Is it just me, or does everyone have to login 40 times a day

Post » Mon May 16, 2011 11:22 pm

Ever since the last forum change, I find that I'm logging in several times an hour, sometimes several times in 20 minutes.

Is this the same for everyone(?), and is this temporary, or become a new fact of membership?

Must be a nightmare for moderators.

What I don't understand (and the main reason I bring it up), is that the forum will log you out mid post edit, sometimes after only seconds have passed.

I get the occasional log in problem, not as often as you.
I'm on a wireless conection, and sometimes lose connection.

Hate to ask as you're more tech savy than me, but is it due to your privacy and security settings.

Could be  (but I don't see it)

For a while I ran locked down with the sight, but now I've dropped it to pretty lax.
All the javascript is annoying though.

I've been logged out occasionally, but no more than once a day. And not every day. May just be due to my internet connection shutting itself down at midnight sometimes :D

Its interesting then. (Maybe its regional?) I use Firefox (and it usually logs in on it's own), but it often occurs that I might edit a word (like their & there), only to be logged out before saving the change. The page just behaves as though the button does nothing (and saves nothing); other times (even stranger), the post will save, but I'll be logged out before the refresh. Also, very often I will open my profile, click the "posts" tab, and be told that I'm not authorized... but you have to be logged in to look at your profile.

It sometimes logs me off if I try to edit my post on a page after being on it for a while without doing anything, but other than that I don't remember when it last logged me off. Maybe the time I was 2 weeks away or something...

It only logs me out after I use CCleaner, for obvious reasons. I use FireFox as well, but I'm not as active as most people. I usually just read.

If your IP is different than the last time you logged in, your cookie wont do you any good. You just have an IP that changes. This forum handles login cookies horribly, and it's incredibly annoying, and I can't imagine it really adds a lot of security. My IP at home is static for months, but every time I go to school, I have to login again, and every time I come home after logging in at school, I have to log in again. If you renew your IP, you'd have to log in again on the same computer.

Maybe once or twice a week for me. There have been a couple occasions that I've been logged out several times in the same day, but that doesn't happen very often.

If I log in during the a day, it's usually just once after the 2:30am - 2:40am EST period when the forum is down.

Sometimes I need to log in more, but that's rare and usually seem to happen if I have the forum up in a brower tab for a longer period of time without doing anything, just forum idling. But I'm not 100% certain about that, but that seems to be the case.

This makes sense. I've had that happen to me as well, If I open another tab then come back here after awhile I've noticed that I have been logged out. It's not often this happens, but is a bit annoying at times.

I have the same problem. I'm logged out of this site even though it's cached/cookied almost everytime I venture away, and I have "always keep me logged in" checked.
It's really..really..annoying.

I presume when the forum is down it's 8.30am in the UK. Thanks for telling me, that had me confused to no end on why it wouldn't work.

It's the moderators.

Every once in a while they pick a member or group of members and periodically kick them off, repeatedly, to entertain themselves on slow days.
Well, the moderators and the corporations, maaann.

I'll get logged out 3 to 5 times a week probably on average, not counting logging in on a different computer/browser. Either from expired tokens or the forum maintenance, in total I get kicked out about 3-5 times a week.

If your IP is different than the last time you logged in, your cookie wont do you any good. You just have an IP that changes. This forum handles login cookies horribly, and it's incredibly annoying, and I can't imagine it really adds a lot of security. If you renew your IP, you'd have to log in again on the same computer.

It's not IP, it's just if you log in under any different circumstances. If you log in with one browser, even if you log in with a different browser on the same computer, it'll invalidate your cookie in the other browser.

If I log in during the a day, it's usually just once after the 2:30am - 2:40am EST period when the forum is down.

That's because this forum has horrible token handling and can't deal with expired authentication tokens in even a half-decent way.

Spend too much time editing a post? Your authentication token expires and you are sometimes logged out. Spend too much time idle? your authentication token expires and you are sometimes logged out.

Heh, I wasn't going to post that, but .................... perhaps we are trying to say something? :D

Being randomly logged out is not something I suffer from, I can go for days without having to re-log in.
