game still a decent sandbox construction game?

I would say so. Right now it is equivalent with Minecrafts' creative mode. Each chapter will introduce more stuff to do at $3 a pop. If you have a decent computer you'd be better off buying Minecraft as FortressCraft will cost more money in the long run. If you only game on Xbox then you might want to check out the trial version before buying it.

Funny thing is, you don't need a decent computer to run Minecraft. It runs fine on my school's pcs and they're crap.

No point in buying FortressCraft if you have a computer.
