I get out of Vault 101 then can't really do anything, would it be better to go straight down the main quest first then comeback and donathensidequests in an area?

It seems that I get too caught up in side quests, especially The Wasteland Survival Guide quests.

Also I can say this, Fallout 3 is a lot harder than New Vegas.
