Just Downloaded..won't open

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 6:05 am

Hi.

I just downloaded Fallout 4 from Steam and when I went to launch it for the first time, I get asked if Steam can make changes to my computer. I say yes. Then the Fallout 4 menu pops up and when I hit play I get asked if Fallout 4.exe can make changes to my computer. I say yes and nothing happens other then it taking me back to the menu again.I have done this at least 4 times now and still nothing happens and I cannot play.

Any suggestions?

what anti-virus software are you using?

what OS are you running?

have you tried running the game in Administrator mode?

okay, try this..

1) Open up Steam

2), right click FO4

3) press properties

4) press the local files tab

5) press borwse local files

this should open up the games directory

6) there should be a file in there you need to find.. now, I don't own FO4 as of now (just saw this thread on the newest threads notifier, so i thought i'd drop in), so I don't know the exact name of the file.. might just be Fallout 4, but more likely it would be called FO4.exe (its gonna be an exe file anyways)

7) right click it

8) press "Run as Administrator"

did that launch it?

Thanks for the suggestion. I had read something similar to what you suggested and when I do that I have no file that ends in .exe. There are a bunch ending in .dll The only thing that says Fallout 4 is a folder that takes me to Fallout4prefs. The only time I have seen anything ending in .exe, is fallout4launcher.exe after I press play and it asks me if that file can make changes to my computer. It also says its an unknown publisher which I thought was kinda weird but as I said when I hit yes the launch menu just comes up again and if I click play nothing happens. I can click on the other buttons (options, support and exit) they all work fine. When I tried what you suggested and run it as an administrator it will tell me its already running if I have already tried to open it. When I tried to run it as an administrator with the game closed, it just takes me to the launch screen again and nothing happens. Don't know if this matters but steam says I've played 4 minutes already which obviously I haven't.

Where is Steam installed to? By default it will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam. The default Steam Library is inside that directory.

If you installed everything as default Fallout4.exe is found at:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Fallout4.exe

Note: By default Windows Explorer hides the extension (e.g. '.exe') of known file types, so it may show as simply Fallout4 (in the previous file path).

Thank you for your help. I had 7 files that failed to verify and when they downloaded again I was able to launch my game. I knew I could trust a fellow Canadian with a rhyming username. I truly appreciate it.
