I just completed Crysis Warhead on Delta

Post » Sun Oct 31, 2010 11:12 am

and after that, I returned to Crysis 2 and I gotta say that it doesn't feel like Crysis or Crysis Warhead at all.
The maps on Crysis 2 felt very tiny and linear and almost gave a claustrophobic feeling after playing Warhead. There were really tens of ways completing Warhead because the maps were huge and had boats, vehicles and lots of enemies on them while in C2 it felt like you were forced to complete the game always the same way, by moving through those narrow maps.

The graphics were overall better in Warhead(not going to all details here)
and you could really mess around with the koreans.

and the most important thing: the nanosuit.
Crysis 2 is supposed to have the improved version of Nanosuit. So why the hell does a single punch with strength mode(that has actually been removed) take all my energy while it took 10% of the suit power in nanosuit 1 and why the hell does the maximum speed feel three times as slow as with it's predecessor.
The movement felt overall clunky and not nearly as "ninja like" as it did in Crysis 1 and the prone was removed.

Crysis 2 had no destruction whatsoever except the scripted events(like that wall on the map that I can't recall)
while in Crysis you could pretty much destroy everything (punch through walls and roofs, shoot down trees, blow up buildings etc.

You just had these great moments in Crysis where you just had taken out a whole village and left tens of korean bodies behind you and you just had that moment of peace that you could just look at the sunset, see the crabs crawling on the beach and birds flying over the sky as the day turned into a night.

That being said I think that everyone that were capable of playing these amazing games fluently knows what I'm talking about. Crysis 2 has so small glimpse of the game that it used to be.

For anyone who has a gaming pc or is planning to buy/build and would like to have really amazing gaming experience should definately buy Crysis and Crysis Warhead. They are honestly two of the best games that I have ever played.

Crysis is nowadays 15$ at Steam
and Crysis Warhead is 10$

Warhead also has a multiplayer which has all size maps with vehicles such as choppers, vtols(future planes), cars, tanks, light tanks etc... and a huge variety of weapons from rpgs and orginary assault rifles to NUCLEAR weapons. :) and different playercounts: from small fights like 6 v 6 or 12 v 12 to bigger like 16v16 and even 32v32 (:
If you are lucky enough and haven't tried this game yet, you def should because it will blow your mind.

Crysis 2 isn't exactly bad, but it's something so small compared to Crysis 1.
Besides... in C1 the guy you play actually talks. In my opinion the ending scene was cooler in C2 than in Crysis or Warhead but it's the gameplay that counts.

Crysis 1 and Warhead are superior games - both graphically and through functionality. Crysis 2 has been toned down to be used with the consoles; it's a fact. We just have to deal with it.

That's true. Thanks for taking time to read my wall of text, I just hope that we get to see more games like the original Crysis and Warhead someday in the future. They were just brilliant.

C1 still have some nice things, like whole the Stealth Kill mechanics (something I'm really missing in C1) but... that's basically all. In any other thing the prequel of this game feels like it's sequel - at least technologically.

Simplest example: The Cell vehicles.
In Crysis 2 they stand still through almost entire game, and have guy shooting on top, if you enter it, you can drive, you can also destroy wheels making it go very slowly.
In Crysis 1 it'd drive through maps on patrols, having 3 people onboard which would exit the vehicle and try to hunt you down or they would try to drive over you for instant death while the guy on top would shoot even if the thing is driving. If it'd turn and you'd shoot off it's wheel - it'd be possible for vehicle to make a beautiful loop till crash. While riding it you'd be able to change seats, or even take control over HMG (I don't get why you can't do this in C2), and there would be more than one seat. You'd also feel every wheel lost, while bullet in a fuel tank would be something you'd like to avoid.
This game even though it was only an FPS got better vehicle physics than most of console racing games!

So.... erm... what the heck happen to vehicles in this game? And everything else? It was dumbed-down beyond reason to the Console level.
Thank you XboX and PS3 players!

Very true, but it was Crytek who actually made the decision. Console version would have been less work for them and would have given more $. It's just really disappointing that they decided to make this decision, back then when I finished Crysis, I just dreamed how Crysis 2 would be. I never would have belived that it would just go back in terms of gameplay and tech. It's been 4 years, and playing Crysis 2 feels like I would have gone 4 years back in time before Crysis was even made.

This is an excellent post for those forum members who continue to delude themselves into believing that Crysis 2 is in any way superior to Crysis or Warhead. You go back to Warhead or Crysis, and it's just a whole 'nother world. It actually is a -world-, whereas Crysis 2 is just a series of rooms and hallways. I mean, C2 is a good game in it's own right, but it sure as hell has nothing to do with Crysis or Warhead. Crytek should'a just labelled this a spin-off, given it to consoles, and continued work on an actual PC game in the Crysis universe.

I agree, they should have just kept the way they were going with the first Crysis and create a spin-off version for the consoles because what they did with Crysis/Warhead was pure art.

Nah - we all know it wouldn't gonna happen - Being a sequel of a stat-of-art game that for past years was used as ultimate PC GPU benchmark brings A LOT of attention from anyone who ever heard of this game (and really many people did, I guess only those who did not are total consolers looking nowhere outside their world). Making a spin-off wouldn't bring even half of attention especially cause such spin-offs are made even for cellphones these days.... only noone tries to sell cellphone games ported on a PC, to keep the anology.

*goes back into corner enjoying how truthful the Cell Vehicle example was*

If you'll get a decent rig, you should definately get both Crysis and Crysis Warhead. They are not something that you would want to miss. Also if you decide to give them a try, you should do it with the hardest difficulty, it will change the way you play and the way enemies react when they see you. That way you really need to use all of the suit abilities inorder to stay alive.

Actually I much prefered Crysis2's quick paced rollercoaster ride than walking around a **** jungle staring at sand and water for hours.

The Nanosuit just seems to flow better with Crysis2 and you do actually feel like its all down to you with the type of missions you do.

So you prefer derivative console crap, being spoon-fed by your Nano-suit at every encounter, and inferior graphics/options/attention to detail. Good for you?

I actually enjoyed C2's gameplay...It was fun.

But I have to say that C1 was definitely a more complete game. it seems like Crytek spent less time on C2....maybe Crytek is planning to start putting out games as fast as CoD, MoH, or Halo. Unfortunately more Crysis appears to mean less quality...kind of sad :(

I still hope for a DX10-DX11 Patch...But I Finally Have Come To Realize That The Patch May Not Come :(

Well, I have to admit that I enjoyed C2 as well, as a momentary distraction. It's not a game that will stand the test of time like its predecessors, that's for damn sure, but it's not without charm.

I just hate it when scrubs talks trash about Crysis (98% of the time because his PC chokes on it). Just because you can't run Crysis maxed out, doesn't make Crysis 2 a better game. Sorry.
